LG CEO says about half of its new smartphones will run Android
Well, here's a tiny mystery of sorts that's emerged amidst all the hubbub of CES. As the Korea Herald reports, LG CEO Nam Yong reportedly said yesterday that while LG will have smart phones running on Windows Mobile, "about 50 percent of our smart phone models will run on Android." Now, that's not so hard to believe considering the number of LG Android phones we've already seen or heard about, but it is fairly surprising in light of the deal LG and Microsoft announced back at MWC last year, which supposedly made Windows Mobile LG's "primary smartphone OS." Obviously, something doesn't quite add up here, unless by "about half," LG actually means "less than half" -- which seems to be a distinct possibility.

Android excites me. its still not quite to the point where i want to pick it up, but the adoption has been massive, which means it's past failure. its only going to get better from here.
multi touch and im sold. i'm tired of iTunes and all of the restrictions, im tired of apple deciding what i can do or what i cant do on my device. im ready to make the switch. hurry up google.
@SmilinGoat
First great migration = iPhone.
Second great migration = Android
Third great migration = ???
Profit!
@SmilinGoat
My thoughts exactly. I'm looking for the Android phone that will make
me replace my iPhone. Droid and N1 were tempting, but I'm actually
satisfied with the service AT&T provides me in my area.
@dand
No one cares.
@Goona Yeah i hate anyone who moans they have an iphone
@mark29
you pay a premium to have one, you expect to get premium service. when certain things fall short it's kind of glaring. you want it fixed.
the biggest issue i have with the iPhone is not the phone itself. its a brilliant little device and has great software and features. but iTunes, that really hurts it for me. when my motherboard fried and took my HDD with it, i had to get a new comp. all my music was lost, but is still on my iPhone, but its impossible to take it from the iPhone to the new computer. so i haven't updated the phone in 3 months. a problem i didnt have with my last MP3 player (zune80)
@SmilinGoat " im tired of apple deciding what i can do or what i cant do on my device." Thankfully Google is here to save us from ultra-controlling corporate entities hellbent on profit.
@Joey the Squid
not sure if your being sarcastic, but they are far less controlling than other OS's in the phone market. i can appreciate that.
@Goona Banned from macrumors so you thought you'd come troll the engadet comments?
http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=291039
Tut tut.... Just to cheer you up, plenty of Nexus One discussion on the boards lately. Pity you weren't there to troll. :(
@ChazClout
Damn dude get off my nuts and stop following me everywhere.
@Goona
Wow, you were too much of a rabid Apple fanboy for even Mac Rumors. I didn't even think that was possible. How soon do you think Engadget is going to ban you? I'm going with a week.
@Goona
I've been a member here longer than you silly! You must have followed me. ;)
@Dafrety
Yeah like I give a damn if I was banned. Bloody goat.
@ChazClout
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr ok.
Wow, thats pretty big
@steakman
That's what she said!
@steakman
fuck LG
That phone looks sexy.
Also, CES looks like it's been all about Android, damn...everything is running Android inside of it.
WOW - tha looks like some art deco hunk of junk from last century. Is it too hard for LG to make a nice slim large screen phone like the iphone, nexus, HD2 or the TG01?
▲ndroid rules. IT WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD AND GOOGLE WILL KILL THE NON-BELIEVERS!!!

So, would 4 out of 10 make you happy?
*cough* Bezel! *cough*
@Matej Bajan
Not enough I know, MORE BEZEL!
@Matej Bajan
Yes, I know there seems to be a big bezel, but this is only on the top and bottom. You have to remember, most LCD makers tend to make logically sized screens that will fit into a majority of devices, if they make one really long screen to fill the top and bottom (a la BL40), the screen would only be made and sold for one device (less profit). These top and bottom bezels occur on almost every touchscreen phone (a la iPhone, even). I only complain about bezel when it is left to right, not top to bottom. The bezel is where phone makers can get creative with design and have some originality in their lineups.
@Matej Bajan DUDE - you try shoving a tiny screen into an old toaster and see how much bezel you have - sheesh - some people are never happy.
@boe
.............Bezel!!!!...........
/s
@Matej Bajan I hope that is a super sensitive screen. Looks nice though.
Read: It costs us money to do R&D for our own OS, so why not just use a free one for most of our stuff.
Quite smart actually.
@pika2000
Yeah, it's great. Competition, R&D, Innovation, Invention. All those benefits with one swift decision. I don't know why all of the manufacturers don't just use Android or Windows Mobile or OSX or Symbian. Who needs all that distracting and obnoxious variety?
@pika2000
That is the genius behind Android!
@pika2000
indeed, it is a smart way of doing business. The flipside is that you take on any liability from your partner's products. As things more complicated, they tend to outsource many of their components, as it becomes cost prohibitive and time consuming to develop everything in-house. By taking from companies who specialize in certain things, you can greatly speed up your product development and time-to-market.
Car manufacturers have been doing it for years. Of course, you've also seen the flipside I mentioned - recalls that happen not because of the actual car manufacturer's incompetency, but some design flaw on a part they purchased from one of their suppliers.
Who would make a phone that makes a face like that?
Or does no one else see the lower half looking distressed and cross-eyed in classic anime style? It's even got an ay-carumba hand to the side of its head...
@jd123 Lol, I see it.
@smilingoat. You can do a google search for various programs that can take your music from your iPhone and tranfer to pc. There are free ones too
I'm confused... so the guys at Engadget actually like physical keyboards?
@sonicyoof
Oh god, I replied to the wrong article... Next time I'll look at the tab I'm in before blindly posting.
