Motorola XT720 spreading Android, BLUR to South Korea?
Though its market share pales against the home teams, Motorola has maintained a continued presence in South Korea for some time -- and seeing how the company is going all-in with Android globally, it makes sense that they'd be launching it here, too. Enter the alleged XT720, a localized version of the XT701 that's seeing duty on China Unicom on the other side of the Yellow Sea. Rumor has it this will be coming to SK Telecom, but details are sketchy and conflicting: Mirae Asset Research says the phone will feature a 5 megapixel cam while the source of this picture here says it's 8; they're also quoting the screen as a 3.7-inch 480 x 640 unit, but clearly, it's going to be WVGA if the pic is legit. The research firm believes we'll see this launch next month which would likely make this the first high-end device out of Moto to feature BLUR; whether that's a good thing or not, though, is strictly a matter of personal opinion.

What's with the crooked right side?
@a dumb cat
I know they designed it like that, but still, wtf?
@a dumb cat
An ergonomic touch maybe? IDK, I wondered the same thing.
I think the kink on the right has some potential. Looks like a good spot for a thumb or a middle finger if you're using your left hand. Maybe some added grip?
Hard to say with out holding it. Unless you're an insta-hater, then of course it looks like shit. wtg.
@a dumb cat HDMI out is right there.
@BigJayDogg3 Actually xt720 is like a baby bro of xt710 which has 2 brothers reaching china as well. So at least, we could be sure that android is reaching asia now. Details of the trio: http://bit.ly/motorola-xt710-rest-of-the-gang
BLUR is going to be so useless there unless it supports cyworld. No one in korea uses facebook or Twitter.
@ai4281
I agree, but I would love to see this come to Korea for my own sake. I am so sick and tired of Korean dumbphones. I don't need DMB (I really cannot stand Korean broadcast television. Maudlin, slapstick, or nationalistic: pick your poison), and Cyworld/Daum/Naver are navigational nightmares. Korean sites seem to be stuck in Yahoo! circa 2000--trying to fit every bit of information possible onto a single page. Let's just hope that they don't cripple the ability to download apps or price it prohibitively.
Besides, I'm sure there must be at least a handful of Koreans who feel similarly. I haven't met any yet, but.. crossing my fingers.
@Matthew
I know right. You go to most Korean sites and you have to shield your eyes or else you may go into epileptic seizure because of all the flickering, blinking ads. It's like downtown in most Asian metropolis, with neon signs.
I remember the episode of the Simpsons where the whole family goes into epileptic seizures when they watch some Asian channel...
I really, really don't like Blur. Like I'd erase it and put stock Android 2.1 in a heartbeat.
@TareG
What about BLUR don't you like?
@BigJayDogg3 Damon Albarn is up his arse now. Oh wait, wrong blur.
Add: It also seems to have satellite DMB tv on it as well.
I thought the analog clock on the homescreen was a thing of the past for Android. I always thought they looked stupid on phones, but thats just me.
@Rick James
You do know that you can remove it and replace it with whatever you want, right? I took the clock off the moment I got my G1.
@Dafrety
I realize you can customize the background, but I guess I don't understand what demographic feels that this looks 'classy'.
This phone has 8 megpaixel camera & XENON Flash, YES FINALLY, the bump on the side is for when you are in camera mode it displays camera options

@surethom Finally a Xenon flash. I'm gonna throw My N82 out of the window very soon
@Cayman80 Same here,currently use samsung i8000 but still own a Nokia N82 & have to keep changing the sim card when i go out to party's & out at weekend, this will finally make me a one phone guy. Finally.
@surethom ahahahahah. That sounds familiar. i was going to buy a motorola milestone and keep my n82 without sim and use it as a digital camera but now there's a better solution. This phone is the answer to all my geek prayers. Hope this xt720 lands in Italy very soon
My dad has a $15 tracfone from motorola with 'crystal talk' (or whatever it's called) - and that is the clearest sounding phone I have ever heard in my life.
So... I'll check into some moto love.
These prices are nuts though. I don't understand why a little phone $500 when I can buy a general sedan computer for like $300 shipped.
Of course the phone comes with a screen - but still.
now, when will i get this phone?
More crappy Android phones.
@Goona. More crappy Android Phones?????? What, please explain why Android Crappy Phones, the hardware is 8 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, one of the best smartphone harware u will be able to buy, & Android is 100% open like Windows Mobile & the up coming Symbian Foundation but not the Closed Iphone, please explain what you dont live about this Android Phone??????
@Newwales Android is not an open project. Android is a closed source project with a related, incomplete pile of code. Android source code is tuned and patched for each hardware plateform. obscur, hidden in a multiple of branches in the source tree. Please don't call it "Open".
This would make it the first phone with Android to make it to Korea, officially supported by any carrier.
My Mytouch3G gets looks since no other phone in Korea has such features save for the recently debuted iPhone 3GS (not CDMA but GSM).
Hell, in Seoul (more or less), they have readers for your SIM Card and charges your mobile account for the stuff that you use your phone to pay for. Why can't we get something like that in the States, eh?
That IS a 8mega-pixel camera IF the back pic is not a fake pic.
I saw this camera is KODAK
