ASUS and Acer have made sure we'd never have a shortage of Ion nettops, but it appears Mouse Computer is sneaking through the cracks with its Lm-mini20. Unlike the company's
CD drive packing netbook, there isn't really much of note here. The 34800 yen ($376) version has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, 160GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and NVIDIA ION graphics. And you can configure the standing mini-desktop to your hearts content with a larger hard drive and more RAM. We can't exactly say we are waiting for this little guy to hit the U.S. market when we have the competent
ASUS Eee Box EB1501, but if you must have a Mouse Computer, at least for the jokes, you can hit the source link and order it up.
So they can fit mobile core 2 duos on laptops but they cant fit them on net tops?
@robindahoods:
OK OK OK... Let me get this straight...
Laptops can have C2D.
Desktops can have C2D.
Netbooks can have Atom.
Nettops can have Atom.
AND YOU EXPECT A NETTOP TO HAVE C2D NOW?!
Fay eel.
@Philip Han Well I build nettops with C2Ds all the time...
If a customer likes the idea of energy efficiency, and compactness, but doesn't want to be held back by an Atom I use a 1.8, 2.0. 2.2Ghz C2D mobile.
Ew, single core Atom.
Crawls out of what?
What do we need nettops for anyway? We installing computers in our kitchen cupboards now?
@Anticrawl look up XBMC.
That being said, this thing is overpriced for what is is when I can get the revo much cheaper.
@Anticrawl - actually yes.
I have a computer in my kitchen, and a mini one attached to each of my TVs in the house. That way you can browse the web on the couch, bust out some hulu, or stream video from your home server.
Atom 330/ION or higher is the way to go though to ensure that 1080P footage doesn't bog down the box.
@Ducman69
Ah see I don't really have a need for a nettop then. We have a TV in every house and a wireless network setup. I can just stream video to any TV from any one of our laptops/desktops or game consoles. I have thought of getting a nice all-in-one touchscreen PC for the kitchen though, but I can already surf the web on everything including my phone so the nettop thing sounds like overkill.
@Anticrawl - I tried the touchscreen idea, it sounds good in theory, but is horrible in execution. You'll be sitting there snacking away on a delicious sammich and then want to click on something... reaching your arm up all over to do that and holding your arm there is tiresome, and worse yet you end up with buttered finger smears.
We use the kitchen probably the most of any in the house though, as its the highest traffic area. I also personally find phone web browsing to be a bit much of a compromise w/ such a tiny screen and no real mouse keyboard.
@Ducman69
Yeah we spend the most time in the kitchen as well. Big ol' house and we spend most of it on an island bar in the kitchen. I had figured a touch screen would be iffy with food fingers but most of the time we are in the kitchen it is just doing busy work, talking, surfing, baking, etc. I love browsing on my Droid, it is amazingly fast on my network and I can type fairly fast with the physical keyboard. I still figure a touch pc would be easier to keep after than worrying about cleaning a keyboard and mouse people have been using with god knows what on their hands. I suppose I could get one of those silicon waterproof keybaords though.. hrmm.
@Anticrawl
I have an Aspire Revo 3610 with Atom 330/ION right next to my TV. It plays back 1080p smoothly. I use Windows 7 media center and it's a pretty good media player.
Most of my media is not in physical disks, DVDs are in ISO files for example. This is the perfect solution for me.
I even have a plugin to play back shoutcast readio streams (with MC)
I really like the form factor, industrial design, and ION chip on this computer. Small and understated. This + a black Trackpoint or happy hacking keyboard and a black 15 inch monitor would make a great desktop for my tiny apartment.
Dell Zino HD. Nuff said. But I'll say more anyways: Higher performance, lower price.
@Nitesh - I bought two of the Dell Zino HDs. With their discount price listed on slickdeals and 20% Bing cashback, it was an AMAZING deal.
They are overpriced right now though, and they removed the bluray option!!!
Highly recommended once they hit the Dell outlet though, but be sure to get the faster processor and better video card. =)
Why do these cost more than netbooks of equivalent spec? They have neither an LCD nor a battery, and presumably have much less costly casing.
