When will you do a show here on the west coast???
Android. Multitouch. WTF.
@gitaroomaan Android supports multitouch, contrary to the misinformation that Engadget continues to spread.
Android simply doesn't _implement_ them in the UI. It's designed for 1-handed operation.
If Android didn't support multitouch (like Engadget and Apple would like you to believe), then multitouch-supporting software like the Dolphin Browser wouldn't be able to implement it. Yet it does.
Josh,
Please, ask these Google people why they keep lying and avoiding the multi-touch situation.
Tell them to give you a straight fvcking answer.

@hondamx525
Stop double posting.
Too bad few if any actually care about pinch-to-zoom. IMO that's a gimmick. Others may disagree with that, but I never use it on my iPhone, so W/E.
Multi touch is FAR more useful in the keyboard. So you can type faster easier.
The blindingly obvious multitouch question, but also why no UMA on the Nexus 1? And this leads to another, perhaps more interesting question, is there any tension between the software development arm and hardware developers when the software team sees Android functionality left out of hardware? You'd assume that would piss them off, a bit, to work on functionality and then have device manufacturers go and take it back out or disable it.
ASK HIM ABOUT WHY THERE IS NO REAL MULTI TOUCH!
Don't accept such a coy answer as "We'll look into it". Is it a patent brawl with Apple or just a secret handshake under the table? Or if Apple isn't even a factor, then what is the reason? There has to be an explanation for it. Push it out of him :)
Otherwise I'm just going to assume that Google will always take the backseat to Apple in the mobile development world.

Hammer away at him about MULTI TOUCH and don't take any bullshit for an answer, none of this " customers don't like it" , or "its more work" Otherwise they would not put it in the euro versions.
I mean be relentless in this

ugh, guys really?! i'll be in nyc at the end of the month. i was super hoping you'd have it then!
i'd agree w/the multitouch question. i'm also interested to hear how they will deal with the eventual platform fragmentation that they have going on with different versions being released within the same year. given their current rate of output we'll be on 3.whatever before my new droid will be anywhere close to being upgradeable. given the new ETFs i'm just curious at what point they'll be worried about screwing over their users.
Ask him what are they planning to do about the application market?
any desktop market app?
when is the next update coming?
are they gonna revamp the interface with more eye candy?
what about a desktop syncing app that hooks to amazon mp3, picasa, gmail, android market etc?
VOIP with Google Voice?
I wouldn't bother asking about multi touch, unless he's high or you can persuade him (torture)
the whole installing apps on sd card issue? when is the fix coming?
better music and video player? when?
Cool ! you should wait 1 more week though to present the iSlate :-)
What does he think about the recent touchscreen tests recently released where the Droid does horribly, Erid does ok, iphone awesomely. Are they looking into improving this?
Improve the Market some?
Enough about "multi-touch"! When most people say this they are actually talking about pinch-zoom and i'm about 90% sure its due to a patent from Apple in the US. Installing apps to SD card is a good question, as well as when/if Google Voice will get VOIP and push notifications (5 min wtf?). New music player (real video player with XVID support?). Another issue I noticed is when the phone is docked there is no landscape support for the incall screen, but thats kind of specific.
@garbagedick Actually, when I'm talking about it I'm mostly talking about the keyboard, FWIW. I could take or leave pinch to zoom (although it is more convenient than having to find a button, somewhere).
@mmaestro Multi-touch within the keyboard would be great. double tapping then using the zoom options is not as inconvenient as people say. If google ever does implement pinch-zoom in all of their programs, they will then just be labeled "copycats" anyways, so that's a losing battle right there.
Will there be a live stream?
If you're looking for questions, ask him whether the ADP1 handset will be seeing an Android 2.1 update.
Maybe ask him what Android 2.5 has in store. Or 3.0.
Ask them if they're ever going to improve the music player.
Purchase apps via a desktop web browser (ie log in to android website using google account, and queue downloads OTA onto the phone)
I don't even see what the point of talking to him is. He seemed willing to give less info than I'd be able to find in their press releases and his method of dodging questions felt extremely patronizing. Ballmer dodged a lot of questions as well but at least he did it in a way that didn't make it seem like everyone was stupid.
Yes. That's at least 40 minutes of you being able to pound him about multitouch!
Ask him when will the OHA live up to it's name and release unlocked cellphones to all carriers!
I've never been to an Engadget Show, and I will be in New York JUST for this weekend. anyone who's been before, how long did you have to wait for tickets?
Josh, make sure to really nail him with the questions. The cosy sit down you had at CES was pretty sickening, all he did was pour marketing bilge all over you.
Why doesn't it have Multitouch
Why can you still not install apps to external memory
Why doesn't it record 720P
Why did they waste the card-switcher on desktops instead of background apps
Why does the music player STILL suck
Can the Nx1 buttons be fixed by software
What the hell is the point of the scroll ball
Certainly not the most pressing of issues, most of them, but isn't that the point Boy Genius made in his article : Apple get the small stuff right?
Could it be that Mr Tseng can't say anything about multi-touch because if he does even suggest there might be patent issues, he might later be quoted in a lawsuit (in which he would presumably say there are no such claims to be made by Apple)? Just an idea...
This seems like a strange choice because you just posted a 20 minute interview with him:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/08/the-engadget-interview-erick-tseng-senior-product-manager-of-a/
@Eminemdrdre00 I think there's a lot we didn't get to.
@Joshua Topolsky Sounds good to me. I just hope you try 1 last time to get a multi-touch answer out of him!
@Joshua Topolsky Yeah. He really didn't have an answer about that multitouch. I mean WTF does it have something to do with Apple? Or did they just...idk...forget? Put the smackdown on this guy with the questions Josh.
When is there going to be an Engadget Show in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley area?
Please ask when we can expect to see a good Android phone (a superphone with fast processor and hardware acceleration) with a good hardware keyboard (Droid < G1, Nexus One = no keyboard).
Please don't ask about multitouch. He clearly can't say anything yet.
Engadget has questioned Google execs about a lack of multitouch in USA Droids and Nexus One's (without any real answer given), but I would like to know when Europe and the rest of the world will get full satellite navigation like the USA has with Android 2.
The ability to install apps on the full amount of storage space onboard and on the memory card is also something that the public wants and the ability to buy the apps with more payment options than only Google Checkout.
Maybe Google should also be making a list of minimum hardware requirements for Android 2.1 like WinMo 7 will have, to remain competitive and keep up to date.
do you guys sell out? i mean is it necessary to get there before 2p?
Josh,
Can please ask them to just give you an honest answer about multi-touch? Tell Erick Tseng that you owe it to your readers to get an honest answer. All Erick Tseng needs to say is that it is a patent issue and I will be satisfied. I just want to hear Google officially come out and say it. I want to tell you to bust his balls about the multi-touch question, but you are probably too nice a guy to do it.
@Steve Jobs Jr My god I have never agreed with a comment on the internet more than I do this one right now.
For those who have been before.. How early do you need to be there to get tickets? 2 hours before the 2pm time?
lets skip this multi-touch nonsense and find out about the Nexus Two!
@thenoseknowsall
With a keyboard!
Josh can u help me ask and see the nexus one in singapore got multitouch or not?
But guess he will answer dunno LMAO!
Will european units (with Vodafone,...) be "With Google" branded ?
(I think it is not the case for the Milestone -Droid-)
Who cares about multitouch, WHEN DO GOOGLE AND ANDROID BECOME SELF AWARE!!!! WE NEED TO PREPARE!!!
lol!
Good luck, Josh.
If we don't get a definitive Multitouch answer in 40 minutes, we never will!
Can you ask Sprint why they havent released their 6.5 update for the touch pro 2?
everyone else has it but sprint doesnt seem to care about its users
Everyone wants to hear about Android multitouch...
I want to hear about their recent response to China. Just sayin'.

And forgot the engadget article: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/12/google-to-stop-censoring-chinese-search-results-will-review-th/
