@TheRogueFFAngel That's literally the same background picture I'm running on my nexus one. Since it's mostly black my battery life is uber on the phone due to the AMOLED display. I can't get over how much longer the batter life lasts on this phone than on my G1.
Running CyanogenMod on an android phone, you can pretty much put any theme on an android phone. True though, nothing comes stock with a wow factor, but since when did anyone ship a phone with a wow factor?
@TheRogueFFAngel Who that follows phones with even the slightest bit of intelligence doesn't know that the Droid was the first phone that came shipped with Android 2.0 and the N1 came with 2.1?
And the interface looks exactly the same. The picture is showing the default 2.0 interface, no skinning done at all. Everything on that screen is stock. The icons haven't been changed, the little widget at the top is stock, the app drawer is stock.
So for you to come in and say that "Wow! That version of Android looks nice!" and then "The Droid/N1 interface is terrible, must be old versions" just shows you to be in total ignorance. Seriously, go educate yourself.
@TheRogueFFAngel The stock wallpaper that comes installed on Android never looks very good, and always seems to make it look cheaper. Changing that though actually makes the OS look quite up to date and nice.
@Flowah Well honestly though man. It's not REALLY his problem, it's more Google's problem. They just don't do a good job of showing pretty Android setup's. The 2.0 OS is quite pretty once you toss a nice background on it and customize it to your tastes as shown above. These things aren't obvious to a non-jailbroken iPhone user, since they don't have access to doing any of those things on their phone so when they see the stock blah Android setup, they feel they're stuck. It's a funny thing how primarily using Apple products makes you forget that personal power is a nice thing to have. Reminds me of people who can't grasp the concept of how multi-tasking might be useful on their phones even though it's now a mini-computer, yet they have computers that they multi-task on everyday.
@TheRogueFFAngel Have you never seen HTC's Sense UI? And there are now a sets of widgets that keep their look the same, really helps in making the OS look fluid rather then a stamp book hodge podge of widgets.
@avinash240 Customize? The only thing changed in the screenshot up there is some contact icons and the background. Everything else is totally default. The icons, the notification bar, the app drawer.
@Flowah I'm saying all the widget, the icons with peoples faces on it, and the background. That's a customization of how they got the phone, it seems trivial but things like changing the background aren't possible on an iPhone(non-jailbroken). That's what I'm getting at.
I have the Milestone on 2.0, although the stock setting bar looks different (white, smaller and with a different border)... does the Milestone have a slightly different UI than the DROID?
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Is that an Android UI on the right there?
If so its' actually quite nice which surprises me. Aside from the htc phones I've yet to see a phone running android that has a decent UI...
@TheRogueFFAngel
Yes, that's Android 2.0. Version 2.1 looks even better.
@TheRogueFFAngel
Android is pretty amazing overall, if you've never messed v2.0 or above i suggest you stop by a store and mess around with it
@TheRogueFFAngel
The UI I saw on the Droid looked quite ugly to be honest. And the Nexus One didn't look much better.
But perhaps they were running some old version.
@TheRogueFFAngel
yeah, Android FINALLY looks crisp and beautiful, unlike the cartoony mess of 1.x.

@MarcusMaximus Yup just go to youtuube and you can see my vids to see how sweet Android setups can really look. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBJQY9L0ZjM&feature=youtube_gdata
