LPD display tech from Prysm uses lasers, phosphors, groovy Flash intros
Well, it's Thursday. You know what that means: it's time for another new revolutionary display technology that will offer better image quality at lower costs and with reduced energy consumption. Today's breakthrough is LPD, or Laser Phosphor Displays. They rely on a screen covered in phosphors, much like a traditional CRT, but instead of a scanning beam of electrons those pixels are excited by a series of lasers. It seems rather similar to SED and FED tech, but with lasers rather than cathodes, thus making it roughly 23 times more awesome. The display tech is said to be able to created in any shape or size, and with its long lifespan and low power consumption is being targeted toward large-scale installations for advertising and the like. Don't believe the hype? Turn up those speakers, click on that read link, and prepare to be awed by the breathless potential of... Prysm.

I wouldn't mind one for my home theater :D
@Vdek oh come on.. you already have it... its IRL Playstation Home ... UCK
sounds cool, need some of these to cover my four walls in my rec room. Now that would rule. May as well do the roof and floor too!
Interesting tech. The girl is hot, anyone see that pic of her in a high res version?
@capwkidd i like her midriff
@bigdonny I wonder where she got those flowers from; it's clearly a field of endless grass.

@Gad Get Nice find dude!
@Jban
you rock
@bigdonny I'm not gonna lie. I went to the website specifically to get a better look at her midriff.
@bigdonny Forget flash intros, I would like an intro to her flashing.
I'd like to watch Avatar on that screen.
O my.... go to their web site....
... Brought to you by Umbrella corporation.
@avonord Yeah, that video monologue is waaay over the top corporate creepy promo, almost like it's fake.
Checked out the "Introduction" video at their website... two words for you: "uninspired", and "uninspiring". No wait, I forgot their contrived, gag-worthy buzz word: "ecovative". Ugh.
@Gad Get
It's almost like someone misspelled evocative....
Yeah I also fell in love, oh yea the tv is nice too :)
@engadget
saying "LPD display" is redundant.
Will never catch on!
The resolution is too low.
Look at that things, its only: 14 x 6 pixels.
my phone is game boy is better than that !
It's NOT like SED since that is millions of tiny tubes with one pixel, this is just like an ancient CRT where there is one beam scanning a surface, so hello folks, it's back the interlacing and flickering you all missed so much...
@Wwhat
Say hello to inky blacks, no motion blur, and perfect viewing angles? I wonder if this has resolution independence too...
@Wwhat
My guess is the advantage is that you don't have to magnetically steer the electron beam to make for a much flatter display.
@reallynotnick
Haha, yeah it's back to the CRT including both advantages and disadvantages I guess, there is a difference though, there won't be the old focusing issues and it should be sharper, also there won't be 2 horizontal lines floating across the screen I guess.
But why don't they just use an laser projector and make a screen that boosts the brightness of the image via some chemicals on it, would save the hassle of doing 3 colors in precise patterns
Seems to me they're piloting inferior technology with substandard marketing, I can't think of anyone who's done that :)
That doesn't mean it won't sell though
The chick looks hot.
I hear the sound of lions. . .
The voice completely freaks me out... the beat is nice though, anyone know the name of the song?
I'll have two for my dual screen composition!
everything is better with lasers.
!!!EVERYTHING!!!
Pew! Pew!
