Nintendo DSi XL coming to Europe March 5, US eventually
The last we heard, Nintendo's super-sized DSi XL (or DSi LL if you're Japanese) would be hitting the Colonies sometime in the first quarter of 2010. As of now we have no information contrary to that, but we do have news specifying when the European nobility will get theirs: March 5. That means UK gamers have less than two months to determine whether they are eligible for an upgrade from the slender DSi, and if you're not sure how to check, just measure the depth and breadth your pockets. If you have room in there for the new version, with its stereo 4.2-inch screens, you'd better make with that pre-order: Nintendo Japan sold more than 100,000 of the things in just two days.

I do want this. Maybe I am getting that old...
I want it simply because my DS almost never leaves my room. Nintendo says the XL is pretty much for those who play it in the comfort of their own home 99% of the time.
@trainwrecka I want it because I've got big hands and brown is one of my favorite colors.
@(Unverified)
That's brown? It looks more Burgundy than Brown. Great ... now I'm gonna have to get a new monitor.
I'm waiting for the DS to be the size of a laptop.
@trainwrecka
First me want smaller, and then it is just too small? WTH
@Meekermoloko
That's not brown in the picture, but it does come in brown.
@trainwrecka Nintendo has announced the launch date of its latest DS update. The Nintendo DSi XL, sporting two 4.2 inch screens (93% bigger than the screen on the Nintendo DS Lite) will arrive in Europe on 5 March
WOW details: http://bit.ly/nintendo-dsi-xl-uk-details
Ill be the first in line, the current one is too small, my hands get cramped after a while. Plus that screen looks amazing in size, cant wait!! Maybe i missed something but, how much?
I don't want this AT ALL. But it's a good sign from Nintendo. Get all the rehashes, remakes, redesigns out of the way early in 2010 so we can get the DS2 this E3...
@TareG That's what I can't wait for. I'm ready for the next DS with Tegra 2 (hopefully).
@ElCapitan
To tell you the truth, the new DS will have to have mouth-watering amazing games to win me over. So far, with my DS lite, the games aren't as appealing as -say- the Gameboy or the SNES library. I didn't get the PSP because I am waiting for a next-gen portable... So, if Eurogamer's right, the new next-gen PSP2 should be out, 4 times as powerful as the DS2 by Q4 2010.... with dual nubs, a touchscreen, and 4 shoulder buttons PLEASE.
Can't wait for some pixilated goodness!
Uh, I mean, bigger screens?
Mmmmmm......... pixel bytes.......
is there a price-point?
With decent resolution, this would make a nice eBook reader. And with a touch screen QWERTY active on the lower screen, a nice mini netbook too. Just add some connectivity Nintendo - how about a sim card slot? Like the XBOX becoming a media centre, the DSi XL could be a stealth attack on the mini tablet/eBook etc market. Hmmm...?
Actually, it would make a crappy eBook reader and netbook (with its weaksauce ARM processors). Without e-Ink screens, it's not gonn be a good eBook reader.
@Oflife
Not to mention that this is a product, not a concept. There is no room for change.
@Oflife
YOUR JOKING use as a netbook with
4.2 inch screen 250 x 192 resolution
16 MB of RAM
Arm 133 MHz processor
@Oflife
Way too small for a netbook--or even a mini netbook. The only netbook task I could see it accomplishing is web browsing it would likely only be a bit more pleasurable than doing it on a cellphone thought not necessarily a bad experience. As for the eBook angle, I foresee reading getting really tiresome, really quickly on such a small screen especially for faster readers. At 4.2 inches, it's optimal for the purpose it was designed for-- playing games on the go in comfort.
@Oflife
Even Netbooks with 1024x600 resolution are too low for me.
For a 4.2 in. with 250x192, my cellphone has a higher resolution than that.
4.2 inch screen 250 x 192 resolution,
no thanks,
@OCEAN CLAK *LOL* my Moto Droid's 3.7 inch screen has more pixels than the 2 displays on this thing, combined. The only reason the DS graphics look decent on a normal DS is because the screens are small, this is going to suck graphics wise.
Where does that pen-like stylus reside in/on the DSi XL?
Seriously, where is the need for this?
@swastyka
I can't imagine how it'd be even marginly successful. It's probably just to satisfy a small nitch, and I guess nintendo is rich enough to humor the idea
@swastyka I plan to buy it for my grandmother. She REALLY wants to play games like Chrono Trigger and other similar games again, but has trouble reading the text. She's also looking forward to Golden Sun DS.
@twellzer : My mother is very happy with the idea of a bigger DS. She uses mine and the only complaint for it was the screen size. I'm planning on getting my mother one as soon as it get this side of the pond!
I'm expecting a fail, as epic as the Game Boy Micro.
With such a gigantic bezel on the current models, the obvious move should have been to increase the screen size by betting rid of the bezel, while maintaining the same overall size. The DSi is hardly pocketable right now: making it bigger means that it's going to sit at home, where you might as well play with your Wii or PS3.
@calagan
I would bet the Game Boy Micro made more money than you or I will in our entire lives. Why it isn't compatible with old school Gameboy games is beyond me.
It's obvious Nintendo should have sold 8 bit classics on a gameboy micro. What a silly thing that they did not.
Regardless, success is relative. They made money.
Why don't they just team up with a cell phone maker and release a game boy cell phone? It doesn't have to do anything but the things a standard totally subsidized cell phone does, and play Game Boy games.
@swastyka
thing that bugs me is it's still got the same crap buttons from the DS lite and so on, still awkward to hold and play, and why I enjoy playing on an old DS more (got for free cause someone broke the screen and thought it was broken)
i have a ds. didn't need a dsi, and i def. don't need this. lol. thank you m3 sakura
But the big question is, does it print money?
I think the thing looks amazing. I just don't get why they went all small with the ds lite, and now it's big again.
If I already had a DSi, I wouldn't really be losing sleep over this. There's nothing really new except a bigger screen
I would get this propably if it wasn't so expensive, I mind putting almost 200 € for a handheld gaming device. DS lite was in the edge that I bought it but these are over the edge for me.
