Fan-made render? Very possible, but we're intrigued by the notion. The gang at
Mobile01 have laid out two
more photos of what is being called the Motorola Shadow (not to be confused with the
T-Mobile Shadow), which in a nutshell looks like
Droid /
Milestone with a white keyboard and wrist strap. Even more interesting is the assertion that this could be Google's next flagship device, here lovingly dubbed the Nexus Two. Now while there is no way to corroborate at this point, we could totally buy this as feasible. After all, what better way to complement the
Nexus One slate than with one with physical QWERTY? And who better than the company whose
Android 2.0 device increased the platform's mindshare at supersonic speeds,
with a CEO willing to signify support even at the launch event for a competitor's product? Color us curious -- wrist strap-laden render after the break
[Thanks, Serge]
@designer989 well hes not the only one...
the only reason i have NOT switched to the nexus one/mytouch 3g/ or samsung behold is because of the lack of keyboard....
no us typers are not in a competition...BUT for us (in my opinion) its a lot easier to text and communicate with people.
Another shit keyboard from Moto.
Can someone please release an Android with a usable kboard please!!
@dansus The G1's keyboard is pretty usable. Sadly its the only thing on the entire phone that IS usable. *sighs*
I want it I want it I want it end of discussion put a hundred straps on it just take them off if you don't like them whiners . If it runs Android than it's a must have point blank period it's a wrap no pun intended.
This is full of win.
Moto: I want my G1 replacement guys. That's 3G GSM (and maybe some HSPA+). And I want it now.
iPhone acknowledged this problem with the long press that zooms the text so you can have micro-control over where your cursor goes -- if its a touch device without this sort of implement, it MUST have a secondary form of input for finely tuned positioning of the cursor.
@TrumanHW
so, the d-pad?
And of course since T Mobile sucks my right ass cheek it will never have this phone. Probably ATT will get it.
This is a really neat device. It seems to have more functions than the current hardware. Improvements and revisions are always welcome, as long as said improvements don't impair current functionality of the device. More functionality is obviously welcome as well.
looks sick, but why black screen on a white phone...
black with that carbon fibre look; or all white... maybe even with white carbon fibre look
looks like what the droid should have been, with regards to the physical keyboard
Umm Fact Check yourselves please.. the moto droid did NOTHING for android mindshare.. Verizon Wireless spending many many many millions on television advertising for 'droid' increased mindshare for the products IT sells as "droid'.. which for all intents and purposes could have been a feature phone, a winmobile phone, a symbian phone or a blackberry.. and it would have sold EXACTLY the same way.. Sheep will buy what sheep know about.
Seriously, the "P" key is in the worst position ever!
Every time you try to hit 'p' your gonna be hitting 'up' instead. Other than that, not bad at all. Regarding the "Nexus Two" theory...umm, this thing looks straight-up Veizon-ized to me. Assuming its even real.
D-Pads are much better than trackballs... mainly because in those times when you have multiple lines of text, say you're typing an email... and you realize that halfway back in the second line you made a typo. When you have to roll a trackball 30 characters back, you're undoubtedly going to accidentally go down a line, up a line, something. And, on the G1, for example, when that happens the cursor resets at the END of the line that you accidentally move up or down to.
Ginnormous pain in the ass. I'll take the D-Pad over the trackball any day of the week.
I'm not saying this means the image isn't real, but where's the earpiece? On the Droid, you can easily see the earpiece to the left of the screen in the horizontal position.
In this image, you can't see any aperture for the earpiece.
This would certainly have my money. I love my G1 and certainlywould want a similar form factor but with the specs of the nexus one. If only motorola could get the keyboard of the G1 on the device.
I love the look of it but that keyboard layout seems pretty awkward, particularly the enter key below and right of the dpad. And lose the wriststrap, I think that is one innovation from the asian markets that we don't need.

@Evan
1) Move D-Pad to the Left
2) ????????
3) Profit!
The Google Nexus 'One' was failed product.

Google Nexus One's First Week of Sales Were Weak, Report says
Daniel Ionescu, PC World
"Next to the poor first week sales figure, the Nexus One has also seen mounting complaints over the 3G connectivity of the device and the lack of developer tools for the Android 2.1 platform."

Nexus One Users Report Poor 3G Access

@ju1bxmmh
its poor sales are because it is running on t-mobile! horrible coverage (at leased where i live) and they have the LEASED 3G of ANY carrier!
@ju1bxmmh
I don't think google cares. All I know is that I have the best phone on the market, and 7.2mbps hspa speeds.
@ju1bxmmh
Avatar didn't go well first weeks either...
Complaints Of Poor Support For Google’s Nexus One

This device looks sweet. Looking forward to the specs.
Theres nothing wrong with the D pad, but an optical pad would have been better.
Very beautiful design this should be award design !

Yes--I wish more devices nowadays still did that. One of my only complaints about my N900 is that it has no d-pad.
It's easier to scroll through an ebook when the device has a d-pad on the outside--the only thing I miss about my dead HTC Wizard is how easily I could read a long text file. Motorola should really make this device a bit larger overall and move the d-pad to the outside.
Faker. The real Shadow doesn't even have a keyboard.
@Evan Snesoid and the other emulator apps by the same guy have added a 'flip-screen' feature so you can use the dpad on the left side if you want, so I no longer think its a big deal. I've beaten Megaman X and X3 on the Droid that way.
First off, I like how the track pad got smaller than the Droid. However, I hope they put the track pad on the left side for better gaming.
Also I hope they don't put all those touch buttons at the screen. What ever happened to real buttons that work far better? I don't have the iphone but its home button is a real button for a reason = no accidental pressing while using the phone. With the Droid, I sometimes press clear with my palm.
This is awesome. Please don't change anything, Motorola. Visually, it looks perfect....
I really did not think I would ever buy a Motorola phone after the last couple of years, but this picture slapped me in the face.
Oh and the potential specs of course.
The wrist strap is a nice touch, too. This thing looks really solid.
Well Well Where`s my WM7
Holy wow, this is the perfect form factor. WANT.
