While we have yet to see the
Acer Liquid popping up for real on American soil, the lucky Brits have just been treated to a second color option -- black -- for this underclocked
Snapdragon Android phone. Still no sign of the red option that Acer promised, though. Price remains steady at around £330 (which is about $537) at a couple of UK e-tailers, but hey, with that shiny $529 tag on the
Nexus One it's hard to be mad at our British friends. Let's hope Google and Vodafone can
work out something nice for them.
WOW 5 out of the 6 front page post has to do with android!
@Napsterking
engadget turning into Google/Android fanbois
@Napsterking
BREAKING NEWS: WE NOW KNOW THE INTERNAL CODENAME (ONLY USED BY EMPLOYEES) FOR A MINOR UPDATE OF ANDROID
I think its obvious now they are biased towards android. they even have that stupid banner on the right side that says "game changer" for android even though android hasnt done anything significant
@Nokia N900
So Engadget is now a group of both Android fanbois, and Apple jock riders?
Methinks this bias is fictional.
I predict on January 27th, they will have almost an entire page of Apple related articles.
You may call me Nostradamus.
@Troll
And all your posts consist of Android bashing, and Apple dick rinding. Shouldn't call people out on perceived biases when you clearly have one of your own.
@TheGM
Did you miss his name by chance? Stop feeding the troll kthx.
@Troll Did someone pee pee in your apfelsaft?
@Napsterking
Android will be the shit! I'm sure of it! I've got android on my WinMo phone and I LOVE IT. (Although I kinda miss messing around with fixing up my Windows Mobile OS.... ) Iphone is nice looking, but just too boring. You don't feel like you have any say when you use an iphone.
This is the color it should be in my opinion. I'm not the biggest fan of the color white on my gadgetry. That's part of the reason why I spent the extra money on my 360.
Has anyone had experience with the Liquid? How was it? More specifically, how does it compare to the N1?
@BigJayDogg3
I'd bet it'd be quick, but slower than the Nexus. It's running 1.6, which is not quite as tuned up as 2.1, as well as being clocked down to 768Mhz. I hear it still flies, but those 2 things probably help the Nexus edge it out.
However, given XDA's new foray into Android devices, I'd say expect 2.1 sooner rather than later, and not to rule out getting the device back to 1Ghz.
Shipping with fugly old stock Android?
@TareG
Considering it is an acer phone we are talking about here consider it a gift. Have you seen their WinMo skinning? If not, be very thankful....
@newreformation
Point taken.
Just get a Nexus One or a Droid and be done with it. The N1's metal body almost seals the deal for me on its own.
@YpoCaramel
I have to say I agree. I loathe ultra shiny plastic on my devices because let's face it; it just does not hold up against scratching at all. Moto and HTC were smart with the Metal and Teflon casing (in the case of the N1, just metal for the Milestone). These devices find themselves dropped, or next to keys, or change, or whatever. I honestly think manufacturers cannot really get away with the shiny stuff anymore because it simply looks AWFUL after about a week. A few co-workers refused to get a "certain popular device" without a case because of this.
@Level 5 And that certain popular device started out with a quality metal back. The things we lose. Honestly I'm looking for unibody construction on the fourth generation because HTC and Motorola has upped the game, the 3GS is one of the cheaper feeling smartphones of this generation.
There are Queen's money in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and more.
@tommy2468 Meh, they're all dollars.
@Richard Lai
Queens dollars ;)
i got acer liquid, the best value for money and underrated phone on the market imo. looks sweet aswell. get it
@tc4101
I don't think he meant what currency they deal in :)
@tc4101
How so? As far as I can see it's the same price as the N1 for less spec?
@stork i think you'll find street prices will be less than the RRP. prob $50 cheaper than the N1
@stork
No it isn't, liquid is +500$ and N1 is +700$. So Acer one is great for that less money.
@swastyka
Down from 1000 to 800 MHz, if memory serves me.
That one was aimed at tommy2468.
is fast for any of the applications available on the market right now. prob the most intesive would be something like Destinator GPS program and it handles it fine.. would easy last 1-2 years development before needing to upgrading to next generation processor,
I have got the black Liquid and I'm very satisfied. It's fast as f*** even at the lower 768MHz clock rate. Also, when Acer releases the kernel source (by the end of Jan) we'll gonna smack it around with the full 1GHz rate. Although, it's getting already better benchmark scores in Neocore than N1 ;). Acer has said it will be getting Android 2.x update by March.
All in all, a solid powerhouse that carries rather underrated status in the Android market right now.
They are compensating for the original android/nexus one hate. Fickle is the word your looking for not fanboys. Depending on which guest they have on the engadget show at the time they tend to post things about that company.
Loving my Nexus one
@GeekGirl
Hv ya got a HR version of your avatar?
@GeekGirl
Ya know, I love mine as well, but how is this relevant to the Acer Liquid?
It looks like a nice phone but:
Why would anyone prefer this Liquid thing instead of the Nexus One?
Just to make clear that they are a bit stupid and like to waste their money?
@Plexus
Simple. 1900Mhz means you can take this to AT&T and get HSDPA.
@Level 5 But it's missing 850, which accounts for a lot of AT&T's range.
@Plexus
in the uk, I dunno, but in italy its a good 200€ (280$) cheaper then a droid
It has a very competitive price for what it offers
@Plexus
Living on the wrong side side of the pond I (luckily) have no idea of what you're talking about; still for us europeans the Liquid (as nice as it is to look at) makes very little sense.
I'm waiting to be able to exchange my Hero with a Nexus 1 , maybe with Milestone, possibly with an X10 , but definitely not with a Liquid.
But who knows?
I'll love nothing better thanto be surprised and being proved wrong.
@Pozz can u give us a websit where its 208euro? for that price i will get another liquid :)
So this whole post/article is just to say that it is now available in another color? The cellphone coverage on Engadget is beyond absurd.
Probably worth remembering when comparing to the Nexus.
The Nexus 'list price' currently costs $30 shipping and then 17.5% VAT on-top of both the price and shipping.
