It's on: Apple holding January 27th event to show off its 'latest creation'

Update: We're not ones for wild speculation, but the inclusion of splatter paint and the use of the word "creation" could suggest that if we do see the long-rumored Tablet at this event, the focus could be slanted towards art, music, and movie-making. Maybe we'll finally figure out what the point of an Apple tablet is! On the other hand, that might just be a bit of wild speculation. Feel free to generate your own kooky concepts in comments -- we promise not to judge you.

@NexusOneBlog
What about iSketch of iPad ;0)

iSlate.com is under brand protection, we can't see who registered the domain so it may well be called that.
Make it worth my while. This tablet better not be gimped nor horribly expensive.
@Red Rover
ur asking for too much.. :P
@Red Rover
Better not be expensive or gimped? I guess you don't buy many apple products..
Remember the rumours of the 'table't before last Octobers event?
Maybe it's just the same again.
@Red Rover
It's Apple so it's going to be both gimped and horribly expensive. But it's Apple so you are still going to love it...
@Red Rover
1) Expensive or not, it will look super cool and sell like hotcakes
2) We can stop with dumb tablet rumors and look forward to 2nd gen tablet rumors.
@Red Rover
ive never bought anything apple... ever. but i eagerly await the day they make a product that entices me enough to actually buy it. here's hoping this is it :D
skyblaze waits in anticipation
@cardfan
Note for the 27th: just this once, could everyone please let me enjoy the damn live coverage? I'm looking forward to whatever's released, and I'd really appreciate it if everyone who feels the need to be a dick about Apple posts would just . . . not comment for once. Please. I'm serious.
OK I'll make you a deal – how about this: if all you witsters and snarkers don't comment on the 27th, I promise to comment something snarky about an Apple product at some point in . . . let's say February. Deal?
Watch the "iTablet" turn out to be some worthless art pen-pad with display device for the MacPro that only three people in the world will ever buy.
@Red Rover
It will more than likely be awesome and if able to be subsidized with a cellular network... it will sell as well as the iPhone. Which poses new questions and issues. Gimped... well I can understand why it would be slightly. There ALWAYS has to be a reason for people to want the next version, and the next, and the next etc...
@Red Rover
Hey, I just realised.
This may be the first piece of Apple news this year that isn't actually a rumour!
@skyblaze
Their are Apple products worth their price. The iMac price is only slightly overpriced but fairly solid all in one. Not for me though. But I have to ask you.
Why would you look forward to buying a device that has a 30% chance of turning you into a brain dead consumer or even worse a douche?
@Red Rover
Do not expect it to be less than $999!
But never forget you are buying more than the internal specs, the quality of design and materials it as also to be paid for.
@Dragngt
haha... you're funny...
@Red Rover
My wants:
1. It's gotta be running a dual or multi core CPU
2. It's gotta have a front facing camera
3. It's gotta be no heavier than 2 or 3 pounds
4. UI should look like the iPhone's but with larger icons.
5. It better have decent enough graphics for gaming
6. It's gotta have GPS, WiFi, bluetooth (for third party stuff like thin foldable keyboard) and USB
7. Battery should last 12 hours of use (not standby, use) ..possible if they use an advanced display technology.
As for size hmm .. 10 inch .. but maybe 13 inch would do too (form factor of an LCD off a macbook pro).. and pls minimal or no bezel mmkay? Also wouldn't mind a 6 inch (diagonally) model with a 2:1 aspect ratio for the display.
@marek
Good luck with that. The Apple Haters Brigade are already fine-tuning their comment GripeBots for Jan. 27. It's what they live for.
Me, I'm just hoping to see a really cool new device that won't shut them up per se but make them seethe with jealousy nonetheless.
Steve Jobs should throw a Tina Fey "Suck it haters!" line into his preso.
@JS
Hmm you know what I am thinking why not go oversize .. like 15, 17, inch or even 21 inch tablets like they had in the movie Avatar .. they'd prolly weigh too much though with today's tech .. hmm.
@Mack Stone My prediction: It won't be anything like all the "spy photos" and renderings that we've seen. Remember all the mockups and blurry pics we saw of the iPhone? Right.
@marek
The live feed is on here, right? I'm kinda new here, so pardon my not-knowing-my-way-around-ness please.
Anyways, during the introduction of the 3GS last year, I was watching/reading a live feed that would refresh every minute or so, and it would show the latest stuff from the keynote.
Unfortunately, Im not sure which website this was on. Was it on here?
Any ideas anyone? Thanks
@Mack Stone
Or it will be like the MacBook Air or AppleTV.
Funny how you just assume everything Apple released was like the iPhone.
@Mack Stone
Because, if you don't care for Apple products, you are clearly a geek.
@Mack Stone lol, I like the prediction. I've been waiting for Apple to announce a gaming console for a couple years now lol. It is bound to happen.
@Mack Stone
MY expectation?
1920x1200 display on a 7 inch screen
8 gigs DDR3 RAM
Core i9 Processor
3 USB 3.0 ports
2 HDMI IN; 2 OUT
802.11 N WIFI
AT&T AND TMO 3G
a complimentary pet chocobo
All for $299... no contract :P
lets make it happen, Apple... lets make it happen...
@Sohrob That probably wasn't on here last year. But it might be this year considering that all the CES live feeds this year did that. Last year I read an apple keynote livefeed that did that on gdgt.com
Personally, I think that apple will launch iLife 2010, possibly iLife Touch for iPhone OS mobile. And I doubt there will be a tablet, but if there is it will be nothing like the rumors, completely revolutionary, amazing, and the first gen will be over priced and be missing all th features that actually make it useful.
And I think maybe Macbook Pros with Core i3/i5/i7 processors.
@Red Rover If you look at the image, there is the outline of a rectangle behind some of the paint splatters. This could be hinting at the shape, design or the coming of the Tablet.
@skyblaze
kwehhh!
@Sohrob
Oh . . . it'll be on here. That's for damn sure. They'll do the whole minute-by-minute live updates thing with photos n stuff. It's gonna be sweet! (Unless Apple kills it by launching a new . . . set of headphones. But then at least it'll be hilarious.)
@(Unverified) They are calling it their "newest creation".
Last time I checked, no brand-new product was released in October.
@Mack Stone
Nice. I have a few too...
1) On release it will be hailed as 'a new technological paradigm' by the usual bloggers and tame journalists. Numerous articles will be penned describing how it can do innovative things like 'browse the net' and 'display words and pictures'.
2) It will sell a million or more to the usual fanboys and glitterati. This will result in more articles from said bloggers and journalists about how it will dominate everything and replace the PC, TV and Cinema by 2012.
3) Sales will rapidly tail off once the fanboys, etc have got theirs and everyone else has raised the question "Sure, it's nice but what the hell does it actually do?"
4) It will have a high failure rate because they've made it as thin as an after eight mint and it will overheat even if you keep it locked in an icebox. These reports will largely be ignored by the tame press and bloggers. Anyone complaining on the support forums will be summarily executed by Steve's hit squad.
5) After it becomes clear that it's exhausted its niche it will never, ever be mentioned again by the tame press and bloggers who will be nervously looking at each other and hoping that no-one remembers what they said about world domination. They will help distract people from their words by spreading endless rumours of an Apple contact lens that, like, "beams the web to your frikken eyeballs, man!". There will be at least one article on this every week until the next iPhone comes out.
@Mack Stone And the winner of the award for "Post of The Year" goes to..... Mack Stone.
@MarkAnderson can we remind you of this post 1 year from now?
@skyblaze
Core i9? That processor alone is $1,100....
Would love to see it though! We can dream...
@HighestRanked
Yup. Hey, if I'm wrong I'll be the fist to put my hand up.
@Red Rover actually Apple is a perfect marketing company :P
@Red Rover
I think both gimped nor horribly expensive and in a lot of colors, the apple colors :)
@Mack Stone
I'm typing on said 'fictional' Macbook. As for Nokia tablets, like every other tablet, I don't see the point.
But, like Hot Fuzz says, let's see what happens in a year, eh?
@skyblaze Steve jobs: " 2 HDMI-in, 2 out, for optimal Blu-ray moviewatching, did I mention our bag of hurt is Louis Vuitton made?.......BOOM! "
@Red Rover
Interesting. This is the first time I've heard of Apple having an announcement on the 27th or any rumors of some kind of Apple tablet....
... in the past 15 seconds.
@MarkAnderson
6) Apple fans will, like the Apple TV and MacBook Air, which they conveniently forget were hyped just like this, will see that a device that was niche is that for a reason, and will not magically find a mass audience because "Apple made the UI cool", forgetting that you actually need a USE for something put on the market, and not a logo and fanaticism.
When they find out that, gee like all other tablets and slates, most people dont care for the form factor or the limitations of such, and they will just say that people need to catch up so they can appreciate the genius of it (actually said regarding the Apple TV).
Device doesnt get mentioned again or is regarded as a "hobby".
@Mark Anderson
You're trying waaaay too hard.... let Mack Stone handle the funny.
@PBB WOOSH!!
@skyblaze
$299? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOPE. Try somewhere around $799+.
Hope the speculation is correct. I always wanted a Wacom CINTIQ.
This could replace my nds and colors experience :)
Hope it runs arteffect3.0
I've been listening to this Mark Anderson guy a while and he sounds like the ultimate douche. He probably speaks with a proper Essex accent and is probably more smug and pretentious than the Apple fanboys he obsesses about.
He's never right about anything. Apple's sales every quarter proves that.
@Mack Stone
7. Actually thats BS. The GRIDPad was the first tablet pc, released in 89 and the Newton wasn't even in development till two years later. So as usual it's a case of Apple stealing other peoples ideas.
@Mack Stone You forgot step 8 again... The one where Apple releases a new tablet a year later that is twice as fast, and costs half the price. The Apple fanboys will rant and complain about how they got ripped off when they purchased iTablet 1.0... while waiting in line outside the Apple Store for the new version.
@MarkAnderson
You probably meant "bum," right Ringo?
@skyblaze What are you on?
