Nokia Ovi press event this Thursday, 'big news' promised
If you're a Nokia lover who is currently jealous of all the Apple fans and their current state of delicious expectation, we're happy to say that now you too can savor a little anticipation. Nokia is sending out invitations to an event this Thursday, January 21, indicating it will "share some big news with you." Well, not with you exactly, but rather with us media-types, and you can be sure we will then pass it along posthaste. But what will Nokia be sharing? We hate to spoil the fun, but we can't imagine it'll be anything other than the revamped Ovi Store the company has been talking up lately -- that said, we're always up for a surprise.

@Rev Yeah. I am more worried though about a lack of developers seeing Maemo as a platform that they would want to spend their time on, compared to thinking that the other operating systems would be more beneficial.
Don't get me wrong, there some apps out there right now and there will be more that will come along. However, being that most people who use the n900 are going to be "geeks", I don't think that we will see as many "consumer" apps as we do on other platforms, but rather more geeky type stuff.
I am sure that eventually a twitter app will find it's way along with a facebook, google maps, etc. But you probably will never see like you do with Apple or RIM or Android where you could have your choice of several applications for the same services.
BIG NEWS: we bought palm and are gonna make sure webos can run android apps.

@CanisMinor
OWNED!!
Can't wait!
How about a version of the OVI software that actually works
@Xoy: Just tried accessing the Ovi Store from my phone and the store is going through "maintenance."
Let me guess: The big news is Nokia ditching its 2 decade old Symbian OS and replacing it with Android :D (a man can dream)
@Ahmed Eltawil
I wouldn't want that. Android makes for a crappy 1hand mobile device OS. Not to mention that Symbian is still more feature complete. So complete, in fact, that even their low end "S" devices (dumbphones) are fully capable of smartphone functionality.
As good as android is for the touch-devices, it would be a step backwards for Nokia.
Symbian is a tad sucky as a touch device OS but is really good with 1hand devices, which was what it was designed for. MAEMO & Symbian 4 will be their touch device OS in the coming future.
Oh big deal!! Ever seen an Ovi app???? Hmmmm
The writer of this post is too full of himself!
