Our guess is that the EROS tablet got caught in customs on its way to join its
tablet friends at CES. Poor kid. Regardless, the 10.1-inch 1366x768 resistive touchscreen device still deserves its time to in the sun. Powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, it runs Windows 7 (we're hoping Home Premium since Starter doesn't support touch). It all sounds fairly good until you hear about its three-cell battery's abysmal hour and a half of run time. And we've also got to say that it looks pretty chunky in the pictures, but most Wintel tablets are. But hey, maybe HP and Microsoft will change all that with
the Slate. But if the EROS has struck your fancy, it looks to only be available in China
for about 3,000 yuan or $441.
Oh snap, 2 hours!? Sign me up!
@EGOvoruhk
would be a sweet 2 hours though!
@EGOvoruhk
Odd the title says
''2 hours of battery life''
The Text Says
''It all sounds fairly good until you hear about its three-cell battery's abysmal HOUR AND A HALF run time''
well 1hr 30mins is really poor for any device. a 3hr battery minimum should be the least for all netbooks, tablets, umpc etc
and the magazine has 2 decades of shelf life and a $2.99 price tag
The 720p video playback is nice however, an hour and a half of battery life = Fail. That's not even long enough to watch the entire engadget show. WTF!!
@Edobe
True, true. But it's enough to see Josh run out of jokes.
@Edobe actually, it is.. well, at least the last engadget show, as it was only 1 hr + 11 minutes.
Oh Snapdragon! Should of been used instead....
That's where wireless power should be useful.
@Indefinite Implosion
Please tell me you're being sarcastic
To think that by this time next year, Engadget will be reviewing the Windows Mobile "Seven" WXGA phone with 720p decoding on a 3.8" screen for +10 hrs..... makes me want to disregard this 1.5 hr 10" tablet.... This is why companies don't leak their products...
Beat that iSlate!
Of course you will, won't you Apple? :)
@Comment
Soooo wouldn't surprise me if the Apple tablet looked quite a lot like this.
@Wolfticket The Apple tablet definitely won't look like that.
Employees blood : buttons
Of course Wintel tablets are thick. Most of them are running full version of a PC OS. To do that, you have to use hardware to support it - resulting in a thicker unit.
Thinner units end up being netbooks. Or, well, phones. I love the smartphone revolution that has happened. But it is going to be a hard sell for me to spend a few hundred dollars or more on something that just bigger than my iPhone. Even the mythical Apple tablet has me doubting how useful it will truly be.
But I hope. I hope the new HP tablets review well. I could use a nice tablet for my business work, but it has to run productivity software - not just apps from the Apple store.
@Anatidae lul.. "thicker unit"
mid $400s is about what I'd pay for something like this, but show me that courier!
The batter life is too poor to really be worth it.
with xp, it probably can run up to 3 hours.
Nice size. Nice resolution. Poor processor. Poor OS. Absymal battery life.
Absolutely stupid price tag.
I'm sorry.... 2 hours?
@werty1432k thats what SHE said ;D

i've got a better name for it: "the ripoff"'
If Apple (or HP) can't do better than this then just forget it.
Almost 2 pounds? I was hoping for something closer to the Kindle's 10 ounces. Remember you're going to hold this with one hand while you watch TV...
Almost an inch thick? Again, hoping for better. My Acer AS1810 is only a little thicker than this. Clearly, its possible to pack things tighter than this, for damn sure.
Less than two hours battery? Well, that is a problem. Atom isn't bad. Course they're claiming 720p video playback, which means Atom + Ion or something. Which might be why the battery life is so poor. Obviously Apple will do something using Tegra or whatever, with some kind of ARM core. Plus work their magic. Still... battery life is going to be a problem with this size screen and given the desire for light weight and given that its not going to be OLED this year anyway...
They should stop making tablets until the rumored islate comes out. I mean anyone who has any idea about the tablets right now will consider waiting for the apple tablet.
What's up with the name!?
This machine is completely out of touch with reality. 2 hrs battery runtime is a joke on any kind of mobile machine and is outrageous for a tablet.
Already announced/displayed Tegra2 based devices offer 4-8 times of this. True, they are not on the market yet.
2 hours LOL
