Best Buy already stocked up on the Core i5-equipped
VAIO S and
Satellite E205, and now it seems that everyone else is following suit. Just weeks after Intel
announced that it would be releasing Core i5 and Core i7 chips for the mobile realm, the usual suspects have already outed a number of refreshed rigs that include said slabs of silicon. Sony's 14-inch
VAIO CW is now available from $829 with a mobile Core i3, while the $1,120 version ships with a Core i5, NVIDIA's GeForce GT 330M CPU and a Blu-ray combo drive. Dell has obliged by adding a 2.53GHz Core i5 to its 15-inch
Studio (available now for $999.99), and there's even a version that ships with Netgear's
Push2TV adapter for taking advantage of
Intel Wireless Display technology. Over on the desktop side, Acer hasn't wasted any time by updating its
Aspire G Predator with a sultry black shell (as opposed to the old orange one) and a 3.06GHz Core i7-950 processor, though the $3,185 MSRP should scare away all but the hardest of hardcore. Seen any others get the Core i5 / i7 bump? Shout 'em out in comments!
emerge from every corner, but one corner is waiting for 27th of january... (maybe)
Now if we could only get a core i7 or i5 macbook pro...

With an integrated HD webcam (720p30fps PLEASE) and a pressure sensitive touch pad :D

Saw these at the W 14th St. Apple Store. Only glossy screens are available with the new processors for now. Going back to a thinner bezel and silver keyboards was definitely for the best. I don't know how I feel about being forced to have a blu-ray drive on a macbook pro...even if it is external and can be connected straight to the 27" imac via mini-displayport. The UI on the new iSlate is very nice and it seems very generous of Apple to include one free with a mobileme pro membership. I guess having a 14 hour battery is nice though....for all those 14 hour days I work. JUST KIDDING....I don't work 14 hour days.
@nickershocker
Someones about to get downranked, to depths no one has seen before
@nickershocker
Douchette Bagette
Id love a blu-ray drive though, that would be killer...they should give two options -- one being dvd\cd burner but bluray player, and the higher option with bluray burner...esp for all those final cut peepz.
@(Unverified) Perhaps this baby boast a mere 5.1 pounds, measuring no more than 1.2" thin while boasting the all-new Intel Core i5-430M processor with Turbo Boost Technology to provide above average performance while you're at work. Not so shabby details: http://bit.ly/toshiba-e205-details
Just got my boss a vaio f series *shrugs*
Anyhow which is better or the best i3, i5, i7,idunno
@Gi i7 is the most powerful
@shafe i7 9xxQM and 7xxQM series to be specific, those are the only quad core mobile chips in the i# series.
@Gi
Depends. i3 is good for office tasks.
@Gi
oh ok I got her an i7....Makes sense, time to duplicate that order :-P
@Gi You buy your boss expensive gifts?
Why?
@Deaf Mute
Kinda easy to when its not at my expense
So why exactly is the Studio 13 in the pic if the upgrades aren't for that particular model? At least, not mentioned in the post.
@YpoCaramel
It looks like best buy version XPS 1647 with 15.6" screen. There's a very tiny black bar between hinge and screen.
@yejun No, thats the 13 inch, the studio xps 16 has speakers on the left and right side of the keyboard like the MBP.
And, yes, it's 16, not 15.
@ptj
the xps 16 is only 16" if you get it with the RGB screen, the other screens (WLED) are 15.6"
@yejun In addition to the speakers there's also the matter of thickness - the 16 looks thinner because its footprint is bigger, making the laptop look less squished up. Good point about 15.6" screen versions though, I have the RGB LED so I never noticed.
In addition, the XPS16 a got the i7 720QM quite some time ago, and I remember a roadmap that said i5 - Studio, i7 - Studio XPS. It's not a bad distinction - with the 620 and the UM series, i7 covers everything in the mobile space from low performance power to sheer performance.
"NVIDIA's GeForce GT 330M CPU"
Didn't know that chip now classified as a GPU.
Other way around
An i5 laptop for not a ton more makes me rethink buying a new desktop. The desktop will have the better graphics of course, but the mobility is a fair trade especially when I know I would spend most of my time in a linux partition.
I'm still waiting for the Acer notebooks to show up.
The Rumor: Apple's new iSlate/Table/Pad is said to run Intel's mobile i3/5/7 processors
Our Take: probably not as Apple seeks to innovate and not imitate, they will create the iChip and it'll be smaller than Josh Topolsky's pinky toenail.
Toshiba is coming with refreshed A505 with i3/i5 and Asus is coming with refreshed N61 with i3/i5
Acer's got Aspire 5740 and 7740 models coming out at the end of the month, with some packing ATi Radeon HD 5470 or 5650 GPUs.
(from Acer Canada's price list)
What about solar wind disruptions with satellite communications??
@aquatrax
Are you lost?
The Dell Studio XPS 16 and the Alienware M15x have also received the i3, i5 and i7 treatment.
The N61JQ is looking good http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=ZfpnPRZ5UxVOtrHJ There is also a N71JQ with a 17.3" screen and higher resolution.
@Risco
There's probably a number of other Asus laptops with Arrandale chips. Only problem is that Asus' website, despite being aesthetically pleasing, is terribly organized. I probably discover a new laptop line every time I visit their site because I randomly clicked on a new part of the screen.
Don't get me wrong, I think their products are great. That Ul80JT looks like it's going to be sweet, and without the Sony pricetag. I just think things could be a little easier to find.
Rant over.
There are only 5 Core i5's on newegg, get them coming guys!
Hey Engadget, it's not like there weren't several laptops already using i7 mobile chips well over a month before intel announced their i5 and i3 mobile lineup.
@Solidstate89
hey dude, those were entirely different chips.
@Solidstate89 They were the Clarksfield Quad-Core Core i7's.
These are the 45nm ones that take a lot of power. This set of Core i's are known as Arrandale. They're exclusively dual core. This is what is replacing Core 2 Duo.
Yes, but not enough of them are paired with ION. Far too many are Intel graphics only. Blech.
@BigD145 Real laptops don't use ION. they use the chip that powers ion. Like the HP Mini 311 has ION which is an Nvidia GeForce 9400m, but the Macbook Pro has the 9400m, but it's not called ION
hey guys don't forget about the hp elitebooks that are coming out in Feb. I am personally waiting for the elitebook 8440p. I have fallen in love with it and it also comes with a matte screen. Unless the macbook pros update with more then the i5/i7 (ATI Graphics, BluRay, Matte screen?), I believe I will stick with the elitebook. Check it out:
http://blog.laptopmag.com/hp-elitebook-8440p-and-8540p-hands-on-tough-as-nails
@waynec121 Yup. I think its either the 15" HP or the T510 Thinkpad for me. The HP's obviously have more current tech, like USB 3.0, but I'm pretty used to the thinkpads... have to see how they compare when both are available...
Any word on when any product comes with their ULV i5 processor?
delllllllll!!!....when m4500 coming out ??
