Oh
Sony, you just like to tease us, don't you? Two weeks after a
brief mention at CES, Japan's been given the introductory taste of this tech giant's first ever TransferJet wireless Memory Stick. Meanwhile, Sony Style US has quietly added the same card for pre-order at $99.99 and cites February 8th as the possible launch date -- a slight delay from Sony's promised January launch. If the party's
big enough, this
TransferJet close-proximity radio technology could signal the death of cables and bulky card readers, but you'll still need compatible devices to work that magic on this memory stick. Sony will sure need more than just
a few cameras to get us to make-dot-believe in this new ecosystem.
worthless. I stick to my sandisk.
EyeFi anyone?
@kallekenkel Funny you mention that, as Eye-Fi seems to be a MUCH better implentation. TransferJet looks to be an etremely close-range transfer device, yet Eye-Fi lets you send data over a Wi-Fi network. Eye-Fi cards let you do more too (wireless upload to Picasa/Facebook/Flickr/etc. simply by being in range of a pre-configured Wi-Fi network).
lol nobody cares
@DrDr
yeah all Im just thinking of all the useless proprietary crap sony likes to push on us . . .
Who cares. Sony itself starts embracing SD anyway. This is more like a trap to milk more money from gullible people buying memory sticks.
@pika2000
another way to look at it is that a company is offering support of their new technology for current/previous customers? makes perfect sense.
now transferjet should work on older Sony products before the SD announcement. Hardly the shifty move to rip people off as you proclaim
Ess Dee or a no no.
they should be able to put GPS/Wifi into a M2 to MSPD adapter or microSD to SD adapter, then you can just use a normal M2 or microSD
First, isn't there a support group and like all Japanese manufacturers are supporting this? So who cares who first developed it?
Second, wifi uses a lot more power so you can see why this would be better. And since we don't seem to be getting wireless USB anytime soon, why not be ok with transferJet? If the computer side of this is cheap and gets widely implemented then I'm all for it, of course this will be a big if.
Hey! More Sony Haters... Shocker... Anyways if you cants see the benefit of this technology over Wireless G or even N you are stupid. The transfer rate far exceeds N, It eliminates the need for cables to a computer as well. Plus Sony is showing support now for both memory card systems with TransferJet so they are not abandoning their customers that have memory stick already.
Scottydukes, this is less about hating Sony, which is fun by its self, and more about the fact that Memory Stick is worthless technology. Who supports Memory Stick? A handful of Japanese manufactures which Sony has under their thumbs. Memory Stick is a failure, its more costly than SD, slower than SD, and less supported than SD. The technology depends on Sony equipment over here in the US because nobody is going to support it outside of Sony over here.
@3dpenguin
not sure why you chose to be a dink in the reply to Scotty when he wasn't professing MS superiority, simply statiung that Sony was taking care of it's customers (new SD and the old MS camp)
and FYI... MS runs faster than SD in transfer speeds, always has. Something most uninformed people like yourself fail to recognize because it is in the minority to SD.
MS PRO-HG can hit 480mbit/s (60Mbyte/s) vs SDHC @ 6MByte/s
NO COMPARISON.
@3dpenguin TransferJet would actually be a great technology to apply to a computer. Yes, the speed NOW would be slower, but some nice scientific studying could definitely increase the transfer speed. Besides, if you have a Sony laptop + digital/slr/dslr/camcorder camera, it is an absolutely awesome thing.
I'm looking forward to soon purchase my Sony Vaio F Series which includes the TransferJet software/hardware, and am greatly looking forward to using it, once I buy the card of course.
Now I just have to find myself a Sony camera to use this thing with. Damn!
What the hell is a Memory Stick?
SD kicks this noise all over the place, but for those with a memory stick in the something device, this is a good step in the right direction.
