Maybe it's all the talk of the
ITG xpPhone that's made
ViewSonic's VPC08 come out of hiding, but the phone/MID contraption is finally making a video appearance and revealing why it's so damn thick. Unlike the xpPhone the VPC08 is actually an ordinary feature phone with a 2-inch display stuck on top of an Atom Z500-powered 4.3-inch MID. Uh, innovative? Not so much since it doesn't appear that the two work in conjunction, but we do know that the phone supports EV-DO, and that the MID portion packs
512MB RAM, an 8GB SSD with Windows XP, and WiFi. For those that are at all interested in holding this mega-device up to an ear, it looks like it will be sold only in China for
a whopping 4800 Yuan ($705). No word if that price includes pants with extra-large pockets. We'll be waiting for the
Moorestown-powered LG GW990 to get Atom in a phone, but we do urge you to check out this beast of a "phone" in action in the video after the break.
Your going to need a bigger pocket to hold this one! And possible suspenders to handle the extra heft loading on your bottom covers~
@cosmicinglewood
nice hinges
@cosmicinglewood Other specs on ViewSonic's effort include 512MB RAM, 8GB SSD, Wi-Fi, 1200mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, a mini USB port, 2-megapixel camera, and microSD storage expansion. There had been talk of a roughly $800 price, but that's all speculation until it actually arrives. More details: http://bit.ly/viewsonic-vpc08-details
And XP, come on, who wants viruses on their cell phones?
@cosmicinglewood Some crazy people that's for sure. I'm just wondering why people would want an os not designed for phones on their phone. At least now thanks to ViewSonic they can if they so choose to do so.
Interesting keyboard layout.
I wonder if those diagonally cut ones are separate keys.
I wish make it smaller, lighter, without the keyboard
@htd
I don't know what Bizarro world you're from, but who the hell buys a computer without a keyboard?
@jgp
ever hear of a tablet pc?
@bohoy2k
Let's shop around...
ThinkPad X200 Tablet: has a keyboard
HP TouchSmart tm2t: has a keyboard
Fujitsu LifeBook P1630, T1010, T2020, T4310, T4410, T5010: all have keyboards
A computer without a keyboard isn't a computer, it's a toy.
Is that a ViewSonic VPC08 in your pocket or do you have a large square penis?
First person to make a real "zero bezel" edge-to-edge screen device wins.
The xpPhone has thunder?
@s2m0 If a tree fall in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?
I love the form factor, but I wish it had a decent OS.
Incoming call *presses answer button*....BSOD. damn! should have left my anti-virus scan running when I removed it from the charger this morning!
