We learned
back in November that
Windows 7 was having a much (much!) better first few days in retail than Vista did when it launched, but now that the system has had a full quarter and change to make an impression, it looks as if that growth isn't slowing down. According to new figures from
Net Application, Win7 is achieving a higher level of market penetration in a faster amount of time than Vista did; after a month, Vista was stuck at 0.93 percent, while Win7 nailed the 4 percent mark. After two months, Win7 jumped to 5.71 percent, while Vista was barely over 2 percent after the same amount of time. 'Course, the newest version of Windows had a holiday season to help it out right from the get-go, but there's still no denying that people are flocking to the system even now. What's most interesting, however, is that the overall market share of Windows 7 alone has now surpassed all OS X versions that are being tracked (10.4, 10.5 and 10.6), so put that in your pipe and smoke it. Smoke it
long and hard.
In other breaking news, there are more General Motors cars on the roads worldwide than all models of Aston Martin combined.
Additionally, and shockingly, the Chevy Malibu (Win7) is selling more units than the highly acclaimed and versatile Pontiac Aztek (Vista).
@DigDug sorry that analogy does not work. Because that would mean Macs hardware is in someway better then a PC. The only way you can compare macs and PC's to cars would be to say. macs = the price of a BMW for a VW and PC = the price of a VW for a BMW. You just have to be smart and know how to buy good PC's for cheap. For example don't buy from Sony because they are just as bad as Apple when it come to prices for computers. second building your own is cheaper. Something you just can't do with a mac unless it is a hackintosh
"Windows 7 way hotter than Vista off the line, now more popular than all OS X versions" eh who are you kidding Darren? It only sells cause it's cheap!
@unx8
not really cheaper than the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade..
and yet Windows overtook the market share that OS X built up in 8 years in about 8 weeks after release..
I find it amazing that people actually believe that windows is different this time.
@LEDfoot Well that's why it's called "Marketing". 7 didn't do much changes, but the changes they did made were good, and they milked the hell out of it. What were the differences between Panther and Tiger? Dashboard? Regardless, Tiger sold out too. It's all about marketing.
I cant believe the amount of people claiming Vista to be the worst OS ever created, and at the same time praising Win7 so highly.
Those that have actually used both OS's for an extended period of time generally recognise that they are EXACTLY THE SAME. The only real differences are that Vistas crap sidebar is now gone, and Win7 has the useful libraries feature.
Vista was actually a pretty good OS despite the bad press, the sidebar however was always a memory hog.
@digiroka
I have Window 7 RC on a tablet pc and Vista on a home gaming machine and I have no need the feel move up to Window 7...it's fast enough...even for Crysis.
Wow, that's like saying that nearly 100% of people who previously brushed their teeth with infant's crap switched to toothpaste.
I should give Microsoft more credit. Vista was the best thing that could happen for them, since it guaranteed sales of 7 for people, unless they just gave up and went on a Mac instead.
@(Unverified) oh don't worry even the people that switched to mac will most likely be using 7 or xp at some point. Because you never see people that have windows that also have to use OSX, but there are tons of people that have OSX that have to use windows. I find it Funny how mac bashes PC's for years then brags about how they can also be a PC. Leave it to Apple to say they are the best and something else is crap and then turn around and brag about how they can also be something they claimed to be crap.
I would be willing to bet that a large number of people that claimed that Vista was crap and 7 is awesome were people that never really used or knew how to use vista or only used vista right when it came out then switched to mac (because apple caters to computer illiterate people)
when in realty 7 should have just been a big vista service pack. we have the market to blame for vista because companies pressured MS into releasing vista to early. 7 is what vista would have been if MS had waited like they should have. But people like making money so we got vista. I only had a couple of problems with vista and those were caused by 3rd party software and they got fixed.
Also when trying to claim one OS is better the other don't forget the fact that. Windows has some problems and OSX has some problems, but the difference is that Microsoft make an OS that runs not only on hardware from other companies, but also on a vast number of different hardware configurations. Then you have OSX made by apple made specifically to run on hardware sold by apple with only a few hardware configurations and yet OSX still has problems. which is funny because OSX is basically a heavily modified unix/bsd distro and unix is more stable/secure then OSX and runs on almost anything. Not to mention Apple would take a massive drop in profits if you could have OSX as a standard OS option from dell or hp.
Thanks for the downranking. Obviously no-one agrees that OSX outselling Windows 7 WOULD be a story. The installed base of Windows machines virtually guaranteed this would happen. So it is not news, in the true sense.
