It's likely that if you were told to describe what you think would happen if someone asked Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to autograph a MacBook Pro, it would go something like this:
Steve would fly into a blind fury, grabbing the laptop and smashing it against a far wall with the force of ten men, laughing as the computer shattered and sparked out of existence. He would then leap towards the young man who'd made the request and pin him to the floor, pulling out a Bowie knife while whispering that he would like to "Gut [him] like the pathetic animal he is." Next Ballmer would dash out of the room only to return with a canister of gasoline, some hairspray, and one of those long lighters, all while shouting that he would "Show the world what [he's] really made of." Ballmer would escape from this scene of utter destruction in a helicopter, but not before circling the college campus (or wherever this took place) and dumping toxic waste on hundreds of students.
But, no. He pretty much just signs the laptop. See it all happen after the break.
LOL epic fail
I bet it will be on eBay soon.
Thats because apple makes the nicest hardware and natively supports dual booting of Win 7 through bootcamp, and runs Win 7 Smooth as silk. Win 7 also runs nice as virtual machine under OSX 10.6 using parallels or the free Vbox from sun. Macbooks are clean looking, e-peat gold, RoHS, and well built. Hug glass no button multi-touch trackpads, LED displays, backlit keys, glass and metal construction; energy efficient, durable, awesome notebooks that do fetch a little extra $ apple tax action but you actually get something for your money so they are solid values too~
@cosmicinglewood
Nice coADmment right there. All those features... this might be just worst than the Magic bullet Ads. Oh well....
@Xn1nja thanks backdoor entry pirate, I happen to be an apple fan and environmental scientist; not a PR rep for apple and was simply pointing out that anyone could appreciate why Ballmer would be signing a macbook, for the reasons I listed. Put down your sauce bottle before spewing hate on a fellow technology enthusiast~ and spin that in your magic bullet? is that something you sit on for fun?
@cosmicinglewood - Apple assembles the best $900 computer hardware out there... for the low low price of $1399. I'm pretty sure its illegal to use "value" and "mac" in the same sentence, at least is should be. In any case, as long as you are happy with it connected to your Bose speaker system through Monster cables, who am I to judge personal value.
@cosmicinglewood
No not at all. Have never even thought about it.... Oh wait! You seen to know and describe the process quite well, have you?
I wouldnt be surprised ;)
what a cool guy! I love how he signed right over the apple logo. As a macbook owner (dual booted with SL and W7) I couldn't help but laugh when he did that. He probably wrote something clever above his signature too. Good sport.
One reason I like Steve Ballmer. This definitely outshines his crazy (or enthusiastic) moments. And if anyone insults him for this, go fuck yourself. A CEO that shows he can remain calm even when presented by a rival company product, and then asked to SIGN it, definitely deserves some props. Great job. Oh, and Engadget, your favoritism is showing. Might want to cover that up.
I'm pretty sure the ink on the logo will smudge pretty easily, unfortunately.
ok guys, so let me get this straight, a ceo from a big software company signs a laptop with his name and with the additional remark "need a new one?", and this fact makes a few people here hysterically happy...
... do i have this right?
@shizzledmg Pretty much with the added touch that it's like asking God to sign a pitchfork labeled made by Satan... That's how deep this feud goes...
Steve Ballmer is a cool guy.
What. It's funny.
I love it, Steve Ballmer is such a laid back guy, someone I'd love to have among my friends.
I had seen Steve Ballmer's wedding video...he seems pretty nice but no one was asking for autograph.
What a douche. Why would they do that. It's not even funny. I like both Apple and MS but this is stupid.
At least Ballmer was a good sport.
These days I won't use a PC anymore unless I have to.
That said, I have always liked Microsoft employees much more than arrogant Apple ones.
Need a new one?
Yes Steve I do (cause this one is a collectors item).
top guy
id rather have him sign a blank check to me.
I feel I should buy a windows 7 copy, to support companies that are not ran by douchbags... "apparently"
CORRRR BLIMEY MISSUS!
Check out the Double Ds on that stockbroker!
Lots of geeks i see
The funny thing is, he signed right over the Apple logo.
imagine what would happen if steve ballmer actually read what you wrote about him
