Electric cars = Joke No one will sell their current car and buy new one and lose 10.000-15.000$ to save 1000$ a year (cost difference between electric and oil)
@GoogleCEO I bought a Prius. Not to save money on gas - although in some states you save a lot more than others - but because I want do make a decision to pollute the planet a bit less. So when it finally became time to get a new car, the Prius it was.
The way I see it, my parents have done a great job of running the planet down the crapper. Caring nothing about the generation to follow, the baby boomers have taken all they could and damn the repercussions.
Although it might be futile, I'd like to think that by making better consumer decisions I can try and help make a slightly better world for my 2 year old daughter.
The saving depends on many factors. Price of fuel where you live vs Electricity costs, and Mileage driven each year. I live in the UK and drive 200 miles a day. UK fuel prices vs Electricity prices means that I would save approximately £6,000 a year in fuel (that's approx $9,000) Add in the reduced service and maintenance costs, and it tops $10,000 savings.
Too bad an incredible amount of pollution is created in creating the Prius batteries. If you wanted to be green, you should have started riding a bicycle, or purchased a volkswagon TDI vehicle
@Anatidae go save a whale while eating your veggies. btw i hate the fact that some states passed the gay marriage
but i like electric cars cause they're so quiet. these new generation morons who don't know how to really mod their cars, With their cheap exhaust that sounds like a aluminum vacuum cleaner is really annoying. Honestly why spend couple grand on turbo kits then try to save money on exhausts and end up with something that sounds like a soda can.
@Luffy DUH, NiMH and LiFePO4 are different you paint sniffer. We are not talking about Nickel here in this battery array; At lease read about the tech before talking about how eco friendly it is or not. And foreign oil has long term economic, social and environmental costs that far outweigh the carbon footprint of production for even an Electric Hummer. So either go to college and get with the program, or at least think before you post some fluff brained comments about the sustainability of the batteries. As note if you were awake, that the Prius battery is recyclable, and so are the batteries in this S model and the current Tesla. Ding Ding Ding~
This vehicle is amazing, it will be the first real electric car that consumers have access to. And for $60K or so, it is a much better deal that the other fossil powered luxury sedans in the same price class, with styling that looks like vehicles that cost in the $100K+ category.
Oh, and lets also remember that it is easier to control the emissions from a few regulated power plants stacks than it is to control the emissions of millions of privately owned vehicles.
Lets also remember that fossil fuels are finite, but we make electricity from renewable energy sources.
Lets also remember that investing in advanced technology as an early adopter pushes technology forward; have you been reading engadget at all? Ding Dong
Good Work Tesla; and poo on the dingle berries who cant seem to see the light about the future of transportation; let me give you a hint, we are going to need the petrochemicals for plastics, polymers, pigments, paints, adhesives, lubricants and other products like the inhalants you must be breathing Luffy!
Burning the oil is pistons engines is bad for everything accept oil company profits. The Oil giants have been fighting to keep the EV's down, and people who post misinformation about EV's, are only hurting, not helping the environment!
the Nook Color proved it was an undercover tablet all along, Barnes and Noble has hit back with this latest Nook as proof of its focus on one thing: reading.

Tell that to the people who spent $10-15K over sticker on a Prius to save $500 per year on gas.
