HTC Supersonic for Sprint possibly spotted in the very, very ugly wild
We've seen our fair share of unattractive leak photos in our day -- Mr. Blurrycam is an extraordinarily busy, well-traveled individual, after all -- but this might very well take the cake. What we see here is allegedly the first live shot of HTC's killer Supersonic for Sprint, a phone that we've heard would feature HD2-like specs in an HD2-like shell: 4.3-inch display, fast processor, and an unbelievably thin body, to be specific. Where the Supersonic allegedly goes off the beaten path, though, is with the inclusion of Android 2.1 with Sense and WiMAX, perfect for Sprint's budding 4G network. The site that's leaked the photo also says we can expect an FM radio and a 1GHz clock on that Snapdragon plus a kickstand, something we'd heard before. It's still not much to go on, but the fact that we're this close to falling in love with a phone that we can barely make out through thick artifacting, censoring, and a dirty camera lens really says something, doesn't it? Stay tuned -- we're hopeful the leaks are going to start flowing fast and furious on this one.
[Thanks, Jackson R.]
Update: They've posted closeups of the original shot without the masking -- still not mega high-quality, but getting better. We're not convinced it's real, but we're certainly not convinced it's fake, either.
Update 2: Our trusted tipster (the one that tipped us off to the Supersonic's existence in the first place) tell us that this is, in fact, the real deal. We'll take two, please.
Update 3: And finally it appears in the clear -- image updated above.

I don't believe it. HTC doesn't make their Android phones look like their Windows Mobile phones. Looks like a poor photoshop job.
@Peter F
Fuck windows mobile. I'm not even going to cap it because it's so shitty.
@Comment Yeah I feel the same way. Fuck windows mobile. I had one for about 29 days. Took it back and got the iPhone and never looked back.
@Ezye1313
Forget the Windows Mobile and Android for now... HTC where is the Qwerty keyboard love?????
@Peter F lets hope its real i want this bad
@Jean Marc
I want this phone too but with WinMo7, Androids great but I need a more "productive" phone not just apps and widgets. I need a phone that does it all from business, to work, to play.
@Peter F
I think this really has the design language of their android phones though, just a nicer implementation of the same old design language.
I just need a gsm version of this and I'm surely gonna buy it right away. :O *droooool*
@Peter F Ain't no sense dropped in their yet...
@Rinum009
Then just get the HD2 when it drops on T-Mobile. As for me, I'm tired of Windows Mobile. It has it place and people that love it but I can view and edit office documents and PDF's (view only though) on my Pre, I have true multitasking, a better browser, the stock email client supports exchange, and it also has a decent keyboard so work and business are covered. As far as play is concerned, did you see the article where the Pre Plus had 50 cards open and ran Need for Speed smoothly? The Pre definitely is making big strides for gaming as well so what were you saying again about Windows Mobile?
@Rinum009
@Rinum009
I would agree. I think Android has tremendous potential but that is where I'd say it is at right now. I need to be able to select what folders I sync with my exchange server. I need to sync my MS exchange calendar ( the nexus one does not support this natively). I think a choice of Android would be great but I'd like them to offer this same phone in WM as I need it for work, not to dazzle my friends.
@Rinum009
To each his own, I would much rather get it with Android or better yet webOS.
@Rinum009
than you should get the HD2 for Tmobile
@Ezye1313 Fuck an iPhone I know some friends that have one and they cant talk or do actually work on it... They can play mp3s and brick breaker really good tho
@mmafighter077 The device will be similar to the HTC HD2 and equipped with 4.3-inch display and fast processor (that still remains unknown) integrated into a really thin body. The HTC Supersonic will be running Android 2.1 and HTC Sense interface. Although rumors suggest it will run the 3.0? Interesting! More details: http://bit.ly/htc-supersonic-details
Is it weird that I feel kinda dirty after looking at this leak?
@andthemaniam
I feel a good type of dirty.
looks just like an ... HD2 (i know what you guys think i was gonna say)
i am so glad i am waiting on another phone, sorry Hero, but paitience is a virtue.
@mcfryus02
Agreed.... I have pay as you go, and was going to get a Hero soon, but I think I'm going to wait for Mobile World Conference....
I'm not on Sprint, nor do I plan to change over to them, but for all of Sprint's customers, I genuinely hope this goes to them and isn't one of those "leaks" that HTC was accused of.
I've seen Sprint's lineup. Save for the TP2, Pre, and possibly the Hero, their smart phone lineup sucks. Maybe if they can get a few good phones on their network, they can become a "major competitor" for AT&T, and they can step their game up.
Competition is always good.
@BigJayDogg3
I'm sorry but save for the iPhone on AT&T how is AT&T's smartphone lineup better than Sprints? Should I list AT&T's best smartphones and say besides those ones, their smartphone lineup sucks too?
@donatom3
It does suck. But as long as Apple has the iPhone and is letting AT&T keep it, they won't move on. I have a feeling that even after the exclusivity agreement is over, AT&T will still drag their feet in bringing other smartphones on.
I'm glad that they are getting five new (to them anyway) Android phones, but to me that seems like a half baked move to appease a few instead of them finally seeing past the iPhone.
@donatom3
no, i should be sorry! but when did an iphone ever considered to be a smartphone??? u can barely do multitasking on it. a 5 year old blackberry could.
@dark star
I'm going to have to downrank you. I absolutely hate the iPhone, but you are ignorant.
@dark star
It depends on what classifies a phone as a "smartphone". The line is very thin now between feature phones and smart phones. Some might consider as long as it has PIM functionality and the ability to surf the internet. I personally think if it has an OS whether it be Palm, OSx, Windows, Android etc. with an SDK made specific for it and true PIM functions then you can call it a smart phone. Otherwise it's a feature phone. Again, that's just me. Just because the iPhone doesn't have true multi-tasking doesn't disqualify it is a smart phone.
@BigJayDogg3
the moment is a really good phone to android o/s keyboard one of the fastest processers at 800hmz... 2 people on my plan have them and love them
wahhhhhht
why doesnt verizon do something to get more android devices onto their network, this phone looks like it could be killer.
@(Unverified) At the moment Verizon has exactly as many Android phones as Sprint which is 2, and Verizon has undoubtedly one of the best Android phones out in the US right now. Verizon has been getting better lately at not lagging behind Sprint on the phone releases.
@(Unverified)
agreed.... VZW better come out with more soon... come on bravo.
please, oh please won't Verizon eat up sprint already. Sprint doesn't cover my area at all, and then they get these random, great phones? CRAP.
@Cam
Sprint users tend to go through LONG droughts without any kind of great phones though. As much as I hate exclusivity agreements in this industry, I feel like people that stuck it out with Sprint definitely deserve SOMETHING at least. The Hero was great when it came out but it's behind the times now. Verizon and T-Mobile give you plenty of choices for Android phones, I don't see why Sprint needs to go. Coverage shouldn't be that big of a problem, don't their phones roam on Verizon towers anyway?
@Cam
In what city/area do you not receive Sprint coverage?
@Cam
Well deserved phone on Sprint. There is no such thing as random good phones. Carriers go to the manufacturers and put up to get these phones.
Well there is this speculated rendering of it. http://www.androidcentral.com/render-supposedly-shows-supersonic-wimax-and-android-30
@Patlex now that there is a render that i would possibly buy, this render not so much
No matter what new phone Sprint brings out im going to get it, cuz my "Instinct" is a Piece of Shit
@Patlex That's obviously a fake, it was a joke post.
@Patlex
Thanks for the link!
I sincerely hope the actual Supersonic retains the trackball shown in your link, as the trackball appears to be missing in the blurry photo above.
Go Sprint!
@troyboytn
You'll be happy to know that Sprint was voted #1 in BOTH voice quality and data service satisfaction by IT professionals; along with the superior voice quality, data coverage, and significant amount monthly savings over ATT, Verizon, and T-Mobile,
@Ted S
Dude, most shills also post in articles that aren't related to the company that's paying them.
In other words, Piss off.
@jon
Enjoy your poor voice call quality, sporadic 3G service, untenable monthly phone bills, and constant search for a wi-fi connection so that you can use some of the features of your dated...let me guess...iphone!
Have a great ATT day because ATT loves your $$$$$$ :)
Dear AT&T,
Get something like this.
*Thin, sexy
*Android 2.1+
*Multi-touch pretty please
*1 GHz processor+
@kpenning
I am going to say, if this does not have mutlitouch i am going to be very disappointed!
I just got a hero in October, but if this comes out with wimax and multitouch i am going to get it and pay full price.
We are getting wimax here in the next few months!
@a falling stone
If it has Sense UI, then you can pretty much say right now that there is multitouch.
@a falling stone
never pay full price threaten to leave and u always get the new contract price its how i do it @ least
@sfox8: why sense UI ? that makes it far behind any Android OS development. Sense is looking bad.
Horrible pics...
@Plazmic Flame You don't say...
@Plazmic Flame
You don't take all your pics with a 3 megapixel point and shoot with the ISO set at 6400?
@Valicore
nah, he just looked in his guitar case... and he can't spell.
