LG's Classic TV gives old CRT new legs
In these complex, digital days, it's easy to yearn for simpler, analog times -- when everything was daisy-chained coax cable and all you needed was the odd RF adapter to get your gaming on. LG is taking its customers back in time with the Classic TV, an honest to gosh CRT clothed in period-appropriate attire. While it does break with tradition slightly by including a remote control, it offers nicely tactile dials and even a set of color-matched rabbit ears, making it the perfect thing for hooking up your Famicom or watching Astroboy re-runs. It's available now in Korea, your choice of basic black or cheeky red for ₩ 249,000. That equates to about $215, but don't go looking for it in your local Caldor flier.

WANT. WANT NOW. SO SEXY.
@ThomasShaped
I can haz retro TV now plz?
I was just watching TV and some channel had their show on and they used a boarder that looked kind of like this old retro TV and the HD image was inside it... looked great, now when can TV makers just put a tiny program in that would allow you to change your boarders like an old TV, theater, fish tank, ect. this would be a much easier and fun thing to have around
@nicholiservia
do i hear a challenge

@ThomasShaped why don't they make modern tv's this cool this is much better then that borderless crap long live retro
Jesus! That famicom reminds me I'm old.
Btw, sexy TV!
@Glodokboy I still have one. Although I have no idea how I got it anymore.
I fail to see how it could possibly be useful to anybody, except maybe as a statue.
@Pies
It's handy if you want to play any light gun games at least.
@simbr Deffo, whats the size of this screen?
Nice!
I want mine with a wooden cabinet and clicky dials...
@ToniCipriani
Its funny... i have this wood panel tv that i just assumed was 30 years old or whatever because it looks tacky as hell but it turns out it was made in 1994. i didnt even know people still considered wood grain in the 90s. we need to bring it back though!
"but don't go looking for it in your local Caldor flier"
I was hoping to find it at Lechmere's
@upsidedown
I was hoping the Wiz might have it! tee hee
Looks like LG took innovation a step further and removed the power cables as well.
If it does at least 720 along with the old RF, then this would be fucking awesome for my dorm
They've cornered the market on TV props for 50s and 60s era film and television. Look for this in Don Draper's office, right next to the MacPro server where they store all their projects.
Hey, I still use a CRT TV with rabbit ears! With the digital decoder box, the image is better than it ever was on analog and looks great. Mine doesn't have a bright red cabinet though :-(
CRT is still relevant in order to get the closest to zero lag you can for games. Playing space channel 5 or beatmania on my first hdtv ruined my world.
What's Caldors??
@Palomino http://lmgtfy.com/?q=caldor%27s
I still have an HD CRT... it has the best picture of any TV in my house. (I have a 1080P and a 720P LCD also.) And I can play light gun games on it... not that I do very often as I don't have a system hooked up in there.
This thing looks awesome, though, and I'd buy it just for home decor. I've actually got a 26" LCD in my guest bedroom (which is where all my classic game systems are), and I would totally replace it with this if I could. It'd fit the classic system motif perfectly, and let me play gun games in a room where it'd actually be convenient to do so.

in the end I got a plasma, panasonic G15, it beats the pants off any LCD I could ever afford, and response time for gaming is excellent.

Long live 34" Sony XBR
Maybe Bradlees will have it instead
It's a sign that the South Korean market has evolved to the point that having the latest thing (and throwing out the stuff from last year) is no longer so important as having an emotional connection to the object. China is not there and won't be there until the current generation gets to middle age and they'll be nostalgic for Mao suits, concrete row houses with narrow winding alleys and mass produced industrial steel bikes.
can these things handle hdmi? or vga?
While I do love the image quality that a good CRT brings, this unfortunately doesn't look like one of them. Cool design though. Now can I have a 42" FullHD CRT please?
If they put modern display tech into this style cabinet I'd be tempted to purchase. I'm not interested in owning an obsolete TV, but the aesthetic is totally cool.
Can it tune to DTV channels in the US of A?
@Godfather
If its sold officially in the US, than I think it has to per fcc regulations
i found another article about this....it's only a 14" TV....pretty fail. At least they could have made it a 27" so it would be sorta useful
@TheAngryIntern
As long as you don't mind it being a metre deep...
Hawt!
That reminds me of the first TV set my family had. Of course, that one was a black and white set.
Too bad it's LG.
They don't seem to care about their products after they ship.
