With all the recent talk about the
iSlate,
iPad, iSlab, whatever... doesn't it seem like the obvious candidate for the name of Apple's rumored tablet computer is being completely overlooked? Like Apple's first phone that later came to be called the iPhone, isn't the most obvious name for an Apple tablet the
iTablet? To support the theory we decided to share the above image that we received from a trusted source and believe to be authentic. It's a picture taken of an Apple Store employee's corporate email after receiving information about the time and place of Wednesday's Apple event. While the content of the email wasn't very enlightening, note the word used in the filename of the second attachment: "itablet." Now this doesn't prove a thing. The administrative assistant who sent the mass email could have been using "itablet' much in the same way that we've been using the term
for years as a generic placeholder for the rumored device. Then again, maybe we should heed the wisdom of Occam's Razor when speculating about Apple's naming preference for a 10-inch tablet computer?
P.S.
Amtek currently holds the US trademark (and itablet.com domain) for "iTablet" and continues to sell products under that name as it has
for years. Not that a silly thing like trademark ownership could stop Apple from announcing its iPhone at a time when
Cisco owned the rights.
Update: Looks like the attached image name above, while authentic, likely originated in a post from
Pocket-lint (look at the properties). For what it's worth, the
invite image we received was embedded with a name "top.jpg." Regardless, this is probably not Apple revealing its product name in a sloppy pre-event slip-up. [Thanks, MarkNewby]

MediaMarkt in Germany twittered that the Apple iPad will be availibel in march for 499€ (with T-Mobile Contract). Sounds intresting :)

It will be called the Jesus Slate. The Jesus Slate will be merely a 2 slab of thick unibody aluminum, and engraved on it are what Steve Jobs wants you to do or not do. It will have a backlit Apple logo on the back, and the writings on the slate have LED backlit so you can appreciate Jobs' words in the dark. It will have a dock connector for connectivity to the iPod HiFi, and when connected to the iPod HiFi, it has a built-in OS X voice over feature that will read Jobs' words to you over and over. Once connected, you cannot stop or skip the playback as the words of Jobs shall be heard as is. If you try to connect the Slate to a different speaker other than the iPod HiFi, the Slate will send an electric surge, destroying that non-approved speakers as Jobs already said the iPod Hifi is the best speaker, and it's so good that he replaced his home sound system with it.
What? You expected Apple to release a tablet computer? What made you think that? :P
I hate the name iSlate! It should be iTouch though I guess iPod Touch is nick named that!
Tapple Padlet.
After all the hype, I'll laugh my head off tomorrow if they don't announce this.
Maybe the itablet will actually be Apple's introduction into the pharmceutical market?
iTouchPro
All day long Apple news posts, it;'s not the users that are creating the hype but the media. Will engadget do the same trick as with previous Apple events? play the innocent person and on the same day suddenly a hands-on news item.
iAmgoingtomakeyoureadengadgetalldayonwednesdaybitches!
To me it's the iStoppedGivingAShit
Yeah, but can it play Crysis?
Yes, but will it blend?
It would be better of as "Apple tablet".
TechCrunch has the one?

@Aldo Raine iPad sounds like a feminine hygiene product made by Apple.
MacBook Touch anyone?
MacBook Touch anyone?
Sloppy pre-event slip-ups do indeed drive traffic and thereby page views. Its a nice revenue stream. Are there any ads on Engadget? I have never seen any.

questions?
I think itablet is stupid :
When mp3 handheld jukebox came out they had no commercial name, nothing that sounded right.
Then along came Apple and its iPod.
And the name "iPod" was like free advertising all over the planet all the time 24/7
"-oh you have an iPod !
-No it's a creative/Archos/Sony"
That was pretty smart.
Now this of course doesn't apply to the iPhone because, well there were phones before (yes I assure you ..) but it does apply for the iSlate.
See in 1 year or so when everyone will be saying :
"- Oh ! you have an iSlate
- No it's a f***** Asus newTouch with Android 3.0 you stupid B*****"
Well these people will be yelling in vain because Apple will have succeeded yet again in renaming the whole market.
Only loosers and geek (=me) speak about their portable digital audio player or whatever other name you could find, the rest of the population says : iPod.
Apple or not it's an iPod for them.
And the same will go for the tablet and the iWhatever-Apple-finds-that's-better-than-tablet-because-tablet-sucks
Listen up guys..
Apple have a very successful brand in the iPod, so why try and create a new one? When they released the iPod Touch, they didn't think it necessary to invent a new name, despite it being a whole lot different to what we knew as a traditional iPod.
So, I would imagine this new thing will be called.....
iPod Tablet.
Done.

FACT: Apple Store employees will NOT have ANY information about a new product before it's official public announcement. Immediately following the press conference, stores will be sent information, facts, instructions, and details regarding the products announced. So, your dreams of iSlate, iSlave, iTab, iLuv, iEye are all still on the table... err.. tablet.
Calm the eff down, news bloggers. The event is tomorrow. I think people can just wait 'till then to get all the *real* information.
I'm a tech maniac, but even I have my limits when it comes to rumors or (false) speculation.
How about just The Apple Slate.
I don't think iTablet is an obvious name for the device. By that formula, Apple fans would be toting iLaptops, iPlayers, iMice, iTowers, and iPhones.
Oh, well, I'll give you "iPhones" :-p
Some call them TABLETS...Others prefer to call them SLATES. I made a category called "TABSLATES" The definition of a tabslate is any handheld computer larger than an IPHONE but smaller than a Laptop. Obviously Apple's tabslate will be called something else, probably IPAD. Hey we do have the domain names tabslate.com,mytabslate.com and itabslate.com available for a price....
iSlate certainly would sound better than iTablet I think. We'll just wait and see!
And here's the proof http://yfrog.com/1yuydvj
The name is iSuck. See they attached an email to a computer screen and then took a picture.
But iSuck wouldn't ever be announced like this in a silly slip up, so thanks for reading an article about nothing.
Yes=complete waste
first off. drop the iphone snark and get your facts straight. Cisco bought the mark from another company and dumped said product. they let the name wave in the air until not only had the mark expired but the renewal grace period was days from over. And then they got a courtesy letter from Apple, who were going to apply for the mark when that time was up. So Cisco in an attempt to fulfill the 'you must be using it for an actual product' rule of trademarks, announced an iphone with their 23 hour renewal (a clearly slapped together product at that) and then released theirs months after the iphone came out. the courts didn't buy it and ruled they had to share the trademark with Apple, who didn't steal it but in fact had every legal reason to believe it was up for grabs since Cisco wasn't using it.
as for the whole itablet think, I don't completely buy it. apple has been tagging products with an indication of which side of the OS line it is on, so iPod Tablet (if it is using the iphone/ipod touch os) is more likely. or Mac Tablet if it is using Snow Leopard (or a variant)
Retask the name iBook? It could happen.
iPad......iMeh....
