Nokia X6 16GB announced, Comes Without Music
Nokia's just announced a 16GB version of its crowd pleasing, capacitive touchscreen X6 to compliment the current 32GB model. As expected, the new handset offers many similarities to its sibling, including a 3.2-inch widescreen capacitive display and 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual LED flash. Unfortunately, this device is Comes with Music-deficient, meaning that you'll have to load tunes onto the device the old fashioned way (though it's not like that ever seemed like a big deal to begin with). In addition to EA's Spore, this bad boy includes Asphalt4 and DJ Mix Tour by Gameloft and an all-new Ovi Maps (with free walk and drive navigation, Michelin and Lonely Planet guides). Available in four colors, including black, white, white with yellow highlights, and white with pink highlights. Expect to see this one roll out sometime this quarter for a price to be announced.

@Swagger
Since you want to argue about this... Here is a nice thought game for you. If Nokia spent the same on R&D as Apple, it would get 6 billion more profit. On the other hand, who would then research 4G, Near Field Communications etc?
@Swagger Like Apple with poor ol'Psystar...
@Swagger Did they sue Psystar or not?
And also if you need something to refresh your little fanboy head.

@Swagger You MacHeads never learn right?
Did you read the wikipedia link?
It is very amusing how Apple scraps every dime it can... Btw, be careful on how you use your device because you might be infringing several rules. :)
ps.If you want to call me a Nokia worshiper no probs. But you seem to get very pissed off being labeled an Apple fanboy. I guess people dont like to be around you when you come trying to be all cool and dandy with your Apple notebook, phone, cap and steve jobs sex doll. :D
ps2. dont take this too seriously... i never take you people seriously anywho :D
ZZZzzzZZZzzz...
NOKIA = FAIL
they are too arrogant to even notice it, so i guess it will be a shock...someday
OMG WHY WASNT THIS POSTED EVERYDAY FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS?
Oh right, cause this is iNgadget.
@xberxinfinity
iNgadget ..thats funny lol
@xberxinfinity The X6 is the first in a new range of Nokia multimedia phones that effortlessly blend the best bits of high-end feature phones with the social connectivity and touchscreen goodness of the latest smartphones.
The Nokia X6 is, in other words, a cracking music phone with a glorious touchscreen interface, great social apps and high quality features such as a 5 megapixel camera.

Shame, I liked ComesWithMusic.
Still, the X6 is a damned good phone, no matter which way you look at it.
@CJ
It'll be a lot better at the lower price. If it's about £300 I may get one as a spare.
@MarkAnderson
Multitasking And flash is not cheap
@fighterfelix
I have both on my £180 Nokia 5800.
Maxx lame - Nokia's way these days.
What is the next Apple rumour? How can we live without a rumour :)
one of my choices for my next phone. its between the nexus one iphone and x6 mainly cause i know it wont be as friggin expencive as the ifone
@Trevsweb
Get the N1. Read All about symbian's review of the X6. Although they are just 'ok' with the N1, it was still a better rated phone then the X6. If you don't care about touchscreen's and you must have a Nokia, the E71 and E75 are still your best bets so far.
@Po Yeah by far. The E71 is a great phone, but their touch screen devices are still in need of much refinement. Also stability can be an issue with S60. Another thing, I would never depend on S60 for e-mail. It's still very poor even on the beautiful E71.
*YAWN*
"Comes Without Music"
GOOD! That means the damn thing won't be $650! That high price was because of CWM. Maybe now it might be a bit less; perhaps $500 to compete with the N1. Time will tell
I think this is s good looking phone.
Does it have HW graphics acceleration? All the new Symbian Sony Ericssons have it, as does my Samsung i8910. If Nokia included it in their Symbian phones too it would make life much easier for Symbian game developers. Otherwise they are just getting beaten at their own game.
Price of this vs. the big X6 might be one of the better indicators for the actual price addon of CWM.
I really like the idea of CWM though. Was thinking about buying one of the cheaper models, because the price isn't that bad and you get to keep the music. It would be ridiculously good if they removed DRM, but I guess that is too much to hope for.
Wow they finally doing away with their archaic keyboards. Which were so 2005.
I wonder if iPhones 3.4 billion profit has anything to do with nokia opening their eyes to the fact that a keyboard makes ur phone look outdated n less desirable. Amazing.
Once again we have here more eveidence of what jobs said in Jan of 2007. "iPhone will revolutionize the way alll manufacturers continue to create smartphones",.
@logic thinker
You mean this is the first Nokia device you have seen without keyboard?
Here is an old prototype from 2005: http://www.engadget.com/2005/05/19/nokia-concept-phone-n-gage-2/
N770 also came out in 2005.
Granted first decent touchphone from Nokia was probably Nokia 5800. But that still came out in 2008, so not really that new thing eh?
"a keyboard makes ur phone look outdated n less desireable"
Now I've heard it all. Anyway, how are enjoying your new trolling username, Truth--oh I mean, "logic thinker"?
@logic thinker You are really enjoying that iPhone daddy gave to you in your sweet 16 right? :D
@logic thinker
Oh, hello guru, truth, or whatever you're called now. Enjoy your new ban, you'll get it soon enough.
@logic thinker A keyboard is nice, but not the crappy N900 keyboard. Every test that has been done shows that the iPhone touch keyboard is faster than most of these physical keyboards. Only Blackberry and to some degree the Palm Pre have nice keyboards.
So the point is a keyboard is great but manufacturers need to make sure their hardware keyboards are really better than some of the better touch keyboard implementations out there. I can't say the iPhone keyboard is ideal, since it can annoy you at times, but when it works (95% of the time) it flies and I can type faster on it than many physical keyboards.
A physical keyboard is not something to add to the feature list, it must be designed with some consideration to ergonomics.
@sr1329
And where are those "tests" that have been done? I have used the iPhone, the N900, and the E71 and I can type much faster in the latter two. Mainly because I don't need to look down everytime I am writing something, I can do it all by feeling the keyboard and that's something no touchscreen keyboard can do.
@Goc Maybe this one:
http://gizmodo.com/5454313/the-fastest-text-input-test-laptop-iphone-pen-palm-or-newton
or this one:
http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:7r9tFnFQz3gJ:www.mobile-review.com/print.php%3Ffilename%3D/review/nokia-e71-en.shtml+e71+iphone+keyboard+site:www.mobile-review.com&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a
Scroll to the chart.
I've had the E71, N900 and iPhone, I know which one I type faster on.
@Goc Yeah right you can type without looking on an N900 keyboard. If you can do that with your exceptional propioceptive skills on a keyboard that offers about the same amount of tactile sensation as a plastic piece of glass you would be able to do so on glass. That keyboard scarcely grasps the concept of space between keys.
But you might be extremely talented. I'd love to see you type out 4 lines blindfolded. Link it up on Youtube.
@sr1329
And I know on which one I type faster and it isn't the iPhone's keyboard.
I can do it, and maybe you can't, but I don't need any validation from random people on the internet, so I don't have to post any videos to prove my statemnts to you, because I know how well I do on each keyboard.
Nice looking phone, and it could be a winner. Just don't count on reliable e-mail or for that matter the utmost in reliability in general. S60 will give you random crashes and reboots. Just go to Howard Forums and read the complaints about the N97 if you don't believe me. It's all there for your researching pleasure.
@sr1329
I have a Nokia 5800 and I don't experience random crashes and reboots. It crashed a few times on me when I had the original firmware (from back when it was released), and once I updated to the second fw release I never had another crash.
I'm sceptical that the X6 would be buggy, since its specs are similar (same processor, S60v5).
@flavioribeiro Not even when you have a lot of e-mail in your inbox? If they have gotten things to work then it would be nice.
Ineevitable.
CWM might get more subcribers with a monthly billl, even if it vomes to a higher price.
On the other hand this 16GB model might not lessen the 32 GB model sales much, if any. The price difference will be about 100€, or 150$. When on the shelf the people that can't afford 32GB model anyway will buy 16GB, and the once that can afford the 32GB model can see how much better deal the more expensive model is.
If anything it threatens Apple's profits as it floods in with a much lower price and still works for the most functions one might expect.
It's a better option than the 32GB X6 CWM. Nokia appear to have screwed the pooch again with that one by failing to undertake adequate QA and crippling the memory.
I mean, for f**k's sake, if you're selling a phone specifically on the basis it's a music phone then you better make damn sure the music player works and doesn't leak memory and crash constantly.
So, hopefully the firmware update will fix that little boo boo and they'll stick a bit more RAM in. You never know.
does it run safari?
it looks like it has safari
I'm not going to bash Nokia, I have a 5800 and I'm satisfied with it. But, had I paid more for it, I probably wouldn't be. I find it strange that a smartphone OS as old as Symbian still lacks the polish of new comers like Android, WebOS, and iPhone. Again, not bashing, just my observation based on my first hand experience with the 5800, which is my first Symbian phone.
This leads to another observation, the only reason this thing is announced today is that Nokia really doesn't have anything to say and is feeling a bit insecure and awkward while it continues to be left in the dust on the eve of a major announcement from Apple.
It's really just to say "hey, we're here, don't forget us". If they had done this after tomorrow, it'd for sure be overshadowed by Apple's announcement and not have a snowball's chance in hell of being noticed. I've been working in advertising for the last 15 years, and this is just the sort of thinking marketing execs have, rather than investing money and manpower where it really counts — the product.
Oh Nokia, I want to like you, but when you will learn that hardware alone doesn't make the product?
If it has the same processor and ram as the N97 and N97 mini, then you can count me out
I'll get another Nokia when they stop putting in underpowered processors, way too low RAM memory and the buggy S60v5 on their touch screen phones.
The N900 is a step in the right direction, but Maemo is not very mature. I'm not sure why Nokia doesn't just make Android N-series phones, and leave Symbian for low end handsets.
