Walmart greeters will soon welcome you to a Nexus One with Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T 3G? (update: nope!)
Today's Nexus One may be the hottest keyboard-free Android smartphone on the market today, but it doesn't exactly have the hottest network support. That looks like it'll be changing soon thanks to Walmart of all places, which has put up a "Coming Soon!" page for the Nexus One, listing an impressive suite of wireless bands including 1xEvDO for 3G on Sprint and Verizon and UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900 for 3G on AT&T. Could this finally be the network-agnostic smartphone (or smartphones, as the case may be) that Google has wanted, or is it just a case of some optimistic web admin letting his fingers do the walking when writing up this teaser? We're leaning toward the latter, and there's also a rumor of a $99 price when purchased at Walmart. We're having a hard time swallowing that one, too -- if only because the Droid went for $188 there at launch.

"Due to a technical error, this item erroneously was displayed on our site. We're working with our partner Let's Talk to have it removed as quickly as possible. We have no plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at this time."

Nexus One = Best thing I ever imported.
More potential Nexus One custom base = win.
tech support for nexus at walmart? you've got to be kidding! i can't even get them to put nonfat (skim) milk in the store.
when i call they tell me to call sam walton.
@usefulinfo
You'll need a SuperPsychicPhone cause I think he's dead.
wait wait wait! It's comin to Sprint??
How can you tell by looking at the Wal-Mart Nexus One page that it will be available for Sprint? Can someone tell me which band/frequency listed ties directly back to Sprint? (I don't see CDMA anywhere). Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to the 'Banding'
Also, from my knowledge when employed at Sprint, a phone's ESN (serial number) MUST be in Sprint's device database in order to work on their network. So Wal-Mart/Google/Sprint must be working together if this rumor is true?
@Accidental I'm assuming Sprint has a unique frequency range that you'd assume if a phone had support for this range, it would support Sprint or be in Sprint's device database?
I suppose it could support Sprint and/or Verizon for roaming only. Who knows!
@Accidental
Sprint and wallmart are already working together to put WiMax on the roof's of every wallmart, I don't see why they wouldn't work together in their cellphone sales department.
I think chances are better that someone at walmart.com goofed up the tech specs.
I'm surprised that no one has asked if Walmart is going to offer a better priced service plan than the T-Mobile 500 mins. for $79 per month that Google required on their Nexus page. I really like the Android OS but until I can buy a $60 unlimited plan, which is what I currently pay, I can't even consider this phone.
Whats the best network to buy a cell phone (Nexus One) on in the USA that if you end up taking it back to Canada it will work with 3G on a carrier up there. And please don't tell me AT&T....
Thanks
EVen if it will come out you cant get this phone at a Walmart store anyway because if you click on the photo the link states walmart.LETSTALK.com so therefore this is the ONLINE site to activate your phone and not the store one which they significantly carry less phone.
Unless there is some new info in the last few days that a CDMA Nexus is coming out, I do not see how Walmart can advertise the Nexus for Sprint. That I know of, the Nexus only has a GSM radio. It would be great if it did also have CDMA to use on both Verizon and Sprint thus making it truly a Nexus of the two bands GSM and CDMA.

I'm pretty sure Verizon announced they were getting the Nexus One in the Spring.
Personally, I'd love to see more companies start selling unlocked phones that work on 1xRTT/EV-DO through Verizon and Sprint *and* EDGE/HSPA through AT&T and T-Mobile. LTE is going to hopefully bring part of that to the table, where Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile will all be using the same 4G technology at a base level, but the problem here is that Sprint will be using Wimax instead. I guess we'll have to wait until 5G then? >_>
wow.... glad I returned my Nexus... last thing I need it a phone that some piece of white trash can buy at his local wal-mart...
@brown like dookie - No doubt sun! Wally World, N1, $99 bucks, any Network? Sheeeeet!!
yah, @micanuck... that would be horrible if the phone was popular and more people could buy it. I mean, it's not like they already carry all the popular phones, including smartphones/blackberries & iPhones, for AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile... Oh wait, yes they do!
Guess you'll have to crawl back under a rock or go overseas somewhere to get a phone that the common fold can't get from Walmart. Good hunting. :)
According to this article and CNBC Walmart is saying that is an error on their part and that they WILL NOT be carrying the N1. http://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-says-it-has-no-plans-to-carry-the-nexus-one-2010-1
wtf? what idiot did that??!
How does a store "slip up" and create a product page for something they will -never carry-?
I did actually get my phone from Walmart and I still regularly buy top-up cards there. I use the Straight Talk service which is very popular in Walmart at the moment. $45 for unlimited talk, texts and data on Verizon network. Great phone service at super low price. I can't see why I shouldn't support Walmart if they have the best product at the best price.
