Zune 4.2 update released, what's new?

We're receiving word from multiple early-bird readers indicating that they've received the 4.2 update on their Zunes and that, now that they're out of that nasty maintenance window, all is right with the world. That said, our tipsters are not spotting any major differences, and neither are we, certainly nothing as exciting as 4.3 brought to the Zune HD. What about you? Have you been granted access to 4.2 yet? If so, let us know in comments if you've found anything fresh and exciting. And, if you haven't, feel free to discuss the weather -- it sure has been a little crazy 'round these parts lately.

I got it 10 minutes ago and from what I can see there is no major updates in this one. Also I updated my Zune 8, nothing changed there, just an upgrade to connect to the software. No update for the Zune HD.

But hey! Maybe MS included some kind of a countdown to Windows Mobile 7, and when that timer hits zero, one of two things will happen: (1.) it will blow up, or (2.) it will be updated.

Tell you what, weather down here in Australia has been frankly insane.

Here in Brisbane, we haven't had a day below 35 degrees in a week, and worse even before that.

But, I can't feel too bad when you consider melbourne and adelaide: early january, they had highs temps in the mid 40s!

And, of course, there not a lick of rain; I haven't seen a cloud in about four days, hopefully we'll get the easter rains, or else we're back in deep drought trouble.

Wasn't there something else... oh yeah! Hurry up and release the Zune downunder, Microsoft!

You may not be able to get it from retail chains. But Mwave and mymp3 which are online retailers, do sell them.
Look for it using Staticice and Shopbot! :)

And I really want MS to officially release the Zune in Aus. Oh, and in Victoria, the weather has been quite mild, we got lots of rain last week. Doesn't feel like summer at all....

Unless I'm mistaken it now adds all video formats directly in without prior converting and will automatically convert .avi files to .mp4 so they play on the ZuneHD.

I now see most of my videos in the Zune library and my podcasts located in an library archive (running windows 7).

I like it, Zune is slowly becoming a fully functional media player.

I had the 32 bit version installed and I am running 64 bit Windows 7, it went on and converted it to the 64bit version of zune. Don't know if that's something new but Ive installed 2 updates without it converting to the 64bit version.

I saw two things:
1) The playlist logos are now black instead of pink.
2) The Zune software now sees my XVID videos and it synced them to my ZuneHD (even though they had to convert).

I wish Microsoft would frickin pull through more for their products. It really seems like they release the Zune and just.. forgets about it. I mean, I barely hear anything about the Zune. No commercials, no Ads online, no marketing at all. They really need to do better at marketing their devices, getting more users.

The new update might have something to do with the Zune feature on xbox360 / XBL. I just checked and it is down for maintenance and has been since yesterday. Oh well. I am not the biggest fan of the Zune feature anyway.

OK, whoa. Here's another one: there's apparently for real Windows 7 Library support now, which means it plays MUCH nicer with WHS.
