It really is a cool idea and a great looking product, it's just, the real world application seems so limited.
Maybe all it needs is that killer app.
Personally, however, had it run Snow Leopard, it may be a bit more useful. (and why no actual USB port? I mean seriously, we have to buy a 30pin - USB adapter now?)
What was being passed around the meeting where Jobs looked at this and said "Its perfect!"? Its gimped on several fronts and frankly the design looks like ass. That huge bezel around the screen makes it look even larger and bulkier.
Apple made a mistake here. In the past they waited until other companies had released products before developing their own. This gave them an opportunity to see what worked and what didn't and then build on it. Here they are the first major company to release this class of device and it shows. In many ways this proves that Apple isn't really an innovator but more of a company that can take good ideas from elsewhere and then slap on a thick layer of industrial design.
@LostNote I was under the impression that the 30pin was just the standard ipod dock connector. Meaning that you probably already have one of these cables.
Also, it does come with one. So you don't need to buy anything.
@superberg If you look on the /ipad website (www.apple.com/ipad/specs) you'll see that there is a 'Camera Connection Kit' i.e. Regular 30pin Dock connector to female USB. What I was trying to say was, Apple should have just put a female USB port on the iPad in addition to the regular 30pin dock connector. Capiche?
The Triumph proved to be one of the better looking and performing pre-paid handsets we'd had the pleasure of holding in our sweaty mitts, but we had one major hangup: the name.
