iPad can run all iPhone apps unmodified, new iPhone SDK out today lets developers tweak apps for iPad use

It looks like a "big iPhone," and apparently it acts like one too: the iPad can run traditional iPhone apps completely unmodified, and can even zoom them up to full screen. Additionally, a new iPhone SDK is out today to allow developers to tweak their apps for the specifics of the iPad. Of course, Apple has rebuilt its apps from the ground up for the iPad, and developers can do the same with the SDK.

What I'm taking out of this iPad thing ...

1) Could this be what the OS on the new Iphone will look like? With customizable wallpaper/backgrounds and a dock similar to OSX?

2) Could we see a design change of the iphone to mimic the iPad with aluminum backing and squared off edges?

This is a big iphone? Not anything wrong with that, but hardly creative. Just a popular product in a big size with more space and some better specs.

This will be a problem in the future as apple tries to prove this a worthy segment by keeping features from iphone. Really, everything that is good to do on this should be good to do on the little ipad.

Wait a sec here... It supports existing iPhone apps either windowed or "pixel-doubled" - are we to deduct that the resolution on that 9.7" display is 320 × 480 times 2 ? That would be a pretty ridiculously low resolution for such a product in 2010...

The fact that this is essentially a larger iPod Touch will be both it's greatest feature and it's biggest design flaw.

Being able to run the zillions of different iPhone/iPod Touch apps unaltered is a HUGE selling point for this device. People are already familiar with the iPhone and how it works. This new tablet would be a natural step up from those devices as long as it offers new capabilities.

On the flip side, those people that are not interested in the iPhone or iPod Touch will probably have zero interest in this device and thus Apple will not be gaining those people as customers.

So, iPad: No video chat (or cameras at all for that matter), no iLife, maximum of 64GB of storage, no multitasking solution, horrible app solutions, no WiFi sync (yes that means attaching a 10" device to your computer via USB, who the fuck wants to do that?)... Increased prices on 3G models for absolutely no reason, shitty keyboard... This thing is a fucking huge "NO THANK YOU".

I CAN'T BELIEVE It's still modal!!!! What a horrible idea for a 10" device!!! This is so disparaging, and it leaves me with little to no faith for a good iPhone OS 4.0.

I propose a boycott of the iPad until Apple allows Flash onto it and enables multitasking, which it seems to me are the most common & reasonable complaints that folks have been having about it. There lots of other changes that I'd like to see, but these could be done immediately and would sway me back to buying the machine.
