It feels like we just left our shutter glasses behind at CES, but already a few of Samsung's
new 2010 Blu-ray players (all featuring
Internet@TV and
Samsung Apps features) have popped up for preorders on Amazon, including the 3D playing
BD-C6900. The company just announced
240HZ 3D LCDs have begun mass production and isn't waiting for the competition before diving in, issuing the first price we've seen for one of the new players at a penny shy of $400. Moving down the line the super slim and woodgrain textured, but 2D only, BD-C7500 is also $399.99, while the speedy BD-C6500 and its promised 15 second bootup time is set for $299. The entry level and eco-focused BD-C5500 is still unpriced but instead of asking whether you can afford the price of a 3D Blu-ray player, ask yourself if you can afford not to own a Blu-ray player with a hole in the top. The answer should be obvious.
Update: Whoops, and now they're gone, disappearing from Amazon as quickly as they came. Will that pricing information stick? We'll wait for an official announcement, but they all seem probable from here.
@doboy
Of course from the point of view of customers getting free stuff is preferable to paying, but you're just speaking nonsense.
3G is one thing, and like I said, that's a marketing gimmic when Apple allows an upgrade... that's about PR.
Those companies letting you upgrade your dvd to blu-ray charge money and profit. that's just clever marketing.
No, you do not deserve a new TV for free. That's ridiculous. These companies are developing a new TV spec to make more money. Not because you deserve it. Not for social justice. Because it makes more money.
The idea that you could send in your old TV for a new one is crazy. They have been improving TVs for half a century, so you should know by now that they are going to improve on what you bought.
Here's a secret: if you buy the very best 3D TV, they will come out with something a lot better in a few years at most ... and they won't give it to you for free. So now you know. Wish someone had explained this for you earlier.
This needs to get straightened out or this will be the next wild fire to run through the internet because "one guy said it so it must be true". THE PS3 WILL NOT BE EQUIVALENT TO THE NEW 3D BLU RAY PLAYERS. Most people have only read far enough to see "PS3 will be 3D capable" and have read no further. HDMI 1.3 will be backwards compatible for 3D, which is the version the PS3 uses, but only for half resolution. Meaning it will output 1080i for 3D, not 1080P.

@RedlineRonin for the last time, since you didn't read the other comments - that post is completely misguided and wrong. There is absolutely no indication the PS3 will do anything less than 1080p 3D.
@RedlineRonin
Actually, the 1080i claims appear to be bullshit FUD.
If this is the only source for the claim the PS3 can't do full 1080p 3d, you need more of a source. I doubt you're right, and you don't have to push something so unverified in order to prevent some catastrophic internet meme.
