Alienware now shipping 23-inch OptX AW2310 1080p 3D monitor
Just a hunch here, but we're guessing that Alienware's CES stash all hit the production line at right about the same time. During the past day, we've seen the company's M15x, M17x and OptX AW2310 hit the shipping stage, the latter of which is the firm's first-ever 3D monitor. Checking in at 23-inches and boasting a full 1080p panel, this one also packs a 3 millisecond response time, 120Hz refresh rate and stereoscopic support when NVIDIA's GeForce 3D Vision Kit is utilized. It's up for order right now at $469, but if you follow that Logicbuy link down there, you'll be able to snag it (for a limited time) for $449.10. Too bad that 3D kit will set you back another $200, but hey, no one said that witnessing the third dimension was cheap. Or remotely interesting. But mostly cheap.

balls! i just bought an LG 23 incher....
@skyblaze
Can't have a 23 incher without balls!
@skyblaze
Same here!!
FUCK
I hope they let people know they won't actually see the character's head pop-out outside the bezel
@00iEye00
Did you HAVE to mention the stupid iPad in a totally unrelated post??
@00iEye00
you're so against it, having an icon, bashing it on unrelated articles, that it almost makes you a fanboy
@JeremyBenthem Besides, who would want to get poked in the eye in a rusted shovel?
Not me mister!
@JeremyBenthem I was going to say exactly that!
All the time I'v been listening to EGHD podcasts in particular, I've been thinking it's not glasses-less 3D I want, it's extension beyond the screen - slightly.
It's all very well being immersed in the scene, but what is supposedly a 3 dimensional scene suddenly ends, I just can't imagine it looking quite right.
Of course with good camera work, not cutting objects off the edge of the screen, you won't notice too much - but it won't always be possible!
@JeremyBenthem but hey that could be the only new feature of a 3Dized version of something that is already full 3D.
The Acer is also available! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009222
Also, a user has already posted a review of this new Alienware display. Unfortunately, he was not impressed. He was also unable to compare it to other 3D displays because he did not have access to them:

@Smurf
Damn, they charge $600 for the Acer monitor in my country. It's daytime robbery.
No iPa.....forget it.
In Soviet Russia, the Horde Melees YOU!
@00iEye00
This post had absolutely nothing to do with Apple. How about you complain about it AFTER you actually try it?
That monitor actually looks pretty nice in style. For PC gaming 3D really isn't a gimmick it just adds a little and it's optional.
I don't mind 3D as long as it stays optional, plus when adapted well it works.
Will this make my porn 3D or does the porn have to be 3D compatible content? Just asking....
@formetopoopon oh damn i havent thought about this. Now i have to get a 3D monitor.
@IvanP91 When the 3D TV's roll out, 2D to 3D converter boxes will be made available. Apparently, they use brightness to determine depth. That should be real interesting for...
However, it's just like the current 120hz / 240hz / 480hz... it's just a special effect. It's glitchy and there's nothing you can do to make it perfect.
@formetopoopon Good news, you have options! It will make the Virtually Jenna games 3D. And a filmmaker is going to a 3D 'erotic' film - http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3i662cd5cc93e73343b847af9b6d6f0fca - There is of course tons of blue/red porn and stereoscopic porn that you need to cross your eyes for. Porn really embraces the third dimension.
Would be excited that it isnt something about iPad but as I know, the next post will break my hopes in two..
@AlienSix
It's all about the iPad for you, isn't it?
Expensive...... will wait till it's mainstream.
When will the M11X make its way out of the production lines? I really am looking forward to it.
Slightly off topic question so downrank me if you feel you have to but..
George Lucas announced recently that hes been looking into making Star Wars 3D. My question is how the hell would he make a 35 yr old film 3d? anyone ?
where's all that extra spacial data going to come from, did he secretly actually record it in 3D in the 70's in hopes this tech would eventually happen ?
Thanks
@Firesuite, those are probably ran over by a software and then edited by hand to bring out the important parts nearest to the screen. Plus if you have noticed when they remastered parts of the moves they replaced some of the parts with full 3D, like the fight scene in the pit with the rancor is very noticeable.
@Templarian
You basically recreate the scenes as a 3D scene (unrendered CGI scene) and that will allow you to render depth for the other eye. That's how they did it with Nightmare Before X-mas.
3D, 3D, 3D!!!! I'm not against 3D but can we concentrate on other features too?
I'd like better picture quality and LARGER screens! 36" would be nice - not some TV pretending to be a monitor but a real computer monitor with a fantastic picture.
@boe, past a 30" monitor it becomes a strain on your neck. It sounds good in theory, but just doesn't pan out.
when POV AV comes out in 3D people will watch it live
Forget 3D, being able to FPS game at 120Hz alone is worth it.
Its like the CRT days all over again!
I can't wait until this tech fad is over with. Well, at least I hope it's a tech fad.
"Not remotly interesting"
Obvious sign that Darren Murph has never touched 3D vision which is what this monitor is for. As an owner of 3D vision I can simply say that 3D is definatly a way forward. It makes the shit games even enjoyable, it makes old games again injoyable and it makes great games brilliant.
Engadget before making judgments try actually using something first. Try playing RE5 with 3D vision then come back and say "Not remotly interesting" because I can say its definatly more interesting then the fucking ipad
@MaxL
I think some people out there will talk 3D down for the rest of time because regardless of how well it can be utilized and executed, they simply resist change. I have 3D Vision and everyone I know of that is a skeptic, they change when they try 3D Vision when they are utterly blown away. The Avatar game shows how you do a 3D game right. I'm sick of people resisting AN OPTION so much. You can always still game in 2D.
Is this supposedly gonna provide the same experience as that with the upcoming 3D LCD/LEDs?
Let's see it beat my Sony GDM-FW900.
I've been waiting for decent 3D monitor options for a while now. This sounds pretty promising. Has anyone seen a decent review yet?
What's the gamut? Does it have >100% NTSC like that professional HP panel I'd buy if I had the money?
Honestly, the only way I'd ever switch to LCD for my desktop monitor is if I got one of those panels.
@jgp

Maybe I lucked out, but despite the fact that Acer is a bit of an ass brand, I have a 24 inch with HDMI and DVI, and its 1080p, aka 1920x1200 resolution.. and it was $399 3 years ago.
I need to buy a 24" 1920x1200 monitor before they go extinct.
