Wish the iPad ran Android. It has such great hardware. But meh software :(
Come on Hacker community! I believe in you!
@Teslanaut now cmon, can android do magic ;)
@unwynd No, but the Magic can do Android ;)
@frauhottelmann lol
@Teslanaut iPad has ok hardware. The screen is nice. The main chipset is nice. The chassis isn't bad, isn't unbelievable either though.
BUT! No upgradable storage or easy access to external devices via USB. No GPS. No cameras. No removable battery (sigh).
I will say, a lot of other vendors don't ante up and put in nice class. Take heed other slate developers - please use nice LCD screens. It is amazing how much the screen and a nice case changes people's belief that the rest of your hardware is worth anything.
Back to the iPad. I think, like the iPhone, the iPad 3.0 will be much better hardware. Just got to wait it out.
@Anatidae +1
thats name of the game, just wait it out!
@Anatidae Remember. It's not a phone.
'iPad has ok hardware. The screen is nice. The main chipset is nice. The chassis isn't bad, isn't unbelievable either though.'
Compared to what I saw during various coverages of CES, there isn't anything that's intriguing than the iPad :\ Most others seemed... Still in very early Alpha. Example, HP's slate. They need to thin that up. Leneovo's U1 is a nice idea, but still needs lots of work.
'BUT! No upgradable storage or easy access to external devices via USB. No GPS. No cameras. No removable battery (sigh).'
Again, remember. It's not a phone. And at the same time, not a computer. It's in between. Taking the chipset and battery from a smartphone, married with the large screen of a notebook computer. It's really hard to see what it is. Are you seeing it as a Laptop tablet? Or are you seeing it as mobile device but bigger?
'I will say, a lot of other vendors don't ante up and put in nice class. Take heed other slate developers - please use nice LCD screens. It is amazing how much the screen and a nice case changes people's belief that the rest of your hardware is worth anything.'
I'm really hoping that Apple's iPad offering will push more developers into making better devices, make them step up their game. Offer different sizes too. From 3 to 5 to 7 to 11. (For some reason, Odd numbers fit best)
@Teslanaut
The chipset is the only thing I like about the iPad.
Thing is, the iPad tries to be both a MID and a laptop, and it fails at both because it's being pulled in two directions. I have no need for such a device, as I have already have a MID (N900) and a laptop (T61). I use my N900 when I'm out of the house but still in town, and I use my T61 when either I want to use a computer from some part of my house other than my bedroom or on the rare occasion I'm out of town and in a hotel room. The iPad is too big to carry around on your belt like a MID, and it's too small and too crippled to be useful like a laptop.
SPRINT!! Hero android update???
@Anatidae Where do people get that the iPad doesn't have GPS? It actually does. http://www.apple.com/ipad/ official specs say it does.
@sodaboy581 Assisted GPS is not the same as regular GPS. It uses cell towers and wifi to triangulate.
@geohsia It is regular GPS, but uses cell towers etc. to improve speed. AGPS also uses the GPS satellites.
Cool, my friend has been waiting for this!
I'm still waiting on SOME kind of announcement for 2.1 on the Droid!
@wesley anthony
I want ERIS updated to 2.0! Verizon store told me it's coming "sooner than you think" ... but no details. Who knows if he had any real knowledge.
htc's sense for android is such a beautiful interface. i only wish their sense for winmo was as pretty and widgety, but i'm sure it's hamstrung by winmo, not by their creativity department.
@oakie Could you BE any more ignorant?
WinMo can be made to look any way you want it to be. HTC's WinMo UI has always been about sliding tabs. They're just going in two directions for the two platforms.
If you want "widgety" and multiple desktops on WinMo, take a look at SPB mobile shell.
@Herr Synnberg
Actually, I'd like for HTC to create a UI for both WinMo and Android that somehow combines both sliding tabs and widgets. Ideally, the UI will be so identical between the platforms that you shouldn't even be able to tell whether the device is WinMo or Android unless you either try to install an app or delve deep into the OS internals.
@jgp At that point, they might as well make a sense OS.
@B3astofthe3ast
I wouldn't mind seeing that.
Hang on... So is this for the 32B mytouch and Vodafone UK models or for the 32A with more RAM that everyone else seems to have?
@tristyb
Its for the 32a, i dont think it comes to 32b, as that is an google experince phone.
@martinsikjaer
Ahh thanks, that will teach me to trust anything described as an experience again...
@tristyb
You can still trust Jimi
or you could have already been using sense thanks to the genius of GyD on XDAdev
@tristyb : only for the 32a.
This rom is available for a week on xda (with root etc…)

Enjoy update 32a Magic Users ^^
OK, I'm running a "with Google" branded HTC Magic on SFR in France. I chucked my serial number at the site and it said that the download wasn't suitable for my phone. What gives?
@el tony same situation here in Italy with Vodafone "with google" frack
@el tony
same here.. vodafone italy :(
@el tony @wizzardo "with google" it's a 32b, to be sure, start you phone in fastboot (hold down volume down and power , you'll have a white screen with your phone version)
@JapAC I konw :-(
@JapAC same problem with TIM - the 32a is with no brand.....
@wizzardo I think TIM is 32a, check your fastboot ;)
What if HTC tells me that the update isn't available for my device ? :(
Pfftt .. this is the last time i am buying a mobile phone from a carrier . (Unlocked is the standard here ...) .. My phone didn't even have the Market :(
@sibahi if you are on 32a you can use the custom rom i linked before. Where are you from?
@JapAC I am in Saudi Arabia ...
The thing is , I don't want to root my phone .. I find it creepy .
@sibahi
It's probably more creepy if you DON'T root your phone.
@wywywywy I would totally pay an expert to root it ..but i won't do it myself . Gimme an installer or something like that ROM updater and I am in ...
(I don't like risks ..)
Oooo.... pretty.
@el tony, just play a bit with the serial numbers - that should work ;)
@MilO81 Annoyingly, the HTC phone sync software won't even recognise the phone, so serial tinkering probably wont do anything. I'm running XP through VMWare Fusion on Snow Leopard, but it just won't recognise the phone.
Well, if my old Hero was anything to go by then enjoy your lag everyone!
@martynmcfarquhar Actually GyD Rom is fastest than last official Hero rom ^^
@JapAC
I had the latest MoDaCo custom ROM on mine, which was touted as the fastest and most stable of the custom ROMs.
Sure it was faster than the stock stuff, but it still lagged, especially in stupid places like the application drawer and important places like the keyboard. And when the thing switched to WiFi or 3G the whole device slowed to a crawl.
Sense just needs more powerful hardware (not great for a mobile OS skin). Unfortunately I didn't like Android either so it was never really the device for me, but despite what people keep saying these ROM updates haven't solved the lag problem they have reduced it!
@martynmcfarquhar Android 2.1 + HTC kernel .29 seems to be fastest. In my case i don't have lag in drawer, but in big sms thread the keyboard is laggy.
I use smsBackup to save my sms on gMail and delete threads ^^
@JapAC
I think I was just sick of jumping through hoops to get the Hero working how I wanted to!
Haha, each to their own I guess ; )
That's the best looking Sense I've seen yet! Finally something different than the flip clock...
@micanuck It's the same Sense, the flip clock is just one widget.
I really like the Android 2.1 UI and the general direction its taking.. I prefer the stock 2.1 UI over sense..
so how do i get this on my tmobile mytouch 3g?? theres gotta be a way
how do i get this on my mytouch 3g on tmobile?!?!?
