Michael Dell pulls Mini 5 Android tablet from his parka, offers to put one in yours in 'a couple of months' (video)
Hot on the heels of us thinking maybe the Dell Streak / Mini 5 was possibly due for a name change to the "M01M," a roving heckler from TechCrunch managed to catch the man himself, Michael Dell, on the street and get a quick demonstration of the thing -- which he with no uncertain terms referred to as the "Mini 5." He swiped through a number of home screens and quickly showed the five megapixel camera on the back, mentioned 3G wireless, and then tucked it away again. No price was given, but the biggest news is confirmation that it's coming out in "a couple of months," which is something of a surprise given the company was still calling it a concept just a few weeks ago. Video of this choice encounter is after the break.

Heh, maybe this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/bags/918a/
or this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/bags/9190/
eh?
@NiKoLaSm
I personally would choose the belt holster because it STRAPS AROUD MY LEG!!!
LOL I love techcrunch, funny dudes. "We're here with one of dell guys" *camera pans up to Michael Dells face* "you're a salesguy over there or something?"
Lol: the Dell Mini 5 is too small, the Apple iTablet too large..
I guess there's no way to please everyone =)
its gonna be on AT&T

Check out the hands on video, in the first few seconds it clearly states on the front screen: AT&T SCREEN LOCKED
somebody please tell me. it has 3g as in the iPad or 3G as in it actually can make calls, sms, mms? does anybody know????
@TexasLogic
This is a GSM 3G phone, do not continue to compare it to teh iPad.....I'm getting to old to correct everybody about this phone...
I want to carry a tiny 3G candy bar cell phone with a good camera, then carry this when I need more mobile-rifficness.
Considering the options, I don't think that the iPad will face competiton.
It's more like it will be gang raped by them.
I bet it has Flash...
WSJ just noted that it will be $1037. In that case, the iPad is a better deal.
@HDD
There is no way that device is $1037. The WSJ is wrong. It's a slightly larger Nexus One. It has to be cheaper than that.
@d3sc3nd3ncy A few outlets are reporting $1000 to $1100 unsubsidized. Could be wrong.
@HDD
That's the price that guy said he bought one for on the black market. I seriously doubt it will cost that much. A large screen isn't /that/ expensive. I'd say 550-700 max.
Well, there is a simple way I don't know why apple didn't go that route.
I have an iPOD touch, and I love it. Bur for browsing and email I would often want it a tad bigger. What's apples problem with offering a few screen sizes? like 3.5 (the iPOD/Phone) 5 or 6" and finally 10" as in the.
Better yet 3.5, 5 7 and 10. All with one ap store and concept.same hardware if you like, just different screen sizes.
I sure don't want a 10" monster
The Dell Mini 5 looks al right, but It's a bit think and clunky I reckon.
M.
The thing looks great!
Does anyone know what kind of parka that is? Looks comfy.
I don't know why so many people are confused. He said 3G right in the fracking video, (right after "5 megapixel camera"). And running android, count me in so hard.
Ok, so this looks awesome! I'm willing to get rid of my OQO for this but I don't want it if it goes with AT&T. I mean seriously, their network went to complete crap after getting the iPhone and now I'm hearing that this iPad is exclusive to them as well. Putting this 5" Mini on them would just put their network straight to hell! If VZW got this, I'd definitely get it jst to use the Internet on rather than my BlackBerries!
Apple was focused on creating that "3rd device." I think Dell has it right (read: improving upon/replacing two devices, i.e., cell + smartphone &/or mini).
For me I HAVE to have a QWERTY - watching folks hunt and peck on the iPhones and other devices is like fingernails on the chalkboard!!! If this device has a multi-touch screen, then it is certainly worth a look!!!
Can't wait to see the final iteration of this device and all the geeky tech specs.
It has front and back cameras! Looks nice.
WOW!!
Silky smooth transitions, looks sweet!
SOLD!
Can't wait to ditch my boring iPhone!!
- the iPad is dead, long live the Dell mini5!!!
this is not a tablet.
I have been waiting for a android PMP! Finally, someone has caught on. Android is making a comeback. Let's hope Dell, prices these fairly. I'd pay $300'ish for this. Maybe even $200 for a 8GB or 4GB model. 3G too!!! Awesome!
You all you Apple haters wonder why there is so much hype about new Apple products when they are announced. This article is about a future Dell product, but half your post are just to bash Apple. Do you not see how you are the cause of your own agony?
I have come back and watched this clip like 20 times since its been posted I think I'm falling for it.
Do want
That video was hilarious. "NO!"
Device looks pretty sweet, too.
Michael seems like a swell guy but he doesn't know how to market a product any more. He keeps slipping us shiny new things in a kind of off handed way (think Adamo). So, even if this device can do it all, it will hit lower sales marks than if he had given it the presentation it truly deserves. Which tells me that his heart is not really into it. He has become a follower, not a leader. Another bottom line guy. He's pushing sales off another guy's handiwork. Some guy or two at Google. You have to really lead the way. Anyone ever heard of a guy named Steve Jobs? Mike should swallow pride and give him a call.
