Mitsubishi to introduce preposterously large 149-inch OLED TV at ISE 2010
Yeah, you can snag a TV larger than this, but good luck finding a 150-inch set with an OLED panel. In a presumed effort to quietly exert superiority over those "other guys," Mitsubishi is purportedly planning to unveil a 149-inch OLED TV at ISE 2010, which kicks off in earnest next week -- though, we have to say, we sure hope it's not one of those modular units that we saw at CEATEC. Unfortunately, the native resolution of just 1,088 x 640 is downright boring, but we're forcing ourselves to focus on the positives here. Essentially, something like this wouldn't have much use outside the world of digital signage, but man, talk about making an impact on to-be customers. So, Mitsu -- when's the 1080p 4K version coming out?
Update: Ugh -- looks as if this will be based around the modular technology we spotted at CEATEC. So much for our hopes and dreams.

Great, that resolution should be more than enough to play some old-school NES on! Does it work with the light gun?!
@Hexydes
Or Halo 3 natively.
Apple, are you seeing this? I want you to put this in an iMac and soonish. Try to keep the price under $3000 if you can. K thnx.
@Hexydes
I think a Lite Brite has better dot pitch.
@Steve2000 nobody gives a crap
that's it. i'm going to have nightmares now of giant sunflowers destroying the world.
The border is thinner than the iPad's.
@TSIG NERDGASM!
LOL! :)
Their 149 inch TV isn't even 720p?!
@Nitesh Its exactly MW2 resolution!
@Cheesus Crust
not if you play on a pc :)
It's just like the TV in Future Marty's house in BTTF2!
@MarkB
McFly! Hello McFly...
Those movies were awesome...
By the way, it's 2010. Where are the hoverboards? It's not like we're asking for time machines that run on garbage, just hoverboards. Is that too much to ask?
An astounding 8.5 lines per inch...
With the resolution of a netbook!? Whoa...
It looks identical to the one at CEATEC. Same lighting, same sign above the display, same set up, same two women (although one has new clothes and a new hair style).
@cwalters74
For $4,000 you can get a projector, an electric screen and a kick ass surround sound with a matching Lay-z-boy recliner with a stock mini-fridge and 2 Asian hookers.
Do the math...
@cwalters74
Oh nevermind it's way more than $4,000... Well then you can get all that stuff and more for the low low price of....
@PlatinumSkeet
In fact, forget about the projector, screen, chairs and the fridge.
Lets put the iPhone OS on it! Everything is better with a little iPhone OS right?
@Xeno
Well the resolution's as bad as an iPhone's is.
The title at the top of the screen (in Katakana) includes the phrase "scalable display". Any idea what that refers to?
@Blaine Yeah, it works like the displays they use in billboards and stadiums. It is essentially comprise of small square displays that hook together to for a seamless looking larger display. The ones on stadiums and such use LED arrays, this one uses OLED. So literally they could slap as many of them together as they can afford and make as big of a screen as they could drive. Ever wonder how stadiums manage to have a super long narrow display the wraps a complete 360 degrees around the stadium? This is how.
Here's a thought: How bout using some of that "show-off" money on R&D so that we can finally get OLED TV's on the market?
@Krahnos
here's a thought, lets show off our product to get more investors so we can get funding to penetrate into different markets.
Cut it into 4 pieces and send one to me please!
@TMC actually it is made out of pieces, that's why it is scalable
Get this TV and your neighbors will hate you because every time you switch it on the whole block will undergo a power outage. ;)
@muol
Ah, see, they thought of that; whole reason it's OLED is to keep power draw reasonable :D
Seriously ! What's up with the Resolution Mits ??
Give us the freakin' 4K version already !
@Ameen It is made for large scale signage, and as such can be low resolution. As it is, this is way higher resolution that the stuff it would be replacing (grids of discreet LEDs). If they went any higher resolution, it would be not only expensive, but extremely difficult to have a system that could drive the content. Think of it this way, if they scaled it up to a 100 ft stadium screen, the resolution would be so high that it would take a hell of a video card just to drive it, all to show instant replays to people 100 ft away that aren't close enough to see any benefit from higher resolution.
@RandomGuy
Wasn't josh in that video of the ad-displays in new-york "hands-on with times square" talking way higher resolution?
@staticjethro and you can't watch it in daylight. Projectors are awesome for some nighttime movie watching, or a basement home theater, but when it comes to watching while the lights are on, Plasma or OLED would be far superior.
A bajillion-inches of screen and nothing to watch.
@HardToBelieve
Except the Attack of the 50' Woman.
/or pr0n
It has higher resolution than real life!
Why not just round it up to 150?
@Hydraulics
Not round up - I meant why 149? Should have just made it a full 150. Or turn the bezel into the screen as well.
@staticjethro
How much TV & movies do you watch? That is 8 hours of TV per day for a year.
Now, if your computer was hooked up to it...
Yeah…except it's each panel (that you mention in the update) that has a resolution of 1088 x 640. And they're 10cm^2 panels. Which someone who felt like doing math today said was 108 panels. So the actual functional resolution is kind of insane. Like above 100,000 x 64,000. I understand it's just modular, but at least let it keep its strong suits. Like the most effing insane resolution ever.
@Crabs Thank you. Some people are very dumb haha
@Crabs
well suddenly this screen is a lot more impressive, thanks for clearing that up
Oh brilliant, another TV that can't fit through my door.
@Koneck actually it can. Just assemble piece by piece. Or take off the roof and place it where you want it.
They should release a modular HDTV set, so every year I can upgrade it with a new set of panels
i wonder if it has a dvi/vga port ._.
24 of these + ati's eyefinity and oh dear nerdgasm
