Nexus One experiencing nationwide data outage? (update: it's back!)
Well, Happy Friday to you, too! We've been inundated with tips from perturbed Nexus One users across the country (and even in Puerto Rico) suggesting that their T-Mobile data coverage is completely out of commission. As you can see above, our own Josh Topolsky is seeing the error in Brooklyn, NY. Some users have reported that their SIM card pulls down data when swapped out of the Nexus One and into another handset, and both T-Mobile and HTC tech support centers have purportedly been slammed. At the moment, no one really seems to know what the issue is, but we have seen some reports from owners that their data is coming down just fine. So, what say you? Let us know what's going on with your Nexus One in the poll below.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: As of 12:54PM ET, it seems that data is back in action for Nexus One users. You should probably try rebooting your phone if it's not.

| Yep! All's well here! | |
|---|---|
| Data has been in and out -- kinda wonky, if you ask me. | |
| Data has been down all morning. My life is falling apart. | |
| What?! Blade Runner is out of print?! |

Mine has been down since 5:00am, called T-Mobile and was told I was on the wrong data plan... I think that is a bunch of BS but I haven't had a change to try it after I called them.

*chance
@blindguymcsqueezy
What was your phone before the nexus one? I'm curious to know which data plan you had. I've had no issue but since i came from a blackberry I made sure to change my data plan from a blackberry web to an Android one.
@blindguymcsqueezy
My wife was having internet issues and her line has the $19.99 Total Internet plan with an unlocked Nokia E61i.. My G1 line has the android plan and it's been working flawlessly all morning.
So it seems it's not completely N1 related...
@hfm
Forgot to mention we were both on the upper east side of NYC when this happened..
working fine here listening to last.fm now.
@Zombait
Mine was down this morning in Atlanta, but its working again now. It was like a 2 hr outage, relax people (fanbois)... its not garbage.
@Zombait
Mine is fine as well here in Los Angeles area. Actually... it seems to be launching websites as fast as my laptop, on 3G...
working fine in Chicago
@kest009
same here, no problems at all today.
My G1 is working just fine... as far as 3G goes, anyway lol
I guess we will be seeing less iPhone/ AT&T reception jokes from now on. :)
@One Love
Nah, the Internets is a whiney bunch of ninnies they never stop.
does engadget post a news story when the iphone service appears to be down ever?
@doubleu No, because there has never been an instance where iPhone users experienced a data/service interruption that didn't also affect every other type of phone on the provider's network. IOW, it's only ever been down when the cellular data network itself has been down.
If you're fishing for the imagined Engadget bias, you better move on to more promising waters.
@Cromagazine No it's because when there is a problem with the Iphone all the apple fanboys close their eyes, click their red ruby slippers together and chant ...... It's all AT&T .... it's all AT&T.....it's all AT&T.
HTC rep told me that T mobile updated their service last night and that is what causing the outage.
Oh, and the outage is only for the Nexus One
From what I've been reading, this only affects the Nexus One. Mine's been down since I woke up this morning.
Most of the people with N1's who reported it working had their wifi on. Once they turned that off, it stopped working for them too.
Rumor is, the 3G patch Google was sending out failed.
I have two bars and 3g coverage but am getting the same message. Maybe this is related to the OTA update that we are getting soon?
I really hope these issues get ironed out prior to coming over to Verizon...
I've got the same screen as shown above. For those who think all is well, make sure you turn off wifi before testing (speaking from experience). This stinks. Whenever I call T-moble, they tell me I'm on the wrong data plan, but it always worked so I never changed it...
not working in OH. hopefully either t-mob or htc comes up with a fix for this soon. i need gps for my cleveland brewery tour today!
@nailedtonothing
In Columbus..nothing here
@mutalemwa i knew i should have never left sprint!
@nailedtonothing
LOL.. Hopefully they'll find a quick fix before our Exodus..
@nailedtonothing yeah, if you'd stayed on sprint you'd have the webos Engadget app on the Pre which is worth 14,000 android apps. ;-)
@nailedtonothing I stay with sprint bcuz they don't really have these issues. Just wish they had a killer phone coming out...cough.... HTC supersonic....
working fine in d.c. as far as i can tell. don't get good 3g at my desk, but it was working this morning.
B00m roasted!
Working just fine outside of DC in Rockville Maryland
Yeah they said i needed an Android plan..after switching ..nothing the rep gave me Google N1 Customer # 1-888-216-4736 citing it's their problem now.
Miami FL here. Data working just fine on my HTC Touch Pro 2.
@Emiliano
Affects N1 only.
@mutalemwa I know :)
@Emiliano - Then why comment?
@MRCUR because he fuckin feels like it.
Working fine in Phoenix as well..
@pds
Phoenix is up, but since yesterday I've noticed it to hang quite a bit when I search for anything.
Having this same issue here in Virginia
Mine is working just fine. Just browsed around on Engadget via my Nexus One, hit some pages that I knew wouldn't be cached, everything is working fine.
NOT working in Warrenville, IL (western Chicago suburb). Works fine when I'm on WiFi (obviously), but after turning WiFi off I get the same error message as in the picture.
Boondocks in MA, only on 1G, but working fine. Same data plan carried over from my G1.
maybe its a sign that an OTA update for the 3G issue is coming out soon. here's fingers crossed for that.
@El Jefe I dont think you own one from that statement. I have had mine since day 1 and been inlove ever since. Minor bugs here and there but definitely solid phone. Only garbage I see here is your statement.
Wow, c'mon superphone! somebody put krytonite in your shorts!?
My nexus one is on the same message
I am worried though that this may not be an outage but to stop people who are buying the unlocked nexus and using it with the cheaper Tmobile data plan
They may be forcing people to have the android data plan using this.
@sycamore714
If so thats BS..
@sycamore714
I bought mine unlocked and went with service on TMobile. My account says I have the android plan, but my data is down too.
@mutalemwa
Nope, I'm on the contract free plan on an unlocked N1 and I have no issues with my data right now.
