The Best Tech News is on Engadget .... =)
IPad is the best !! can be an e-reader device n entertainment... multifunction........
Its a green technology ... I LOVE GREEN TECHNOLOGY ..
@miqi Oh I thought you said multitask... cause it surely can't do that.
Ok, I can tell that most people here are Apple fans. How else could Apple's products be winning by such a large margin in the polls? I don't mean to insult anyone, but that just really bugs me, to say the least. Now, I don't mean to insult any Apple users out there, but here's an example of what I mean. At the time I posted this, in the best laptop category, the MacBook Pro has 1652 votes, while the HP Envy 13 and 15 (I'm using these as an example because the HP Envy 15 is a high-performace laptop). In what way is the MacBook Pro worthy to be the "Laptop of the Year"? Not that the MacBook Pro is bad or anything, but it didn't really change much from the last version, and it definitely was not a revolutionary laptop. While, the HP Envy 15 has a Core i7 processor, 1080p 15.6 in. display, up to 16GB of RAM, dual hard drive slots with HDD and SSD options, an easy-to-swap-out slice battery (which I admit would be necessary for this laptop), a DirectX 11 compatible graphics card, and a Quick-Boot OS. Compared to to the 15 in. MacBook Pro's specs on Apple's website, how is the MacBook Pro the "Laptop of the Year"? Once again no offense meant, and I'm not saying that the MacBook Pro is bad or anythinmg, but it's not really revolutionary. Just my opinion.
Best GPS device and no Nokia free GPS phones?
@cristian Ovi maps navigation wasnt released until Jan 21 2010, so its definitel not in the running for any 2009 awards...unless it went back in time.
This is such a farce. The ignorant have no idea but the people who have actual intelligence know better. I like how Nilay has an excuse for everything and defends everything Apple. Hey your fanboy is showing, you might want to tuck that thing away! I know you'll defend this by bringing up some sort of link or another lame excuse. Just tell me this. What phone do you use and what notebook do you use? I think the answers will speak for themsleves.
Why not change the websites name to Apple Gadget? 90% of the news is Apple related. If I am wrong may Steve Jobs strike me down with lightening........nope nothin'.
@jroff The results would be the same too. Just sayin.
@AlienSix
“We don’t know how to build a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk.” Steve Jobs.
Even Steve Jobs thinks the iPad is a piece of junk.
lots of (i think) misplaced apple love this year, the apple mouse better that the best mobile laptop mouse ever? i think not....among others
February 20 is a Saturday...
Viewed, and voted from my N900, while torrenting and listening to Pandora in the background. 'nuff said.
@aeth Seriously just ban AlienSix already, he's just a troll.
It's funny how you can tell that there's a bit of an Apple bias. So funny, in fact, that I don't think the fanboys read the category. They see an Apple product and vote for it, even if it's in a "worst" category.
How is the yellow-tinged iMac winning desktop of the year? Apple knows about the problem but just wants their customers to ignore it. Faulty product = best of the year?
Engadget and Nilay Patel get my vote for being the biggest failures at poll making =P
Palm pre should definately get the smartphone of the year. You just have to use it to know this...
This whole poll is bogus. For one, due to Apple's policy with their products, in which they make one model and manufacture it themselves, much of the poll is slanted in their favor.
Take the Desktop category. A whole load of PC choices, one Apple choice. Plus, most people don't even know what model of desktop they're using or they build their own. The iMac, though? Easy to recognize in that list. Then there's "Thermaltake Level 10 case." A case? Try adding in a Mac Pro or two and watch as the category suddenly gets more competitive.
And why the Cowon D2 and not S9?
Lastly, how did the HD2 make in into gadget of the year when it's a "tragedy" or whatever you guys called it. Believe me, I'm not against it being there, but it seems kind of odd, like when a music magazine trashes an album at release but then suddenly that album becomes popular and respected so they put it on their top 10 albums year-end list. Or think Ben Lyons.
Increadible, the data is skewed in some instances! What could it be...nominator bias, company bias, nominee bias, poll holder bias, or a wrong comparison setup? Take the GPS device as an example, extreme skewness, and a hint between brackets that the other nominees do not have!
Ok, so under Portable Media Device of the Year, you've got "iPod Touch 3G"... what is that? That does not exist.
Apple fan boys are controlling the sh*t out of the polls. Really the iPad is the most anticipated? Have fun with everything you already have on your iphone/ipod and nothing different. Way to waste your money. and 3Gs has no reason to win best gadget of 2009. Makes no sense.
Anyone wanna tell me how the iPhone products just gained 4000+ votes in one night?
Somehow I feel that Engadget needs to seriously adress this issue of Apple fan boyism. I am a resident of Europe and I gladly and willingly accept that some of the topics are not relevant for me. But please: Apple might have 10% of the marketshare in the laptop/desktop market (in the US, globally it is 5%) and a far larger share in the market for mobile devices, yet I do not think that Apple is all this industry has to offer. There are (for starters) more than a billion possible consumers in China who can not write on a capacitive screen. Also, most people in the world cannot or will not pay the Apple tax. I love all of Apple products the same way I love italian sports cars: at a distance in smalle doses.

How in the hell is the iPhone in the "Best Console" contest but the Wii isn't? WTF? Why in the hell is the iPad in the "Most Anticipated Gadget" category but the Zune Phone isn't? The iPad didn't really become a true thing until it was unveiled some days ago. Before that, it was just a rumor. But that makes the list and the Zune Phone, which everybody seems to be waiting for, doesn't? Something is up with this. I'm not trying to bash Apple, but something is up. This contest makes the voting for American Idol look legit. I haven't seen a blantant screwjob this bad since Montreal 97 with Bret Hart.
how is the nexus one not in the most anticipated list?
also, since when is usb 3.0 a storage device/technology?
It's crazy how Apple has penetrated to mobile market, virtually for no reason - except the original iPhone. Harsh? Who really thinks iPod is innovative nowadays? There are Chinese alternatives waaaaay better. Who thinks 3GS is a major ipdate over 3G over original? Who thinks iPad is ANYTHING innovative? Not even close. It's a white book-reader with richer software. It's a keyboard-less tablet with a limited version of OSX (or on the other hand, a "larger" iPhone OS). Esp. after everybody knows that Jobs just keeps the version with 3G and/or camera for the summer (just because YOU CAN PAY FOR AN IPAD AGAIN)... I wonder with all the loyalty. Even the old pill "we hate everything MSFT because they are the Legion of Antichrist" has melted. I don't get it.
OK Engadget, every article is bound to raise some voices from the crowd this is a given. But here we clearly see that everybody seems to be onto you - people understand were this thing goes, it is not even discrete. Maybe you should revise that thing you call a vote list, now that it is still soon?
If you wanna give Apple one more tin crown, do it without our help.
I wonder if this is "just" a case of funboyism or something more "tangible" (if you like this kind of shadows over Engadget, it's your choice).
it disgust me how apple wins so many of the categories.
OK, last Saturday night after midnight the iPhone 3gs got exactly (as far as I could tell) 2000 votes all at once, in two categories, best gadget and best smartphone.
Engadget, the iPhone doesn't need your help to win, please don't risk de-legitimizing another iPhone accolade with paranoid vote rigging, I'm surprised other sites didn't pick up on it and bad mouth you everywhere.
Muahahahaha, Apple owns. Haters eat dust.
Jealous muthafuckas. Apple owns.
what we can learn from the percentage is that alot of applefanboys and girl are engadget readers....you guys should made the last vote for "am i an apple fanboy/girl" and only put two choices ...yes or no
the thing is that apple fanboys (or rather i-something fanboys) are just clueless...
God... HP Envy 13/15 should be beating Macbook Pro.
Magic Mouse? Really? Has anyone actually tried to use the thing?
@S7ev Hehe, yeah thatone shocked me aswell, Apple products get too many votes just based on the "i". How come a computer such as the Imac 27" gets so many votes when it has had such huge problems with the monitors? And the Adamo XPS is by far the coolest laptop of the year.
@KeegdnaB The Ipad didn't officialy excist in 2009 either ;)
So do the polls close on Monday or February 20th? It can't be both. LOL
@ijames99 I didnt say anything even reminiscent of a troll, just making a point
Why are people voting for Google maps on Droid instead of Sprint navigation on PRE.
Sprint navigation is like a FULL GPS solution for FREE compared to google navigation which is not as good.
Iphone in the "Game console of the year" section...? Really engadget ?
I declare Shenanigans on this poll. Somebody get the broom!
Shenaningans would be if the iPhone won. I'm taking screenshots!
Nice to see the Mac fanboys aren't trying to skew the poll this year so Apple wins everything.
