Do you hate Apple news?

Due to the overwhelming demand of 16 commenters, we present to you the Apple-free Engadget! Yes -- read all the hot news happening in the tech world without the upsetting presence of Apple-related stories. Your dream is a reality... so now you'll have to find something else to complain about!
Read - Engadget, sans Apple news
Subscribe - Engadget, minus the Apple
P.S. - You can change "apple" in the URL to whatever else you hate, too!

I love that even if you go to the Apple-Free site, the "most commented" sidebar still is full of Apple.
PS - To all of you commenting that you don't like the fact that Apple stuff is the most commented on, stop commenting on it. Then it won't be the most commented. Get it?
ok so now if I ever see someone commenting on an Apple post saying engadet are Apple fanboys and that they post too much Apple, I will share with them this link: http://www.engadget.com/exclude/apple/
YES YES YES! FINALLY!!!!! YOU READ MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This works for every topic, try it type in http://www.engadget.com/exclude/[TOPIC HERE]
Not "all Apple" news, just the news which you'd normally combine into other stories as an update... you know... the way you treat Android news.
Also I suspect this is just a stunt to prove that Apple-free Engadget will get less hits than Engadget with Apple. Moderate the news, is that too much to ask for?
I have no problems with Apple news, but there's many good companies out there making good stuff. Just don't think those companies and products have to be compared to iProducts everytime.
For instance, sometimes a product does x,y,z just like an iProduct, and you'll compare those features, fine. But if the other product also does a,b,c.. you'll often glaze over it OR not include those features when deciding if it's a 'good' alternative to the iProduct. It's like you use iStuff as the baseline standard to everything else.
Like I said, I have no problem with Apple news... I love the quality and humor in most of your writing, but it takes a different form when talking about Apple... almost like a couple of marketing folks are using Engadget as a conduit into our minds. muwahahahah
I would've said fuck the whiners, but I suppose it's fine if it can be used to exclude a topic of one's choosing.
Dear Topolsky,
Thank you for doing this. Now maybe people will not be scared to comment by getting down ranked if speaking positively about apple.
@MoonWalkerCTE I find its way the opposite. If I comment positively on any Apple news post I almost always get ranked down by Apple haters. Seems that there are more Apple haters than the other.
agreed.
Didn't gizmodo do something like this recently?
Well this is professional. Someone at eng clearly got sand in their vagoo.
ok, reply to didn't work.
Wow could this editorial have gotten any more condscending? This is just sad Engadget.
YEEEEES
I'm just annoyed cos there is at least 1 Apple post an hour so I can't see any other things that ACTUALLY might be INTERESTING!
plus i dont think we all hate apple. Just annoyed you spend x amount on a product that can only run 1 app is just stupid. On a side note can you open two web tabs on an ipod touch/ipad
I think it's funny how Engadget does this, yet people STILL complain. What is the matter with the world today? Engadget didn't even have to do this at all. So quit your whining!
On a lighter note... Keep up the good work Engadget!
Thank you engadget! I was seriously about to remove this site from my regular rotation. I've never seen so much coverage for one mediocre gadget. I'm really sick of looking at Jobs' emaciated form holding that goddamn iPad.
Thank you!
I don't like the idea, but what I'd love to see is some gadget news without the hype, the Nexus One coverage just flat pissed me off, and the coverage of the iPad rumors was just as bad if not worse.
It's getting so if the manufacturers don't discuss every stinking spec with tech bloggers first, it gets blown out of proportion in a matter of hours.
Reporting the Nexus One was like an "iPhone on beautifying steroids"???
Come on, you have a more sophisticated audience than that.
Look at what happened to Arrington when he decided he was an integral part of the JooJoo or whatever the hell that was....
Back in the day he would have been laughed off the stage for being so damn naive.
I just listened to your podcast that was all about the iPad. Grow the hell up guys, Dell and HP have had full OS tablets out for years and they damn near give them away. Apple does something that I promise you will sell like crazy, and you knotheads spend the whole show trashing it.
I enjoy the hell out of this site and the articles, but the hype is really getting to me.
Tone it down, do some RESPONSIBLE journalism and see what happens.
But then, I guess you wouldn't get as many hits as TMZ did when Michael Jackson died...
Oh well, screw it, do whatever the hell you want. If you're proud of your work at the end of the day and makes wads of cash who really cares?
Wow, now I can read the whole archive of Engadget since 2004 in 20 mins!
How did you know about the cold sweat, Engadget?!
Thanks!
this article is made of ABSOLUTE WIN... xDD
this is hilarious, well played engadget
I don't mind occasional news, but i really hate the whole rumors, speculations and impressions diarrhea.
@giedrys Man rumors make everything better. I mean how would we get by not knowing what companies will do before they even announce what there planing to do.
Changed "Apple" to "iPad," and now I am happy.
Apple makes great products, go them, im all for it.
But for fuck sakes, every other article is about Apple, every hour on the hour!
Give it a rest Engadget.
I think Josh got it all wrong and giving a very emotional response. There is nothing wrong with apple articles in general (though it can be toned down a bit) however there is a very big problem with "some" of the writers who write only about apple and have clearly no ability to write without being totally bias, and the worse is sometimes their editors (not you Josh) come and leave seriously nasty responses on readers' comments in order to defend their writer. For that, instead of seeing an apple free site, I'd to see a version of the site that gives me ability to block out some of (luckily not many) writers.
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/Balbasour
If I click on it, do I die?
@Balbasour do you want me to find out?
This is the best invention since the iPod.
If you look at the "most commented" section on the right side of the frontpage, 4/5ths of them are apple related. Whether positive or negative (with the current trend, most likely negative) people are reading the posts. If a lot of people are reading your posts about a certain subject wouldn't you think to post more about it? Its popular news, so expect posts about it.
The real question should be why are we all here and not on dates or doing other things. Oh wait I know we are geeks who love gadgets. I will submit to robot masters.
No, I just hate Apple Fanatics.. Obsessive metro-sexual types.. I guess it must be that way to justify the price of their products..
@Mrwirez And we hate M$ fanatics who jack off to bad porn.
@bullshitexpresscom Too funny, and I have to agree.. I use Ubuntu Linux though.. The problem is the M$ people are about 94% of global penetration, Apple 4%, and us Linux users about 2%.. A lot more MS people "bitching" and they have a point. It still does not change my mind... Apple people think they are better than everyone. I think they are foolish for paying outrageous prices for what they get... Locked down, proprietary, horsesh!t..
cheers..
quality not quantity!
@nabberuk If that's the case, then 90% of the comments would be deleted too.
I love Apple :) I actually wish Engadget did MORE Apple news. Apple and nothing else. Just because they're the only company that make stuff I actually care about
@mtnDewFTW That's what Gizmodo is for.
Truth be told i really want and i pad just for the bedroom, But not being able to watch a late night porn is srt of disappointing. any other tablets out there people would recommended?
@danhawk911 LOL no flash no video porn. Apple are prudes
@Wesley youre clearly not trying hard enough with your iphone/ipod touch
You don't get it Joshua, the haterz don't want to not read about Apple, they want other people, Engadget editors and readers included, to hate---or at least to dislike---Apple as much as they do.
So creating a filter won't help (just take a look at Gizmodo); the haters will ignore the filter, and still go to every Apple related post and bitch.
@RawheaD This is true. I've been guilty of quietly thinking to myself "This is a redonkulous amount of coverage on one product."
But, since I'm not an asshole, I keep it to myself and skip those articles I'm not interested in as opposed to clicking on an article I've no interest in and commenting on it - scratch that, attacking a website (that I obviously love, otherwise why would I be constantly reading it) for providing news on products/gadgets that are currently popular.
I'm against it, since part of the enjoyment of reading the comments are the comments about how there are too many Apple posts or references Apple! Ooooh, the comment section is going to become very quiet....
Now what if I don't want to read anything on Apple AND on Microsoft - can I exclude both? What if I only want to view articles on Linux? Can I do an /include/linux or something (but then again, I would like to see more than 1 new Engadget article every six months...).
@Craig B The closest solution seems to be something along the lines of http://www.engadget.com/tag/android
Do that with "/ipad" and you'll get at least ten articles per day (all with the same stuff only slightly rehashed but still ...). ;)
Lol Burn!
