CE-Oh no he didn't? Part LXVII: Steve Jobs lashes out at Google, calls Adobe 'lazy'
According to a report in Wired (and a source whom the publication says "could not be named"), Steve Jobs spoke to an audience of Apple employees at a town hall in Cupertino and... pulled zero punches. If you believe what you read, Jobs tackled a handful of major issues that have been buzzing the company lately, namely its run-ins with Google on a number of topics, and the lack of Flash support in its mobile devices (most notably in the upcoming iPad). On Google, Jobs had this to say: "We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won't let them." According to the attendee, another topic was brought up but Steve wouldn't let the Google issue go, stating his thoughts on the company's famous 'Don't be evil' line. In Steve's words? "It's bullshit."
Furthermore Jobs had a handful of choice words for Adobe, calling the company "lazy" and claiming that "Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it's because of Flash. No one will be using Flash. The world is moving to HTML5." Of course, these amazing nuggets of wisdom come from a source which Engadget cannot verify, so it's possible there are misquotes or items taken out of context, though from the sounds of things, this kind of talk falls right in line with what we'd expect from the man who said Microsoft "had no taste" and makes "really third-rate products." We eagerly await Eric Schmidt's response.

Apple, Adobe, and Google all suck and are evil, especially lately.
@atomandroid I AGREE. BUT APPLE SUCKS THE MOST. LOOK AT THE PIECE OF CRAP APPLE AIRPORT EXTREME. WHAT A OVER PRICED PIECE OF CRAP. ITS A $60 LINKSYS WITH A APPLE LOGO.
This story gets the most comments out of all the CEOhNoHeDidn't series.
SJ Rides again.
Google had a good relations with Apple, but can't keep it's business model, Trying to make OS, mobile phones, Office.
Basically with good relations to other companies it is now trying to piss them off. Good luck. Their software is rubbish. Time will tell, if a search engine maker can do any success in other things.
Look at their profits 99.9% is from ads related to search.
Adobe is extremely rubbish product. Reader, could not even keep settings, until recently.
I do not have any respect for a company which cannot fix so many faults for so long time.
Jobs is right, they do not entered search business, with good relations with Google. Google did.
Adobe is buggy, Google was attacked recently because of Adobe.
HTML5 is way better - get over flash.
I don't think Google wants to kill the iPhone. Google makes most of its money by selling ads. They made a phone to get more people using Google search, gmail, etc so that they have more people viewing their ads. iPhone users also use Google's websites, so they help Google, not hurt.
@Oflife
It's a sad world where accusation without proof is enough to ruin a man's integrity.
Sorry, but all the time I've been a gadget wizz (read: geek), I've never known Steve to use such crass language. I think him saying these things are too uncharacteristic to just go believing, "Some guy that heard him that I don't even know to ask".
Then how come I never have problems with Flash on my Windows machines?
@(Unverified)
I said the same thing...even Windows computers from 7 years ago can run flash. Perhaps OS X just isn't that great and has a lot of bugs??
@ludwigk
"laserlike focus', now there's sarcasm with no equal.
Reminds me of the time bush awarded blair the 'medal of freedom'
Don't bitch...get political and let them know:

See this is why I don't buy Apple or like Steve Jobs. He can't handle a little competition. He thinks he's the only one that can be on top and the only one that can knock out the competition. Stop whining Steve!!!! And If Adobe won't include you in there circle of friends make your own flash player if you think your so smart
@alexpr79 the problem is that when the iPad crashes due to some embedded flash content, the user isn't going to think that Flash is the problem, they're going to think it's the iPad that's the problem.
@CJisohsocool
What's really funny is that on my 24" iMac a HD Flash video will use up about 40% of CPU cycles. If I launch either VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop running Windows XP to play the same video, it will only use about 20% CPU cycles even with the overhead of the virtual software. Somebody ought to design some wrapper for the Flash plug-in for OSX so it thinks it's running in Windows. Apple and Adobe are playing the blame game, but it's Apple users that are left at a disadvantage with the mobile products.
Man don't feed me that crap.......Google is competition....quit mouthin off and deal with making your own products better. Deal with it.And as far as Adobe,calling a company who makes a product predominantly used on macs (CS4 Suite) is flat out stupid. Yea they have some improvement to make BUT....it's not their fault you are launching products that even in 2010 still DON'T HAVE FLASH!!!! Yet claim they are the ultimate browsing experience. Maybe if you put as much effort into your R & D, your newest product wouldn't be left as a Twitter joke and need to be shamelessly plugged at the Grammy's.
What does he mean by, "Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it's because of Flash". I thought Mac's never crash. It just works!
No wonder youtube videos suck on my ibook g4. If adobe isn't going to fix flash for modern macs, then i'm really out of luck.
Google will kill your iPhone. It's only a matter of time. You too M$FT
@taligent
Why is flash so much better on windows then?
I've never had ONE crash using the latest flash on Opera, FireFox, or even Internet Explorer 7 and 8 on Windows 7.
It's clear OS X has alot of problems underneath the "hood"
Steve is bullshit.
Adobe is lazy? How long did it take steves losers to figure out how basic cut and paste work? Now THAT is lazy.
@wraith404
Hahaha! I know right; I just loved their response why it took years to implement copy and paste -- "we're working on other more important things right now" -- LMAO!!!
Are you guys surprised by Job's comments?
Apple is the DEFINITION of an anti-competitive company, they heavily regulate their mobile device application store and straight up will NOT allow ANY software that competes with their own. Ridiculous. That would be like Microsoft forcing us to use Internet Explorer if we want to use Windows; they tried that and it did not work -- they realized it's BS. When will Apple do the same? Adobe Flash sucks on macs because macs SUCK.
Whats gotten into your ipads this morning..lol
Motorola:
"We did not enter the operating system/computer business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the RAZR. We won't let them."
De ja vu?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Html5
You can say Apple isn't inovative, they are making products today for the standards of 2022. Screw Flash, thats so 2010.
I've had my Mac crash on me many times (not so much since the move to Snow Leopard) but I can't recall a crash because of Flash, ever.
Hmm, an unverified source. Those are always fun and reliable.
If this is true, then someone needs to slap Jobs upside the head and tell him to get over himself. Flash is entrenched. Even if the future is HTML5, it's going to be around as a legacy format for years.
If it's not, then someone needs to do the same for the unverifiable source.
is adobe lazy for being one of the main sources everyone relied on for rich internet media for the past several years, or is apple lazy for saying,
"well we couldnt get it to work right so were just going to omit it from our hardware. "
to me its more lazy for apple not to implement the existing software into their hardware hoping html5 will take over, and even if it does it doesnt mean everyone will switch to it in the next year or two, so by the time people do switch the current hardware will be obsolete by sever iterations.
its all about money in the end, apple didnt want to pay to develop hardware that would work with flash, or software that would make it work. why would you ever want to let people have free internet tv and other rich media when you could pay them to to view it though itunes.
Apple makes us all puke and engadget is riding along on this moneytrain we gotta stop. People, let's continue this new state of mind! We demand action now! No more brainwashing! No more gadgets we dont need! No more crap! Let's spend our money to useful things! I ask for someone who stands up and makes a better gadget website then this so I can leave this site behind me. We must move forward. Look @ serious reviews, not clownmovies like this of crapgadgets. This is not what we want. Engadget you make us puke. Thanks a lot.
Apple's dislike of Flash has nothing to do with technical merit. Its all about the integrity of the iTunes store. Flash has no charge model. Applications are free. Video is free. Flash is an anathema to the iTunes model
Flash has never crashed my Mac but it has crashed my web browser. I suspect that is what he meant, especially in the era of "protected memory".
"Microsoft makes really third-rate products."
Like the iPad? Muppet.
Couldn't adobe just develop flash on the iPhone and upload something on Cydia?
Agreed. Adobe is pretty lazy.
@w00t
Chestnuts are lazy.
BOYCOTT!
I propose a boycott of the iPad until Apple allows Flash onto it and enables multitasking, which it seems to me are the most common & reasonable complaints that folks have been having about it. There lots of other changes that I'd like to see, but these could be done immediately and would sway me back to buying the machine.
If you agree, please help spread the word.
windows fanboys. f*ck off. you guys are soooo annoying. ballmer is just a much an asshole. if not worse. need i say 'developers'? you cry every time an apple post comes out. engadget had to baby you and make a -apple one yet you still bitch and moan. just f*ck off if you are going to be THAT negative in relatively every post.

@cherryboom Sorry, but no, they didn't. It's FreeBSD with their own graphics layer on top.
