Dual Electronics' iPod touch GPS cradle now shipping in late February
Well, it's quite a ways off the November 2009 launch date the company initially promised, but Dual Electronics is now saying that its XGPS300 navigation cradle for the iPod touch will really, honestly be available sometime in "late February." The price presumably remains at the same $179.99 as before, which also includes a bundled NavAtlas navigation app and, of course, an adjustable windshield mount. Not exactly the easiest sell, to be sure, especially considering how much the GPS market has changed in just those few short months.

@Solidstate89
You cant handle the truth!
Might as well get a stand-alone gps unit -.-
@Bowsa Yup, for around that price you usually get a year of traffic included.
@Bowsa
Or a Google phone =D
@Bowsa Second that!
@BE77Y cant wait to see someone plant a iPad on their dash
@Bowsa Lol exactly. And for the post above if you stick a 9 inch tablet on your windscreen you wont probably see the road ahead. The iPad really does suck: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/236306_why-the-apple-ipad-will-eventually-fail
damnit this is still apple related and i bookmarked the apple-free site!
@irfan
Well, it kinda doesn't have Apple in the tags.
Why is this showing up? I asked for apple free Engadget!
@irfan Maybe they should amend it to "90%-Apple-free Engadget"
@irfan, exactly what I was thinking the feed should not show this.
Editors need to be informed of the new site wide changes. Josh at least enforce the rule.
@irfan, seems Engadget should be able to ban multiple words like "Ipad, Iphone, Ipod, Mac, OS X, Jobs......".
Well, If they can recognize Apple products in the photos or movies, that will be perfect.
You see Engadget, you caved in to 16 peoples demands and people still aren't satisfied. You guys are going down a slippery slope. They think because you caved once you'll cave again. I'm afraid I believe you guys will cave in too.
So why don't you guys introduce these 16 people as your new bosses so we can be done with it.
@irfan
I'm OK with Apple news as long as they are not about a failed device that accounts for 5 of the 4 "breaking" news in the front banner; especially when NO news have even a little importance. The iPad is crap, as well as the coverage.
So I only excluded iPad. :D
This is about theiPod touch, a nice device that is getting a GPS dock, which is nice (although it's quite expensive).
@irfan Yeah Apple , boooo :)
@Arkv2
Are you one of the losers who called the iphone failed when it was unveiled?
oh it's Apple-free!
NOT!
@irfan Just be grateful its not another 100th iPad article... baby steps.
@irfan
Looking at the tags, they went out of their way to exclude Apple from the list. It must be that same zeal that struck them when reviewing the HD2: "A miraculous device, really astonishing, and..." Wait, guys do you see where this is going? We're putting it at least on par with our iPhones. [All look bashfully down at the pants pocket with the obligatory company iPhone] This just... doesn't... compute... "...and it's COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY THE WM6.5 INTERFACE YOU SEE LIKE TWICE DURING SETUP! A TRAGEDY!" There, that ought to do it, right my little iPhone? Who loves you? Whoooo loves you? That's right, Papa loves you!
@Mysterius
I would actually be okay with a 90% apple free site.... basically an exclude site unless it had a keyword "major" in it.... so all the important new tech would show up for apple and all the unimportant still wouldnt be so overwhelming..
I like tech news... even apple tech news.... but come on.... even if it is a slow week for ya guys.... you are still posting 10 fold the amount of articles about the ipad then you did about the Nexus One which I think was a way bigger deal. Personally... and even then.... I would hate it if you posts 20 posts a day about the nexus one too.... and i love google.
You can get a decent LIVE-serviced dedicated car GPS receiver for less money...
Price is kind of high. Google = Free gps. Nikia = Free gps. And apple...mmm u never know they have they own company for maps too so idk $179.99 I save my money for that.
@Flacofromny23 The good thing about Nokia Free GPS is that you don't require a data plan to use it. It's internally in your Nokia phone. I used the GPS receiver when I went abroad to Switzerland to find my way around at times. Worked like a charm. Didn't pay a cent.
As a nexus one owner, I feel obligated to point and laugh.
@B3astofthe3ast
As a G1 owner, I'm pointing and laughing too.
@B3astofthe3ast
Ha, as a Droid owner I was pointing and laughing at all of you! But now we can all join together in our pointing and laughing this iDevice
@B3astofthe3ast I bet the owner of an iPod touch doesn't feel too bad paying a total of $479 for 16gb of PMP dreams and GPS. Enjoy paying well over $1000 throughout the life your device!
@B3astofthe3ast
As a Nokia owner I point and laugh at this and the Android phones that need a data connection to use their maps!
Good point too bad Nokia and apple ain't dating. That would be perfect for US iPhone users.
@RLBurkes
Yeah, good luck making calls on your iPod Touch.
@t2technology

@yulebellow hi, i have a hero.. with google android, how u get gps directions? i have used google maps but there is no turn by turn voice.. or maybe i'm missing something.. please help. thank you
wow people get life and stop giving stupid comments like "omfg apple again zooomgg"
So, the iPod is basically just being used as a display? That's pretty innovative. I'm impressed.
@Comment No its doing all the processing, the holder is just suplying the GPS signal. Furthermore b/c it doesn't multitask, if you switch out you'll lose your voice prompts as to where to go. This doesn't happen with other pdas and smartphones.
@Luxury Guy
Hmm, thankfully I have backgrounder.
Unthankfully I have an iPhone.
@Comment
The iPad is exactly as you put it, a large screen. nothing else. Check this out: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/236306_why-the-apple-ipad-will-eventually-fail
$180,,?
No thanx. I'd rather buy iPhone 3g for $49 thru AT&T. Com.
Im so glad i changed my mind and Got N900 with free Nav for life, instead of getting iPhone and pay out of my ass for every single over priced add on.
@KGB somebody give this guy a gold star.....
@ummmwhat I dont want a cold star, i want chocolate chip cookies.
@KGB
So the N900 comes the cradle for free genius?
@iPad Huh?
@KGB
This cradle is not a navigation software. Last time I checked the N900 doesn't come with a free cradle.
@iPad
$180 for free cradle... ooook.
N900 ftw.
@ahmedyamout
N97 mini + Ovi Maps = ftw!
I think I'll stick with Google navigation on my nexus one
voice search, hand-free
and well is free not 180 dollars...
saved me money by not buying a GPS too.
also +1 for you nokia guys with ovi maps
Wow. Another Add-on for an apple device that is expensive and exorbinant. What a surprise. Apple seems to love making expensive accessories for its products. half of which should just be included in the first place. I would just skip apple all together here and go for the Zune and a real GPS.
