Dual Electronics' iPod touch GPS cradle now shipping in late February
Well, it's quite a ways off the November 2009 launch date the company initially promised, but Dual Electronics is now saying that its XGPS300 navigation cradle for the iPod touch will really, honestly be available sometime in "late February." The price presumably remains at the same $179.99 as before, which also includes a bundled NavAtlas navigation app and, of course, an adjustable windshield mount. Not exactly the easiest sell, to be sure, especially considering how much the GPS market has changed in just those few short months.

@Thor e wow another complete idiot that thinks this is actually made by apple, and not another company like the article states....unfortunately 95% of the PMP market (thats an insanely generous #) decide to pass on the zuneHD....and i know this angers you (thats sad btw) but this thing will prob sell (in terms of numbers) competitively with the zuneHD itself. (even more sad than your anger)
@ummmwhat
Thanks for the retort goofball. Yes it's made by another company but Apple should be including this or atleast ATT should atleast be allowing the $10 per month subscription like other phones / providers have available instead of almost $200 for the product or App. Google is giving it for free. I don't even have a Zune HD and could care less, but given how poorly Apple treats its customers and the fact that the ZuneHD is just better hardware overall should make it the easy choice, but Apple is just riding the gimmick wave into financial greatness untill the wave of lemmings wake up.
@Thor e still proving how uninformed you are? ATT does offer the service for exactly what you quoted.....just so happens that the majority of users choose another option......imagine that, apple and options mentioned in the same sentence......btw why would att be offering a service to ipod touch owners......sorry but they don't come with 3g.
i won't bother addressing your zune being superior comment....as it seems that thoughts like that make up your identity, and i wouldn't want the fictional walls of the internet to come crumbling down around you.
@Thor e
You are so stupid it ain't even funny. I guess Google bundles cradles with their phones, damn they need to start doing IQ checks before letting people register.
haha now i know this is just in spite of all the babies whining about apple.....well done engadget.......keep it comin.
$179.99 would get you a very good dedicated GPS navigation system (especially if you know when to shop; say, around Christmas time).
Then, if you really wanted to, you could always hook up your phone to your GPS via bluetooth.
i'll stick w my garmin nuvi that costed me 129bucks and even comes with free lifetime traffic update.
I don't want to be on my motorcycle with that car behind me !!!
What the hell, I thought I had apple filtered!!!! What a rip off.
@Yinten You know us human beings have two amazing tools we can use. One is called the Eye. It allows us to see posts or look past them. The other is called a Brain, it allows us to make choices and decisions as to whether or not to click on a post and comment or ignore it. You clearly don't know how to use either one of these amazing abilities.
@sonola777 I have read this blog for quite some time, the only reason I've commented lately is because it has become a storm of apple posts when other relevant things are happening. It use to be a good editorial. When I comment, I waste time. For some reason, a zillion apple posts make me comment ergo waste time.
I'll compare it to this. When you scroll through porn, some hope that the filters do not show gay porn previews. Some people get their kicks out of gay porn as some do hundreds of apple posts about a product that I feel isn't even worth a blog post. If it was worth a blog post. It isn't an original idea, and is a silly implementation of the tablet. I would rather not see the previews, as I do not want to see gay porn previews. Some people like gay porn previews, I happen to not be fan. Its not that apple previews shouldn't exist, I just hope my filters hold up.
It's like fox news, everybody else that is payed off. I prefer my news, technology, economical, financial, political in the center of a Venn diagram. Engadget is turning into Fox News or CNN with extreme tilt. I love gadgets, my job revolves around programming gadgets, and I read all of these blogs, so I can stay relevant.
I do understand apple's focus, making devices for users that haven't had a computer around them their whole lives. Apple develops products that old people/non power users understand, which has its place, but the recent posts have made every product from them seem nothing short of revolutionary.
Do you know of any other good technology blogs with a strong focus on gadgets? This clearly is a bought editorial.
You have to love this site. Apple has no need for their own site. Just send it here. I do have to add the CNET/PCWORLD is in the running to. $180 LMAO.
since this has an ipod, isn't it still apple news. P.S., this site is retarted!!
MAC FOREVER jk, seriously
Nowadays, you can get two separate, fully functional GPS units for that much. Even including bluetooth, text-to-speech, etc. Looks like they were too late to this party.
all roads lead to apple, support steve's latest surgery, karma sure has'nt
TOO BIG.
Is this story about the mini pad (ipod touch) or maxi ipad?
The red headed step child wants to know.
I think it's kind of bad form to post an article about some iPhone/iPod Touch accessory that is really not all that exciting right after posting an article about Apple haters, especially after all the talk about Engadget having an overabundance of Apple-related posts compared to every other company. People think Engadget is biased, unfair, and unbalanced towards Apple and have recently been very vocal about it. So what does Engadget do? They post about an accessory for an Apple product. Really?
@CapnShiner
Who gives a fuck what you morons think, they can post whatever the fuck they want. If you don't like it go hand yourself.
why would any EVER buy this?! There are cheaper gps that sync to phones and do the same damn thing. Waste.
GPS untis = this decade's portable calculator
tomtom car kit it's better than that
@ango
How do you figure. TomTom isn't portable for use outside of the car, no built in battery charger to charge the ipod on the go and you still have to pay for the tomtom nav software, so between the cradle and the software you're looking at the same price. As for performance between the Navatlas and Tomtom software, it's apples and oranges.
why is this in the apple-free engadget?
Why does the headline read "Now Shipping" but in the first paragragh it says "Shipping Late Feb". Since when does "now" include something happening 4 weeks from "now"? Who writes this stuff, this has been on thier website since November? Slow news day!!
@Xing
engadget changed the headline, must of this post
looks kinda like a G1
Apple still sucks!
Is Engadget on Apples payroll???
@pedro
ROFL. I just imagined that... It will probably take whole passenger seat :)
