...and he took it to the 52nd Annual Grammys. Nice product placement, Apple. Video of the whole thing after the break. Say, what kind of pocket did that come out of?
@Ipah You got it all wrong. The so called "Apple haters" are merely Apple fanboys in a closet. They love reading and putting comments in all Apple related articles, but because they're afraid they won't blend in with the rest of the haters sheep, they put out negative comments.
@Ipah its not hard.its the obvious bias towards fapple products like the fox news of tech blogs its supposedly a damn tech site.not an endless coverage of products for people too dumb to understand wut R computerz site
@Conceyted Yeah, and I think most people missed the joke. He was handing out the Biggest Douche Award. And ironically, he pulled the award and the winner right out of his custom coat pocket.
OMG We can't have people talking about this product, no one is allowed to like an iPad or want one!! Apple Haters, you must now try and silence Stephen Colbert!
@Sneakz Although I can certainly imagine Colbert being willing to go along with the whole deal... I mean, he's a big Apple fanboy. He's been saying "Give me an iPad" the whole damn week, even before we knew the thing's name.
How was that a crack on iPad. If nothing else, that was a huge endorsement for iPad at one of the biggest awards night in America. Too bad he didn't pull out a HP Slate or other piece of shit! Publicity is good folks....bad or good!
Yeah, and I think most people missed the joke. He was handing out the Biggest Douche Award. And ironically, he pulled the award and the winner right out of his custom coat pocket. Yup I agree ^_^
@Conceyted Wow, using that props on a grammy surely made a lingering impression for the music industry.. Nice pose! I wonder, how much apple had paid him? More details: http://bit.ly/apple-ipad-scrutinized-details
"The last time a tablet was released to mankind, it was not advertised this much"
@Conceyted everyone in my house was like "wow, that ipad looks nice!" even if I was talking about it all week. Now I have to buy 5... Thanks a lot music industry!
I'm actually watching the grammys right now on the DVR. I thought the Pink high flying act was much more impressive so far.
On another note I was flipping through some of the other channels about an hour ago an spotted a Motorola StarTac on an old rerun of Seinfeld. I think Engadget should consider a new blog thread with the footage.
same here :[ But I' very excited of what the developers are going to do with this iPad! Especially when it get multitasking down! But I also think company's are going to 1up Apple and release tablets on the cheap with windows 7 crushing the iPad. Cause really apple set the bar with the tablet and now it's just a race to see who can replace those missing features and price!
@Emitor I have a feeling that multitasking will make it into the iPad, its probably going to be used in the zoom out function, where you can have the app zoom out in the center of the screen, then they will probably have other applications running, showed up on the side of the zoomed out pane, and you can cycle through the apps, that you have opened, and maybe theyll let you multitask soo much that they have pages of how many apps you have open, like the amount of pages you have of apps
@Andr Ha ha ha ha ... You're kidding, right? Smart move for Apple to set that up. In any case, Colbert would have received a free one just for mentioning he wanted one on air.
@Canolli – @Andr is right. This was not a paid endorsement. The whole sketch was Colbert's idea and was set up at his request. And for those of you asking, Colbert had a custom pocket sewn into his jacket for the iPad.
Groan. Now every Apple retail store will have a line a block long of eager consumers just waiting to give their money to Apple for a brand new iPad. A million iPads sold the first week won't be too bad, though.
So His Steveness, voted Best CEO of the Decade, thinks that Apple has a shot at success with iPad, but some random dude on the Web thinks not. Hmmm... whom to trust, whom to trust?
@JeanMichel Decombe honestly His Steveness is not a better opinion than the random guy from the web. The Cultmaster has to give a canned response "Of course its going to do well" "its magical" etc. Would it look good if he said "you know what? nobody's gonna buy this thing".
Do you think the iPad 'magically' appeared in his hand as the newest Apple product, and all he did as a CEO was endorse it? You need to look at this from another point of view.
He's not trying to sell something that was given to him by the R&D department of Apple. He was involved with it's creation from the start- form factor, features, and even market research. He has a much bigger stake in the iPad being a good product and selling well than any of us commenting here. Also, he has been doing a pretty darn good job heading Apple recently, in case you haven't noticed. I'm fairly certain that means his opinion actually -does- carry more weight in this situation, thanks. ;P
@Alan Strangis engadget, it doesnt matter how much you cram the ipad in our face. we aint buyin one!!! unless you are putting a gun to our head. do it!
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

BEST joke of the Grammys. Hands down!
@Conceyted Just goes to show you how desperate Apple is to make this thing successful.
@Conceyted
Wow I love you Engadget!
Anyone got a copy for YouTubin'?
@Conceyted
I agree!
@Conceyted Apple paid ALOT for that
@Conceyted Yeah, and I think most people missed the joke. He was handing out the Biggest Douche Award. And ironically, he pulled the award and the winner right out of his custom coat pocket.
OMG We can't have people talking about this product, no one is allowed to like an iPad or want one!! Apple Haters, you must now try and silence Stephen Colbert!
@Conceyted I know this is off topic....but I think it would be great for Engadget to take note of this CNET article.

How come we've had polls about every other device except for the iPad?
@Sneakz Although I can certainly imagine Colbert being willing to go along with the whole deal... I mean, he's a big Apple fanboy. He's been saying "Give me an iPad" the whole damn week, even before we knew the thing's name.
@Sneakz
you mean like Microsoft and their zune or Google and the nexus one? Lol.
@scottkrk
How was that a crack on iPad. If nothing else, that was a huge endorsement for iPad at one of the biggest awards night in America. Too bad he didn't pull out a HP Slate or other piece of shit! Publicity is good folks....bad or good!
"Im really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but the HP slate is one of the best tablets of all time."
@Conceyted Hey look, theres a story on Engadget thats Apple related, and the comments are filled with nothing but obnoxious trolls.
How ironic!?
@scottkrk wat r u talking about he was making fun of it on Thursday episode but i guess if they pay me a million i would hold one and smile
@SkyNew Seeing as how only 10% of people would buy a Mac computer, it is interesting that 36% of people would buy an iPad.
Yeah, and I think most people missed the joke. He was handing out the Biggest Douche Award. And ironically, he pulled the award and the winner right out of his custom coat pocket.
Yup I agree ^_^
@naz
how did this get highly ranked?
LMFAO
@Evan
Well done, sir. Well done.

Best comment of this thread
@Conceyted
I got an ipad migraine.
LOL did anyone see it came out from?
@Conceyted
I don't get it. Why is that funny?
@Conceyted everyone in my house was like "wow, that ipad looks nice!" even if I was talking about it all week. Now I have to buy 5... Thanks a lot music industry!

@naz Apple doesn't pay for product placement.
@Sneakz
It has nothing to dó with Apple being Desperate, Stephen has been asking for one on the colbert report since before it was announced
@Conceyted
2010 Grammys - it should be tagged 2010 Grammys.
ON topic, yes, best joke ever. Even got Jay-Z in the mix as well. Colbert does it so well.
@Andr The production team behind HOUSE would say otherwise
@Emitor

That's because Apple has no chance of success with this thing...
@dcoaster I'd like to take this time to call you on that one
@dcoaster
Groan. Now every Apple retail store will have a line a block long of eager consumers just waiting to give their money to Apple for a brand new iPad. A million iPads sold the first week won't be too bad, though.
@dcoaster
I LOVE APPLE OMG, This made Grammy so much more intresting
So His Steveness, voted Best CEO of the Decade, thinks that Apple has a shot at success with iPad, but some random dude on the Web thinks not. Hmmm... whom to trust, whom to trust?
@JeanMichel Decombe Obviously it's the one that has the money that they want.
@JeanMichel Decombe honestly His Steveness is not a better opinion than the random guy from the web. The Cultmaster has to give a canned response "Of course its going to do well" "its magical" etc. Would it look good if he said "you know what? nobody's gonna buy this thing".

@dcoaster
I agree with you. But Apple will still sell an initial boatload of iPads.
Wow... I thought it would be lame to use the 'apple free' version of engadget, but now, I thank you editors for the option...
@Alan Strangis Can I have the comments free version.
Just the facts, Mam.
@Alan Strangis
