27-inch iMac gets another display firmware update, everyone else gets minor iTunes update

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Someone reply if this works for you, I'm getting one soon, and if it truly is fixed I can stick with my date to go out and pick it up. (the 10th, btw)
I bought an iMac 4 weeks ago and there are no screen issues
@Geniusface Doubt this matters but dual core? i5? i7?
@Fadakar i havent had one problem since it came out... you are all on crack lol
I hope this fixes the problem, been waiting to pull the trigger on a 27" i7 iMac for a while now.
@thetoad Still at it I see. You must be exhausted. a full day of trolling on every single engadget post must be tiering, no?
@thetoad
Yes but then you can wear an Apple T-Shirt and tell all your friends that you're a mac user, and that you hate PCs because they're too complicated and get viruses! You can also dance around your mac to the songs in the iPod commercials. What more could a person ask for!?
I have the 27" and I never had a single problem that people talked about int he forums. No yellow tinge, no flickering, none of that stuff.
So, for those who want to get it, but are too scared, go for it. The internet really just magnifies things a lot.
@mtnDewFTW
I also have a 27" corei7, and for over a month now, haven't had any issues. Really beautiful machine ... only wished it had a SSD option. -:)

@mtnDewFTW Yep, mine's doing awesome as well. Mac has always had problems with their video hardware... kind of annoying.
@mtnDewFTW Everything's fine with mine too.
And I was getting ready to toss my 27 out the window today.
Speaking of which...
In a world without walls, who needs Windows?
@thetoad Both you and OP are morons.
OS X is better than Windows, hence everyone switching to Macs
@mtnDewFTW: Everyone is switching to OSX.
Well, except of course, almost everyone.
@thetoad
What the hell man......... its just an operating system........ Not everyone is going to like what you like, and I use a pc...... you just need to cool down...
@thetoad
"If you don't have walls what exactly would you have then if not a window? Your logic fails, typical mac user." - Like the guys trying to debate you. Lighten up my man.
"Oh sorry I forgot you own a mac, you dont need windows in you room because most basements dont have windows."- *facepalm*
"Back on subject most mac users dual boot Windows because everyone knows OSX is poop."- Poop? What are you, 8?
@deepdigits @Ruben @Hell Angel it's best us latters stay out of the formers' idiot fanboy debate.
@Ruben
PC users are freaking out these days, they must have really loved
a) Apple's amazing financials
b) The iPad
I think FDR said it best, "There is nothing to fear but Apple Switchers..."
@thetoad
What are you talking about? Macs just work.... just not perfectly, sort of like PC's.
@DoctarPeppar Speaking of which: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_tIa9b00Dg
@kenny goo
It's useful when they are trying to get user input on whether or not this fixes the problem that they've reported upon previously.
That iTunes file size is pretty big for a *small* update ;)
@The Shadow
Thats what I was thinking. Are they ever going to start on a new iTunes from scratch, maybe a version that doesn't suck for instance?
It re-downloads the entire iTunes package, not a big deal. =D
@The Shadow
the firmware update is small for a big update
@thetoad
Hey, I love Windows and don't think too highly of Apple, but you are a moron and really need to STFU.
@The Shadow Haven't you figured out yet then whenever there is a change to iTunes they make you download the whole thing again? It's always been that way.
@Steve2000 I believe he was mocking the size of iTunes, rather than the update.
I've had huge issues with syncing my ipod nano. I hope that update fixes it, because I can't even update it!
That apple update screen looks funny without the option to sneek in.....I mean install one of their other products like MobileMe, safari, or quicktime player. Richardm you've obviously given in to their demands already,
@Edobe
That's what the software update screen has always looked like, at least since 10.4. It has never pushed any new software to users.
You must be thinking of Windows.
You must all of their software installed already. Anyway I just updated iTunes on my pc and MobileMe was checked on the update screen. In an obvious effort to sneak it on to my pc.
@Edobe Installing them doesn't mean you have to use them. You'd be a happier man if you have them so that the messages won't annoy you again.
@Edobe you realise that the box you're talking about only pops up on Windows versions of Software Update… right?
@kenny goo It's also news worthy when people like myself want to buy an iMac but want to know that all problems have been fixed.
Seems like Apple's really dropped the ball lately.
@SilverSurfer
as an apple fan, that's what I'm thinking too to be honest.. ipad is obviously ridiculously crippled, and if you think back to their last event before that, they didn't put a camera in the ipod touch and the added that POS camera to the nano... two totally underwhelming events in a row is bad news, the probably june iphone update had better be pretty 'revolutionary' if there's no multitasking, thinner or otherwise improved form factor, forward camera and improved battery, i think apple is going to lose a lot of mindshare. i really hope that apple's heyday isn't over, just because I'd like to see every company push the envelope of the tech industry.
@thetoad Beter than Media Crap player 12
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/apple
@thetoad AHh not all apple stuff is horrible. Mind you this is a bit of black eye with the iMac line and I wouldn't pay that much for it for other reasons but I do like the MacBook Pro line. As for the OS its pretty good I think. Every operating system has its pros and cons. I admit apple's snobby price point and controlling nature is out of line sometimes but beside that they are a good product line. Fanboyism exists on both sides. Mean while Ubuntu set to take over the known universe! JK..fun to play with though.
@Edobe
he only trolls the Apple posts, it's just a coincidence that it's every post on the site.
Holy crap.
@Yankfan81
who used Windows media players?
VLC or get the fck out. (we can admit when something is bad)
Crossing my fingers that this works. Of course it's a very intermittent issue in my case, (but severe when it does flare up,) so I won't be 100% sure it's worked for almost a week.
It's all Flash fault, damn you Adobe.
@Sarcasme
I LOL'ed
@kenny goo You answered your own question.
I gotta agree with Kenny Goo. Does this update really require a whole article on engadget? If you have the affected display, you'll more likely than not be getting the updtae within a few days anyway.
And if you're considering buying a mac, you can look up reliability and performance on a mac specific blog or forum. Since when does engadget feel the need to pass info on this update to all gadget enthusiasts? I don't see any articles telling me I should download the latest windows updates, and I would bet plenty of money that more engadget readers use windows than macs.
I try to be partial, but the iPad speculation and overdose of articles post-release were really overkill. When you have to set up a feature on your website specifically to exclude Apple updates because enough people are complaining, don't you think that might mean something?
Sorry to interrupt ladies, however, Windows Media Player 12 is very nice.
Same thing with iPhone apps, it re-downloads the entire application instead of patching the code. I honestly don't mind.
