@cashclientel I guess if you rip your music in a lossless format then yes you should be able to take advantage of $350 headphones. Is it worth the $$$? Only you can make that decision...
@magallanes i would assume that on top of ripping all the music u have in lossless format, u'd also need to bypass that lousy DA converter that most phones/pmps have to drive ur earbuds.
@cashclientel After having an ipod touch and Shure se530 earbuds, I was convinced they sucked until they were properly driven by a Zune HD. How someone can give an earbud review using an ipod in good faith is beyond me.
The most important part would be bypassing the DA converter with an LOD and a nice pre-amp. On the other hand, all of that would undo the portability of the iPod.....
The DA converter on most PMPs is the limiting factor when dealing with music ripped at 192 kbps (variable) and above. Although a properly set EQ (along with mp3 enhancement effects such as BBE+) help, they still will not be good enough to justify these headphones....
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Can the iPhone (or any other PMP/phone) do $350 headphones justice?
