It's all rumor for now, but Canon Rumors has word from a trusted source that a new Rebel is coming next week known as the T2i. According to its source, we can expect a new, higher resolution LCD, selectable FPS video, new LP-E8 battery and grip in the followup to the
Rebel T1i. It also brings a new Rebel shape and build quality but lacks an articulating screen. And in case you're wondering, the uptick in camera news is related to the runup to the big PMA 2010 photog show kicking off on February 19th -- so get used to it.
Great Scott!
@Emmett Brown I know doc! This is heavy!
@Elaith
Weight has nothing to do with it.
@Emmett Brown: I guess you guys aren't ready for the 550D, but your kids are gonna love it.
I'm in love with my 7D, and looking at how cheap it is right now it is THE camera money has to buy ! Insane photos and videos !!
I'm going to assume it's going to be called the 550D in Europe and Asia (ex Japan). The Rebel shape has been around since the 400D, and it has its drawbacks, especially the thin handgrip, so let's see what's up with that.
@YpoCaramel
Since the 350D.
I hope that it will be as cheap as its predecessor but will support 1080p video recording at 30 FPS, not 20 as the previous model.
@pavelgr It's an SLR; I don't see why it needs video at all. Cut it out with this all-in-one crap and focus on better high-iso sensitivity, longer battery life, faster/longer burst shooting, etc. Kill the competition with features that photographers (even amateur ones) want, not the features your grandmother may want (unless she's a photog, then she counts).
@Jason Litka Yes, but the idea that you can manually adjust everything while recording a video just as when you take a picture is great!
They need to get rid of that stupid "rebel" name in North America, it's so much easier and less confusing with the 3 digit numbering scheme they use elsewhere.
@CL
Hehe - How about KISS? AFAIK, the 350D had some kinda similar name in Asia
It still doesn't change the fact that it's an APS-C - Good for beginners, OK for intermediate&PROs who wanna use it as a back-up.
Here's hoping they up the video frame rate to 1080 24p and 30p and give more manual controls.
also the name sounds stupid. Rebel T-blabla. Im glad I live in europe don't have to be ashamed to show my camera.
@Roger767
Still better than the "Kiss X..." naming scheme they use in Japan ..
oh,my picture
Canon isn't attending PMA this year but was just at CES a few weeks ago. Why would the announce anything new right before a show they won't even be at when they could have done it at CES?
I would love to see the price & spec
Mr. Blurry-cam ?
I have the T1i and its an awesome camera
i cant imagine they put an even better screen on it, i think that will be unnecessary.
a rotating screen would be cool
but most of all... the microphone-in
I HATE how it doesnt have that.
I just purchased my Canon EOS T1i from Costco. I can't wait for this to come out. :)
