Don't get too excited, we don't have specs or release windows yet, but we do have hilariously inflated model names to share with you. NVIDIA's
all-new graphics architecture, commonly known as
Fermi and recently re-coded as the GF100, has its first two commercial product names -- the GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 -- which as you'll have noticed skip right past the 300s and nearly double the model numbers of the company's
current gen offerings. Let's just hope the performance lives up to such a blusterous naming scheme.
Are you implying that Nvidia uses confusing model numbers? *gasp*
@Ducman69 I got a 8800GT, which means I'm still on the cutting edge... what do you mean they started again?
lol at twitter as the source
Probably going to release GTX 300 series soon to save their company from losing money... but it will just be a GTX 200 series with a new sticker on it.
@d3sc3nd3ncy There's already a mobile 3xx line which is basically a rebranded 2xx line. So they won't want to confuse Fermi with that.
@d3sc3nd3ncy I actually surprised they didn't go with GTX 570 and GTX 580 with a GTX with a dual GPU GTX 595 to follow.
@d3sc3nd3ncy This is totally getting out of control, this plus Intel rebadging current C2Ds as Core i3.
@hmmwv I would actually say that rebranding CD2 to I3 makes sense.. Really it does.. Think about it.. the average person buying a processor doesn't know a think about GHZ, just usually higher is better.. but if they have a represnational i3
I can't wait for specs. DX11? Dual/Multi-GPU processing? Anyhting?
Can't wait for these to come out [whatever they'll be named] So that Radeons become cheaper ^__^
@Luffy : exactly :) AMD, comin' back in a big way.
@psycros
Erm...
@psycros What does AMD have to do with Radeon?
@Arcaria -- If I was to guess, I'd say the connection is that AMD owns ATI which is who manufactures the Radeon. But that's just a guess.
@ean5533 Hahaha, well played.
did you expect anything different?
what does subaru and nvidia have in common?
the faster it is... the more letters and numbers it gets
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX 2
subaru impreza wrx sti
@corylulu Subaru Impreza STI type RA spec C takes the cake with the most acronyms.
@phufufoo
Pretty sure
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360
takes the cake.
@BoullionCube
Land Rover Range Rover Sport Supercharged HSE
Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16v Evoluzione
Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 spyder
4870 and 4890???
or
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360
I think that wins actually.
Massive rebranded GT4xx and GTS4xx incoming.
my guess is the 3x0 series becomes rebranded dx10 parts from the last 2 gens, the 4x0 series probably signifies the dx11 difference.
Hopefully that name means performance and not price. GASP!
@Ridgecity
Actually I kinda hope it does mean price...the last time they kicked out their next-gen GPUs (GTX 280) it was $650...
Can't wait to see these! I wish workstations would put these in their machines instead of the 880M or 1800M. This would be great in the HP Elitebook 8540w. One can wish...
@think before you react
I think you need to pay more attention to your name. You're wishing for a product to already be placed in things yet we don't know any specs on the product including price, power usage, size or feasibility.
It's sad that AMD has been handed the graphic cards market (at least here in Europe) on a silver platter but failed to take it because they can't deliver a reasonable amount of cards since months.
@Cence Hit the pipe much today? amd's kicking ass with new their cards/ line up not only with massive speed improvements but with much better heat management mainly due to the fact that there pulling much less power at idle and full stress than any other cards out there
@jitters333
Did you even read his post before commenting ????
He was expressing concern at ATI's limited availability of the cards, not their performance. Pixies and Fairies are more common than AMD/ATI's high end cards in Europe (so I hear).
@Aeon74 should've also mentioned in my post that seven cards really isn't anything to turn your nose up to 4860, 5670, 5750, 5770, 5850, 5870, and 5970 with the 5450 and 5570 coming, and more of what I guess i ment in my fist post was even if all they had was JUST two cards out like the 5750 and 5870 I would still consider that a decent lineup considering there overall improvements as quality will always triumph over quantity
@Aeon74
Correct.
Since about 4 months you can't buy any graphics card in the higher mid-end to high-end sector for a reasonable price. The 5850 for example costs around 400-420$ here if you can't bear to wait any more.
Since months AMD is basically the one and only company on the graphics card market and had no competition at all (unless you wanted to buy the more expensive and much slower remaining stock of NVIDIA 2xx cards). They had the chance to easily crush NVIDIA or at least gain the leading role but they didn't.
@Cence
you can find (well I can) a 5850 for 290-310 on the internet fairly easily plus whatever shipping...
@Cence
You can't really fault AMD when they're not actually making the chips. The fault lies with TMSC.
*their new
What a crap site to 'hang out' on...
Blah, demos, blah, names...In-game benchmarks are the only thing that matters.
Just release it already! I'm waiting to buy a new PC to see if this is really going to be that much better than the ATI cards.
The GTX100 series i believe were for Macs, so maybe the 300's will be too?
@Ioncloud9 Probably, albeit priced at a premium just for a sticker that says mac certified.
There was already an article that said nVidia was rebranding 200 series products to 300 series for OEM use. Following this means that the 400 series will also have a 500 series OEM spec.
I'm looking forward to the game benchmarks comparing it with everything cranked up vs. the 5870. It would be nice to have lower prices and more availability of some high end cards. The vapor x quiet version of the 5870 has been sold out for many months.
I should have said - I want CRYSIS and FEAR3(not released yet) and other games that can beat down a video card tested.
