We suppose we should be excited that Canada's version of the LG
GW620 Eve is getting any major update at all, but still: what the heck? LG Canada has communicated via its official Twitter account this week that Rogers' version of the phone -- its second QWERTY-equipped Android set after the
Dream -- would be getting an update to Android 1.6 (known to the bakers in the room as Donut, of course) this Spring. What's crazier, it apparently won't be an over-the-air boost since they're saying it'll be available from both LG's and Rogers' sites. That's not a huge deal, but seriously guys, why 1.6? If it were to drop
today it'd feel old -- and by Spring, when HTC, Motorola, and likely Samsung all have 2.1 updates at the ready, this is just going to look a little silly, isn't it?
Am I the "Chosen One"?
@TheGM
Well, yes and no.
Maybe 1.6 will be "good enough" for the non power user. But yeah, it's a little strange to not be running the same version as other Android phones that are available.
Rogers, I guess I'll wait 4 months till Wave wirless or Dave network is up, and I'll get a freakin Google Nexus with 2.0.
As a Canuck, I'm really tired of getting old tech. LG and Rogers can suck it.
@alexz
I'm with you on Rogers. Nevermind that Canadians are in indentured servitude to their carrier with little chance to change. I've been stuck with Telus for a while (with out paying upwards of $300 to break a contract). Oh Well, Milestone for me. Apparently in 2 weeks.
Good news for us hackers :D
1.6 has a minimum kernel requirement of 2.6.29 so should be easier to get 2.0 running on it that the current version of the kernel.
