T-Mobile's BlackBerry Curve 8900 rides off into the sunset

[Thanks, Eric]

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
The 8900 is better than the 8520, keeping up with RIM as getting confusing as HTC
The end of an era, to be sure. But I'm sure it will be replaced with an equally classy, higher spec'd BB.
On another note: Chris, when are you guys planning on opening the comments again for the main page? While I suppose I understand the reasoning behind the shutdown (to the slightest degree), I think you could achieve a more desired effect by simply modding the comments section differently.
Instead of shutting it down completely, just delete individual comments and/or ban certain users. I realize nearly the entire Engadget writing staff does actually look at the comments section, is affected by it, and occasionally responds to legitimate, as well as wayward, comments (which is great and makes us feel more connected and engaged). But this whole comment system shutdown smacks of a control problem, and seems like a move that would be extremely criticized by Engadget were another large tech blog to do the same. Ya feel?
@Mr Oos You're on the right track; rest assured we've been using this little breather to make improvements. Stay tuned.
@Chris Ziegler As a commenter I know my opinion may be biased, but I personally think the site is better with comments. I agree the mood recently has been uncomfertable to say the least. but, that past 2 weeks not withstanding comments tend to add more substance to already interesting posts. I've done my part to try to turn trolls and talk sense in to the bad seeds as i see most commenters doing, but, it feels as though we are all being punished for the crimes of a select few.
Those are my thoughts and whether or not you head them, I really apriciate the oppurtinity to say them.
Thanks

@Edobe head=heed and you can figure out the rest of those spelling errors.
@Chris Ziegler
I'd expect nothing less. Cheers.
ps - did you guys ever get a Nexus One Dock in the office? Mine arrived today, and while I definitely like the way it looks and functions, I'm pretty disappointed with how the N1 actually sits in it. The slightest bump and it comes sliding right out and onto whatever desk/nighstand surface I have it on. So much for keeping the phone scratch-free. It needs a bigger front 'lip' to hold it in place. For $50, I expect a better design.
I'm not sure the reasons for some of T-Mobile's decisions.
I can understand why they felt like discontinuing the Curve 8320, but the 8900 is the only high-end Curve in their line up. Not to mention it's the only Curve that offers a 3.2 Megapixel Camera along with higher resolution and GPS mixed with Wi-Fi.
As opposed to the Curve 8520, it's only advantage over the 8900 is it's new and improved optical trackpad.
Funny because I've noticed T-Mobile's line up is getting shorter and shorter with only about 6 short pages of phones.
wow i was scrolling through engadget until i hit this page. and i saw comments?! i thought they were disabled but apparently not anymore.
@iRawr
guess again, friend. check the main site.
Does this imply that T-Mo is heading more Android rather than BlackBerry, or are they going to beef up their BlackBerry line?
Also, @Engadget I think we've learned our lessons
Maybe a sign of the 8910 comming?
T-mobile might not need blackberry/rim like they use to. Nexus One, HD2, etc. If they can deliver on the coverage and 21Mbps then I might go back.
I guess it is all up to personal taste. While I'm not a loyal Blackberry user i have had my fair share of blackberries.I had the 7XXX series for Nextel, The 8310 for T-Mobile, the 8520, my pal has the 8900 i didn't like it. The optical track pad is awesome. And now the 9700 :-)
Regardless this year T-Mobile is going all out upgraded network, Nexus one is out HD2 on the way and many more great phones. So many phones so little $$ in my pocket (thats what i get for being a gamer)
They're obviously getting ready to launch the 8910... it's been confirmed to be coming stateside, not just for china....
basically they are eliminating the trackball 8900 for a trackpad one...
Personally I think it's good if RIM decides to narrow down their selection of phones... This would make their products more centralized and would be easier for buyers to decide which phone to buy and easier for developers to program applications. Moreover there won't be as many updates as far as hardware goes and this will give RIM a chance to polish their OS.
Holy crap, my wife got this phone days ago, and just traded it in for the 9700! Maybe that was a pretty good idea, for more than one reason.
