@Stratification This is a catalog issue, no different than if the songs were pulled from iTunes or Amazon. This is not a debate on 'own vs subscribe' it's just about some labels pulling music
@Stratification how does ten tracks a month sound... thats 1.50 per song plus unlimited downloads of just about anything you want as icing on the cake.
@(Unverified) Right, and if you bought it on the Zune marketplace you'd still have it too. Ditto if you used one of your 10 free songs per month on it.
That's my point :| I was using iTunes as a reference. Renting or subscription based music models are lame. I think they have proven themselves useless, except to a small select group, it's a niche really. Which could be the reason they are losing artists, (no money being made) just a thought.
@(Unverified) No offense, but I think you missed what Marcus was saying. If either a purchase-based OR subscription-based service pulled music, the same two things would generally occur:
-those who had downloaded music already would still have it
-those who had not would not be able to get it.
It's really not that much different at all. Zune does not take your songs away from you if you already have them downloaded, I'm pretty sure. I don't know, someone correct me on that if I'm wrong.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
So, subscription content shoots itself in the foot again. I'm old fashioned I like to have something to show for money spent on music.

@burnblue
I would disagree, because if a song I bought 2 months ago suddenly dissappears out of iTunes, I would still have it. :\

@(Unverified) You still have it with Zune as well... you just can't sync it to a device. Playback from your computer is fine though.

You DO realize that if you do not like the Zune Pass you can also pay for each song individually a la iTunes right?
Not to mention that most songs you purchase from the marketplace are DRM free MP3s, and you have 10 included with the Zune Pass.
