Motorola Milestone looks set for February 18 launch on Telus; AT&Ters, get your unlocking pants on
Telus hasn't yet committed to a date for the release of its mighty Milestone, but no sweat -- Best Buy's happy to commit on their behalf, pegging February 18 as the date that Canadians will have access to their most powerful subsidized Android set yet. That's really awesome, don't get us wrong -- but the other side of this win-win is that it'll be the first time that a Milestone has been available with 850 / 1900MHz 3G, meaning this thing could become a boon for anyone willing to whisk a few across the border, assuming it's not a nightmare to unlock (we doubt it will be). So yes, it's true, if you really want to wait to get your Android-powered Motorola on through AT&T proper, you can hold out for the Backflip, but considering that the Milestone's a more juicily-spec'd piece to start, you might just want to swing this way -- assuming you've got a penchant for hacking and smuggling, of course.

@nightalon Just buy it there, buy an unlock code while you're there pop in an AT&T SIM card before you leave and place the phone in your pocket.
Once you get to the border you'll have it on you rather than in a box and they probably won't question you about it.
Even if the border inspector knows a bit about phones he would think it's a Droid and just let you be on your way.
it says Motorolla in the bottom
I don't think that constitutes smuggling if you buy a phone and bring it back with you.
oooo, this is interesting. If its soon I might have to pick one up till they announce the new jPhone. That way I can decide if I want to renew my contract or just stick with M2M.
I really would like for that Walmart wireless page to come real with the N1 supporting all 4 major carriers voice and data. That would be a hot selling phone for that reason and the phone I would have!
Oh hell yes. I'm getting one of these. That's it. It's happening.
@Joshua Topolsky
I second that notion. Perfect solution for me. I've been trying to figure out who to switch to from bell when my contract is up. This just answered my question as I also have an at&t account, as well, for when I'm in the states. Perfect? Or what? *does a little dance*
@logan
I'm so certain about it, I might just go ahead and do it before the bell contract is up because it's going to be bugging me so much until then.
Ooooh, I so want. But must resist.... grrr. I should wait to see if there's any chance that the so called Nexus Two (*crossing fingers for keyboard*) will be released by summer.
Anyone know if the HTC Hero on Telus has any funny business going on with the Android OS? Rogers and their branded Android phones are a gong show.
Will this work with AT&T's 3g network?
@Geeztommy See title of blog post.
@dotster Well I know that it'll work under their cellular network if it's unlocked, but I was wondering If the 3g would definetly work or if it would be like the nexus one and only work on AT&T's edge
