Apple Store down globally, let the speculation begin (updated)
Sometimes it's nothing, but often, especially when it's a Tuesday and we're sitting on a stack of overdue rumors, an Apple Store outage is a tell that new products are due. Especially when the store goes down on a global basis as it has just now. So take a moment to reflect on the latest rumors and chime in with your predictions in the comments. Our guess? Refreshed MacBook Pros... or iPonies, either or. Then check back at 08:30 ET (as is the norm) to see who got it right.
Update: 64-bit Aperture 3 with faces and places tagging announced. Store's back up. Even after the NVIDIA Optimus announcement we're still left waiting for those elusive Core i5 and Core i7 MacBook Pros.

Where can I acquire one of these iPonies you speak of?
@CJisohsocool
From the iStable Store
@CJisohsocool
They're in the 4.0 beta. Wheeeeeee! c:
@CJisohsocool
Why the long iFace?
@dingledow you must be mistaken with the WaveFace thing :-)
@CJisohsocool
Will this ever End. Extremly stupid comments ?
go to: www.engadget.com/exclude/apple
It's up don't see much new
@SmokemeaKipper
Seriously? Aperture? That's it?
Not impressed :-(
I thought the biggest let down was the iPad. Nope, it was today.
app store is back ... 3 hours downtime to add aperture 3 ?? absolutely rubbish
@CJisohsocool Wait, they're finally coming out with iPonies? Why haven't I heard about this Apple rumor on Engadget before now?!?
@CJisohsocool lol, On January a brochure suggests that the macbook pro running on i5-i7 cores is for real. Details: http://bit.ly/macbook-pro-core-i5-details
Updates: Apple is back now, and its crimson red for valentines!
@Sneakz
"I thought the biggest let down was the iPad. Nope, it was today."
That's just it, they are trying to make people forget how badly they messed up with the iPad.
Man, and I was all excited at the prospect of a MacBook refresh. I've been holding out for almost a year for a MacBook Pro BluRay option. No BRD, no purchase :-(
@Veraxus Isnt it just BD? And if the MBP ever gets BD i will be very surprised...
@CJisohsocool
this is very very interesting. other site will say something like "sorry for the inconvenient" instead of "please notify your favorite tech blog".
im nowwhere near a apple fan but this is a good idea
@Sneakz
haha ya, I was excited to see new macbook pros today
@Two Black Eyes
I don't believe they are trying to impress YOU.
@iCello I sadly agree. I really think Mr. Jobs needs to rethink this whole "bag of hurt" idea. The only thing it is hurting is us consumers. I would love a BD on my Macbook Pro.
@asif316
haha. Absolutely agree.
@CJisohsocool
They are switching from WebObjects to ASP and SQL.
(nah, you'd have to be more that 40 to get that one)
iCrack, it's highly adictive!
@Heysoos
I think we have something that will bring the user experience to a whole new level...
@tonyunreal beautifully revolutionizing the industry in a magically game changing way.
@Ducman69 we call it iCrack, and its starting at $499 a kilo
@Heysoos
Aperture 3 released. Won't change the trend though:
Among photographic pros using the Mac,
•In 2007 Lightroom was nearly twice as popular as Aperture
•In 2008 it was nearly three times as popular
•In 2009 it's approaching four times as popular
On the Mac platform only:
2007 2008 2009
Lightroom 26.6% 40.4% 44.4%
Aperture 14.3% 14.6% 12.5%
Copied and pasted from http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2009/09/lightroom_vs_aperture_09.html
@vvnraman
From those numbers I'd say Adobe are converting Photoshop customers to also use Lightroom.
But then Apple's little 12% share isn't really changing the world either.
@bigdonny
Dude, the pricepoint is revolutionary.
@vvnraman
Lightroom was given away at the start in beta form. Some of those users were Aperture users, but almost ALL of them were Photoshop users. Nothing beats Photoshop. Add those numbers in and it looks a bit different.
That being said, Adobe owns both so they are laughing all the way to the bank.
Aperture is just the next logical step for those who want more than iPhoto.
@bigdonny : "It's magical and revolutionary"
@Heysoos If it's going to be "magical" then he could only be talking about the mushrooms
I know it's a stretch, but I'm hoping for a new version of Aperture. We got a Final Cut Studio update last year; a man can dream.
But new MacBook Pro's should be a nice surprise. Been meaning to replace this 1st generation Unibody for quite some time now.
@Flamov iWork '10? Steve had some nifty new animations in his iPad Keynote...
@Flamov
It could be an iphone related update the UK store web address for the store reads: http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2NTQ

@Flamov Lucky you.

@Flamov
http://www.apple.com/aperture/ Here you go!
@Flamov
Talk about being bang on the money! Why were you not an analyst leading up to the iPad release? we may have had a more accurate picture of what was to come!
@Flamov nailed it!
@Rhinehart Lucky me indeed!
@TheNightPhoenix Thanks! You nearly made me squeal in the middle of my lecture.
@Tes I still can't believe that I was 'right'. Quite shocking!
@KEStay Woo!
@Flamov
Hey, good guess man!
Now, can someone explain to me why the site has to go down when Apple puts something new on it? I guess this is the Paris Hilton school of business, where you demand attention by having an unhelpful attitude. Amazon puts up the entire volume of the Apple store, up and down, every 4 hours. Apple shuts the whole store down, making the customer experience worse for a lot of people, just to make sure we all notice they did this?
Or was it just a technical problem? Seems like this happens quite a lot.
If their products don't attract people on their own, without stunts, I kinda resent their success.
@(Unverified) I have no doubt it's to draw attention; and it works, every time. In terms of databases and websites in general, adding a new product shouldn't affect anything in terms of user experience. Hell, if you were refreshing the store over and over again you might just catch a 404 but even that's rare.
PLZ New macbook pros!
New Macbook Pro! No doubt!
Yes, but will Apple finally realize that people who want a powerful, PORTABLE computer buy the 13-incher, and stop screwing those customers over with no ExpressCard port and the mandatory idiotic glossy screen?
@Zodiac
who uses expressPorts? Cant really remember last time I saw a laptop have one let along someone using one!
@elmo61
Professionals do. I need the express port in my 17" to connect to my RAID array.
@elmo61 I use one! a 48GB card that houses snow leopard and my applications. sort of like a poor man's SSD. The computer is snappy as hell and I get to keep my 500gb internal HD.
Aperture 3 looks wonderful. currently downloading the trial to see how it compares to Aperture 2.
