Apple Store down globally, let the speculation begin (updated)
Sometimes it's nothing, but often, especially when it's a Tuesday and we're sitting on a stack of overdue rumors, an Apple Store outage is a tell that new products are due. Especially when the store goes down on a global basis as it has just now. So take a moment to reflect on the latest rumors and chime in with your predictions in the comments. Our guess? Refreshed MacBook Pros... or iPonies, either or. Then check back at 08:30 ET (as is the norm) to see who got it right.
Update: 64-bit Aperture 3 with faces and places tagging announced. Store's back up. Even after the NVIDIA Optimus announcement we're still left waiting for those elusive Core i5 and Core i7 MacBook Pros.

@zelannii I never thought of an i3 Mini that would be sick. I would love that to take the place of my dual core 2.0 Mini that resides next to my Flatscreen.
APPLE STORE UK STIIIILL DOWN
something's going on in the UK for once!(OR probably not)!!
@td02msn
And back up... with no difference!! Back to work!
does anyone know if the imac already had an i5 quad core? because if it didn't before, it does now.
@mikehunt Yeah, that happened late last year.
@mikehunt Uh the new 21", and 27" models got them in their last refresh as well as the i7 very old news indeed!
Why is it that everyone just accepts that Apple closes it's store every time they have to make even a minor tweak to their product line? Can you imagine if everyone did that... Sorry folks WalMart is closing... Kool-Aid just came out with a new flavor and we're gonna close down the entire frickin store while we stock the shelves with a couple of cases of the new product... we'll be back soon though.
I guess maybe it's a lack of multitasking capabilities... they can't update the store AND sell products at the same time.
@AdmanOK It isn't that hard to understand. Apple is sheek, its popular in pop culture, it has an obsessive user base, and they have a pretty good marketing department. Throw all those things together and you have some pretty awesome PR when you pull stunts like this. You really can't buy that kind of hype.
That being said, Aperture 3? That's it? WTF!
@AdmanOK They don't need to take down the store to add products, it is merely a marketing gimmick, and one that is getting old and tired at that. Doing it for something as silly as Aperture is coming awfully close to crying wolf.
I think Apple needs to learn to save the hype for hype-worthy products, otherwise folks are goign to start tuning out whent he store closes.
@RandomGuy
yea whats the worst that could happen.. i mean, someone orders a Macbook and then 2 minutes later a better model with a lower price is 'released'... who wouldn't like that??

oh... I get it...

Lol, there was an update after all, seems they changed the front page image.
Amazing that Apple still doesn't have current generation processors in its laptops at this point.
Then again, with a rabid fan base that will defend every Apple product and decision as superior no matter what, and keep throwing money at them even when obviously a full generation old, why should they? As long as Apple can keep soaking the people who love them by delivering cheap, old CPUs, GPUS, and chipsets but charging more than their competitors charge for bleeding edge stuff, why on earth would they spend the extra money to give folks the good stuff? That would be just plain bad business.
@JimInSF It seems you don't know those CPUs were released by Intel last month and all the laptops with it were just announced, not available yet! But then, why would you know that, you just want to bash Apple stuff right?
@JimInSF
Nah mate. I've got a 2008 unibody MB Pro but I want more power so I can play Crysis etc at full settings. If Apple don't delivery by the end of the month I'll just get the Alienware M11X seeing as it's much more powerful !! lol
Apple are beginning to quite frankly take the p***....
Apple is killing me and the wait continues.
The only people who go crazy when the Apple store is down is tech geeks like us. There's no doubt it helps to stir up the hype, even if it is something minor.
That being said, the Aperture update looks pretty cool, and there are some interesting videos from photographers that just went up.
New MBP in aperture 3 movies!!!
This is such a bag of hurt
I feel bad for Sony. Vaios are superior machines to Macs in every way, but Macs are brilliantly marketed products. Good for Apple
No Mac can touch the Vaio Z, Vaio X and even the Vaio L series desktops...of course just my humble opinion.
Amazingly Apple's stock is worth MUCH more than Sony + Dell + Nintendo + Panasonic COMBINED!!!!!! the last time I checked.
@jaffreywali
sad truth about macs, they are "cool" to have. That is why 99% of people buy them
the other 1% actually need them.
Apple has sex appeal, and most people buying one don't even know what DDr3 is.
@jaffreywali
You're right. Anyone with the ability to compare statistics would know there are quite a few computers out there superior to the Mac. You would also notice their are better products for MP3 players and phones. I prefer Sony above any laptop and yes it's much more powerful than the Mac. Apple is just good at advertising... kind of like a politician. Say as little as possible and make people want what you're selling without telling them what it is. Then make them believe that buying your product is the best thing they could do in their life.
@protozoider You all forget how much value native (and supported) OS X is for some. Myself included. I work on a quad-Xeon Workstation running Vista and would trade it in a heartbeat for an IMac of lesser power with half the RAM and HD speed. Don't mention W7, IT hates me.
There seems to be a compability issue with older versions of iPhoto.
I got iLife'08 and got the following message, when i tried to import my iPhoto libary while giving the trail version a try: http://grab.by/2iFk
I don't think I'm willing to på for both iLife' 09 and Aperture or neither willing to import my entire libary by hand.
Is getting tired of this. I love my MacBook and my iPhone used to be great two years ago but it's getting boring. Other phones are getting better and we all wait for some kind of hope. What do we get ? The Ipad ????? It's cool yeah but not what were after. Come on Apple save us and yourselfs. Were getting board.
@Si5084 Apple will announce the new iPhone and 4.0 after the iPad starts shipping to drum up even more business. I am expecting a new hardware design mimicking the iPad (Alum finish, flat back, etc.). They know people expect it and will create a fervor for it, so why release before it's ready? It's the Apple magic.
If apple did these 3 things i guarantee they could hold 40% of the market in 10 years easy.
1. Start getting ports of games to open GL, start pressing the issue, the more Mac looks like a viable gaming platform, the more people you draw. (trust me im one of those people, only reason ill go over, is the crossover games application, I can at least game a little)
2. Drop your freaking prices (not much, just so your almost competitive
3. Hurry up and throw in hardware that hasn't been outdated since 2007 and 08
since when do you take a website offline to update it??? fair enough to create buzz but just to add something minor... surely they can update it without taking it down
Ill have to try out Aperture 3 in the Apple store to see if its worth the upgrade.
Maybe they're like, oh i dont know... Putting an iTamp-- oops, i mean iPad button on the home page? Putting it in the store? We can only hope for Core i Macbooks. I just don't think it's likely to happen without another keynote thingus.
I have this grand feeling Apple is planning a significant roadmap of releases to build on one-another. The iPhone (and now iPad) is a 'gateway' device for many people to experience the "Kool-Aid" as it may be. With the new iPad coming everyone is watching, so as time get's closer they will incremnetally release new product updates, starting with the new iPhone 4G and 4.0 Software (once iPad starts shipping), followed by the Macbook Pro refresh. I think they will follow the iPhone release with a line of touch-sensitive products, def a laptop style followed by a desktop (or a multi-touch monitor) and a add touch sensitivity controls and multi-touch to OS X. It's going to be a big year for Apple (they'd better do a lot to top themselves at that stock price).
@dizzle66 *raises my glass* I second that
@dizzle66
bro, the next "new" thing for apple is going to be the MBP refresh. Guaranteed the iphone 4g wont come before that, because that would be this summer, and by that point, they wont have had any MBP sales for 6 months.
They also aren't going to release a whole slew of random touch products, its not acer or nokia over there.
@rmbrown09 Dunno man, the way their slanging multi-touch, the fact that 90% a lot of commenters boo'd the iPad, the 22" iMac Touch rumors, all that adds up to what I wrote above. You could very well be right on the MBP release, that segment is pretty different than the iPhone crowd (demographic-wise that is. I know most MBP users have or want an iPhone, IMHO). It's just my guess anyway, and every year is a big year for Apple.
Does the IPAD have IFLASH or is it NO FLASH
APPLE COME ON
get your stuff together and and put these out already.
even if you matched the envy 15 specs except for an arrandale i7 over clarksfield I would be thrilled.
I ordered an envy 15, and then cancelled 3 days later just because i knew i would beat myself up later.
BUT COME ON.
=]
hmmm, kinda dissapointing I was expecting a new mac book pro just like everyone else hahah i'm not an apple fan but I do like seeing the new hardware coming from apple, and the fanboi comments that fallow haha
