Samsung's first Bada phone with Super AMOLED to be announced on February 14th? Sure.
By now you're undoubtedly aware than Samsung has a new smartphone OS (Bada) and touchscreen technology (Super AMOLED) in the works. In this case, putting 2 and 2 together yields 14, a number that matches Samsung's February 14th press event at Mobile World Congress. How so? Well, first of all, Sammy is promoting the Samsung Unpacked teaser page from its Bada site. The ocean-themed teaser ("bada" means "ocean" in Korean) says, "on 2.14 a new mobile from Samsung is born. See it first in Barcelona." A quick look at the teaser site's source reveals the keywords "Bada," "smartphone," and "AMOLED." In other words, you can bet that Samsung will be unveiling a 3.3-inch, 800 x 480 pixel Super AMOLED (already rumored for a next week reveal) touchscreen Bada phone on February 14th.
P.S. The image above comes courtesy of GSM Arena. While the site won't say what the device is on the left it's clearly running Samsung's Bada UI and is likely AMOLED judging by those deep blacks. The display is also slightly smaller than the iPhone 3G's 3.5-inch display. Gee... what could it be?

Give me a mobile OS with the ease of use of the iPhone, multitasking like webOS, with the openness of Android and I'm set! Oh and and the screen real estate such as found on many of the higher end new HTC models such as the hd2, and supersonic!
@XChrisX
True that. But hd2 is too humongous lol
@XChrisX
Id rather take the opennessof Maemo, while Android sure is Linux based its still rather closed compared to Maemo.
@tirim4
Indeed. For an OS with so many open-source components, Android is surprisingly closed-off. Even WinMo, despite being closed-source, is far more developer-friendly than Android.
Of course, nothing beats Maemo.
@XChrisX Agreed on the maemo but you get the point.
AMOLED is so gorgeous.
Want. I may finally be getting my new phone :D
My SGH-X507 is getting tired :P
AMOLED is great, but Samsung isn't.
Don't buy their crappy phones, the software and support is terrible!!
@DoctarPeppar
Super AMOLED + HTC HD2 = Wet Pants
@weeman
Are you seriously comparing Samsung's software and support to HTC's?
Let's take a vote --
How many people on Engadget prefer Samsung's TouchWizz (ROFL!) Software to HTC's SenseUI? Anyone? Hello?
Hardware is one thing...but most people do NOT care about hardware. They care about software and support -- look at how many iPhone users there are...that says it _all_ right there...and Samsung's software and support is straight rubbish (As they would say in the UK). Compare any one of Samsung's Android handsets to HTC's, even HTC's older ones...there is no contest, and I think almost everyone would agree.
That picture shows how the iPhone 3Gs' screen is significantly outdated. Same screen and resolution as the 2G from 2007. Look at the difference!
@Accidental
Although people do not hold their phones at 20 degrees (making the picture a bit exaggerated) the difference between AMOLED and LCD is tremendous. I really hope that Apple upgrades to AMOLED given how great pictures and videos look on it.
on Valentine's Day? may be all pink Phone?
Do they have a Microsoft search app for their OS? I'm sure everyone would want the Bada Bing!
The screen is pretty but an amazing operating system is what will make it sell. Eye candy is good for a second look but I won't take it home unless it rocks.
would've been better had the screen been 3.8 inches, 3.3 is a bit too small for 2010 standards
IMO, and experience, samsung costomer service and product support are crap. I promised them I would slag their name for years for walking away from my 56", 13 month old tv. One month over the factory warrenty, they couldn't tell me where to get it fixed or even give me a deal on a new tv. Costomer loyalty is hard to gain, and easy to lose. On to the next one.
@Irondog
Agreed. Don't buy a Samsung handset, you'll never get FW upgrades or bug fixes. Unless they change that any time soon, forget it. HTC and other companies are world class when it comes to customer support. Samsung is mostly a dumbphone manufacturer, where the support and development process finishes with the writing of the phone's manual. There are no bugs to be fixed because the phones are cheap and offer very little features. IMHO if Samsung wants to keep pushing smartphones and wants to compete with HTC and Apple, they will need to offer better support, OTA firmware updates, faster bug fixes, and most standardization across handset families. I won't get into the deatils about the last point, but if you've ever tried to write an APP for a Samsung WM or Android handset you would be disgusted at the code variability between similar classes of devices.
The Omnia 2 and Omnia Pro don't even use the same accelerometer values lmfao.
Those "deep blacks" don't mean squat when you try viewing in broad daylight. The iPhone display was show so far off of a normal viewing angle that it looks awful, in the comparison shot. Fact is, the iphone display is readable OUTSIDE IN DAYLIGHT!!
@dave1812 Hogwash. Have you even seen an OLED in daylight? The Zune's OLED is very visible outside in daylight. It's only when the sun is reflecting from the screen is it not very visible (and only at direct to close-to-direct angles from the sun)
@dave1812 he net has blown AMOLED poor performance in sunlight WAYYYYY out of proportion. I have two AMOLED devices and have not once had an issue seeing the screen. In some cases the screen is clearer/brighter in daylight due to non-reflective materials.
Here's a comparison of TFT LCD vs. AMOLED in various environments incl sunlight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FICAHsE_enE
I sincerely hope that the next iPhone has a 4.3 inch or larger screen. 3.5 inches isn't what it used to be. Samsung, get cracking!
Wow, that screen is seriously sexy.
im a little surprised apple fans haven't commented yet on how much they prefer the blue tinted screen anyway..
screen looks pretty... in the dark. How about in direct sunlight?
Doctor,
why do you have a problem with Samsung? As far as I know, their phones are super high-quality.
I want that bada-ss Super AMOLED screen on my next phone...
yeah, and ONly Samsung is the one that gives their technology and manufacturing capability to Apple, HTC, Microsoft Etc.
What does Samsung get in return, bunch of idiot consumers who are happley consuming their state of their art devices while Samsung gets completely ignored. Getting paid what? 23 dollars per item?? that's chump change compared to what phone manufacturers are charging for these devices.
I gotta say, that is a pretty sexy screen. There is all the negative talk about OLED and stuff, I don't know what is true and what isn't. I'd imagine Apple will pick up the OLED screens at some point, and by looking at this picture, I hope it is soon. Jealous..
