Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 exhaustively previewed, screenshotted to death
While we patiently wait for the X10 to make its way into retail channels (or, you know, give up and buy something else instead), mobile-review's Eldar Murtazin has come through once again with one of his world-famous eleventy billion page previews rife with thousands of screenshots, which should take you long enough to skim through so that the phone's available by the time you're done. Thing is, you may not want it anymore: Eldar's concerned by the phone's cheap plastic shell, which is particularly alarming in light of the direction competitors are going, and the screen could apparently be better. Add in the fact that it'll be launching with Android 1.6 and there's no question Sony Ericsson's first Android effort is going to face an uphill battle -- let's just hope they learn from the complaints and get an updated Android build rolled out on the double.

Go on and slip me two X10 bars I'm ready to get fool
Buy two, pair with bluetooth... use duct tape.
SE will bring it to market in april-may. At least,they say so. The phone is still buggy, displays only 65000 colors and takes pictures with droid quality. Kill those SE programmers, aino & satio both were epic fails. Even if this pr-phone will be there in april it wont make the wow-factor. SE will take the same way as siemens.x10 eill cost around 750$.thats TOO much.
It's too late, I've got HTC...SE,it's too late...
IMO this is the best phone currently on the market.
for starters, it can MULTITASK at 1GHZ!
but agreed about the ROM, really not ok to be on 1.6 at this point.
Mark.
@fredphoesh
but it's not on the market... and what about the HD2 and the Nexus One?
Here's the REAL problem. They're accustomed to taking 2 years to develop a product, under the assumption that 8mp, 1ghz, and Android 1.6 will all be desirable when they release it, making the $800 price tag sensible. With a plastic backing, old OS, commonplace CPU, an extraordinary price isn't something I'm seeking to pay.
Screenshotted?
Xperia X10 > iPhone 3GS???
@kenny goo
NOT!! Apple makes sure no device is left behind in firmware. Hardware no one can catch you up on.
I don't understand why this phone has a following... it is in almost every way comparable to a nexus one and will likely cost several hundred dollars more. It won't be current as quickly as the nexus one and it has less memory...
@nickyP
You must keep in mind that people like aesthetics to be good on their phones too, and I'm hoping you agree that this does look much more slick than the Google phone. If it's wasn't for its looks, I probably would have been on the hunt to get the Nexus one, as soon as it was announced.
The UI looks less appealing than that preview video which came out a few months back.
Xperia X10: Deja-vu, only with Android.
1.6? How OLD is this phone? You're doing something wrong.
can someone explain what it is about selling mobile phones that SE does NOT get??!!?
here are a few simple rules for you to follow SE:
0) LISTEN to your customers
1) NEVER announce more than 2 months before release date
2) STOP trying to invent new memory sticks, they all suck
3) release a mobile with TODAYS software, not LAST YEARS
4) NEVER ever try to re-introduce a display port connector
5) pick a form factor and stick with it, then make it better each year. out of the last 300 phones u have released, NONE are around today. take a hint
Won't replace my N900 anytime soon but I'd love to see Sony's next e-book reader done in that design style.
As for Android 1.6: I thought Archos are the only ones who still use that antique?
Sorry SE, I was waiting, waiting for a long time for the X10. Now it's late, and it's out of date. I've got a Nexus One now, it's slick, fast and has already had an OTA update released to it.
Very nice phone, Just a few questions though.
1. is the battery cover made of metal? Because I will want to polish the phone like I did my Xperia X1i.
http://blog.whitesites.com/Sony-Xperia-X1i-hand-polished-chrome-battery-cover__633838209852009149_blog.htm
2. Does the phone support HSDPA on USA AT&T
3. Does it have any native app for tethering
4. Does it have any remote desktop application? ( I have a colocated server )
5. Is the Flash Xeon or LED ( which makes a better flash light than a flash )
@blogwhitesitescom
Blimey. I know Intel Xeons run hot; but to use one as a flash?
Where's the AT&T version of X10? Not coming?
@Inspector Gadget80
Yes it is coming; http://www.x10android.com/xperia-x10-%E2%80%9Cdefinitely%E2%80%9D-heading-to-att
I'm so disappointed. This phone was the hottest most anticipated phone what feels like 2 years ago. Now here we are, still no phone from Sony. They should just pack up and go home. Shut down their offices, sell the SE brand to Motorola. By the time this thing hits a carrier the next best thing in 4G flavor will be out.
Oh and, I love the look of these phones with custom skins but I'd much rather NOT have them! This only contributes to delays of rolling out the next best version of Android. Every time Google updates Android, the manufacturer (SE, HTC, etc) have to update their proprietary software.
Just leave it stock Android and maybe put your "skins" in the market place or let us customize our phones on our own.
It will be worth the price. http://www.x10android.com
